Rodney, You are fantastic ❤ Greetings from the organ of Castle Church of Szolnok, from Hungary 🇹🇯

It plays like a Pipe Organ but the sound falls in between an Accordion and a Pipe Organ. It's a very special sound that makes these Organs one of a kind.

How many takes does it normally take you, by the way? Personally I find it quite frustrating that every time I try to record my own performance, I would usually start screwing up in places I thought I did perfectly when the camera wasn't rolling!
@ReedOrgans7 жыл бұрын
It varies a lot, depending on the piece and how well I have prepared it. This one took a number of tries as I kept on crashing, but only when the cameras were rolling... I know what you mean because as soon I get the cameras on, silly things happen in sections of any music where least expect it!

Wonderful as all of your other videos are! I especially like how you didn't take it at such a fast tempo. It sounds better slower where you can hear each phrase. I suspect that playing with all couplers on makes the action pretty stiff?? Wonderful job! Keep them coming!

Well Done Rodney. I love the piece (Can't quite play it yet). Hey, with the octave and then the manual coupler coming towards the end, you are giving really your fingers a work-out. And thanks to your wife for pumping (I usually wait for my wife to be engrossed in a TV program before I go "off to the music room"). (As an aside Amazing this organ is at A=459.3 or something like that - my Estey is 431.7). Well done.

Wonderful! Well videoed except for cutting away from the pedals when they are most active and interesting. Great restoration! Howonderful that you saved it. 2:27 Gethat pedal part better. Many notes barely heard and they are so important. (So many gloss over the notes.) In my lateens I memorized this to play for people who hate organ music. Such a magnificent, complex and joyful work! Oh. I thoughthathis instrument had been motorized.
@JoshuaCaudell7 жыл бұрын
That reed organ is awesome Rodney! Would you ever try playing a tonewheel drawber controlled hammond organ? I would watch that video and share it. Again that was awesome. I also saw the pumping pedals move on its own. My guess is that your wife Lori was pumping the organ via handle pumper for an organ belows pumper? Once more that was awesome!
@ReedOrgans7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, Lori was working the bellows for me, it is tiring after a while with this type of music!
@RockStarOscarStern6342 жыл бұрын
@@ReedOrgans I guess it might seem more appropriate to add an Electric Blower Motor to those types of Reed Organs w/ Bass Pedals.
@bertspeggly44282 жыл бұрын
I see that Lori is pumping the organ at the tempo of the piece. is this good practice or is she just enjoying the music? The organ looks and sounds wonderful, congratulations on bringing it back to life.
@ReedOrgans2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The rhythm of the pumping is probably more of a coincidence. She watches the bellows gage to be sure it is at a constant level, although at certain times she can accent the notes or increase the volume with careful control of the blow handle.

Who's the ghost pumping the pedals? Noticed them going with the beat. Sometimes I pump with the beat and sometimes not coordinated at all. Edit: in the next video, I see a woman pumping a lever from the side. Speaking of pedals, how does one play a reed organ with pedals that also has pumping pedals? I'd think that a pedal reed organ would need someone else pumping. Thanks. I still have an 1880 Kimball pump organ in the basement that needs complete redoing of the reservoir and feeders.
@ReedOrgans4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is my dear wife providing the wind for this instrument. The timing would be a coincidence, as she is watching the bellows gage and keeping it in a certain range. If playing solo, then one just doesn’t use the bass pedals, and it is then played the same as any other reed organ. It is like the best of both worlds :)

Rodney, could you not hook up an electric motor with some sort of rheostat switch coupled with a pressure gauge for the wind chamber that will speed up and show down the motor to keep a constant pressure? I am probably speaking heresy here but I thought I'd go ahead and ask anyway. 😊
@Spudeaux6 жыл бұрын
I would think it'd only be heresy for the ones that don't have pedal notes. Quite a large number of reed organs have been electrified over the years, but I believe most cases it's just a vacuum motor and bellows are left in place to keep the pressure right.
@RockStarOscarStern6342 жыл бұрын
If you add an Electric Suction motor to this Organ then you could have Lori be your Page turner & stop puller.
@Velostigmat7 жыл бұрын
Way to resurrect an organ! Now is that a concave parallel pedalboard?
@ReedOrgans7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it really classifies as concave, but the tops are, if that makes sense. The pedals are gradually taller at the sides, so the bottom is flat but the extra height at the ends make it concave to the player.

Rodney, please tell me how the video was done, with multiple cameras, software? Thanks
@ReedOrgans7 жыл бұрын
I used one Sony HDR-XR350, and two iPhones. These were then mixed/edited with the audio track (recorded on separate mics) on Studio19. Once all the tracks were in sync I just faded as I saw fit to each camera, sometimes adding a zoom and motion. All fun stuff :)

Rodney Jantzi it was either this or a Berlin single manual... I kinda felt like doing pedal work as well. Do you know ballpark range for location and cost of this instrument?
@materbrospianoorganco-mich27197 жыл бұрын
For me to say a true man with grit would undermine the super human strength required to play this piece...... on a reed organ. Good lord son, you know that tracker and lift coupler fights like no other. Especially since a 3/16th gap on each pedal sticker is needed to keep the pd/gt coupler from ciphering.
@ReedOrgans7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it does take a little more effort than other organs but I don't find it all that bad to play. I think it is just as much work for my wife operating the blow handle on the side :)
@materbrospianoorganco-mich27197 жыл бұрын
Rodney Jantzi amen to that. A good concise application of the body applied to the below is required to translate as much human effect to the voice and reception of music.... as mentioned by D’Celle. Wonderful job all the way around. You just let me know when you get tired of this organ and I would be glad to take it off your hands right away. :-D. I would be much interested in learning how you came across this instrument as that’s half the art of reeding right there. With all the restorations and work I do, I will one day, hopefully, learn how to actually play.
@ReedOrgans7 жыл бұрын
This organ was what our museum group called "The Epic Rescue", retrieved from a damp shed in Ireland, and shipped back to Canada to attempt restoration. It was a gamble as the organ was rotting and pretty well every joint was falling apart where there was once hide glue. The screws were so rusted they were crystallizing oxidization out of the endgrain of the wood. Here is a sample video of before I started taking it apart: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYqmgJd-fMqbkLc
