Sir, Thank you so much. This is THE BEST Minimite 4 video on youtube. Nobody actually shows it being used. Hats of to you sir!

HI, Sean. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. One thing I'd recommend you start doing - if you haven't done so already - is to first measure the viscosity of any finish without any adjusting. That information will provide you with two important bits of information: 1. You'll know which tip set to select, as it is possible there may be one available for your guy that'll enable you to spray without adjusting the viscosity of the finish. Adjusting the viscosity of any finish is the very last resort a finisher should resort to, as it changes the chemistry the manufacturer had engineered into the finish, and because you've adjusted it, it will not respond in the same manner. Point of fact is that many waterborne finishes won't tolerate any more than 10% thinning; and 2. You'll be able to control the amount of thinning to correspond to the known maximum amount of thinning for the finish you're using. You do that by thinning only when needed, and if needed, by adding the thinning medium (water in this case) by small measured amounts and then remeausring the viscosity. As soon as the viscosity falls within the "sprayable" limit for your chosen equipment (including the tip set), stop adding thinner and go to your test panel to set up your gun's adjustments accordingly. I'd be interested in your comments to my suggestions.

Sean, one technique thing for your audience members who haven't added the 3M PPS system to their siphon model spray guns, is to rotate their aircap 90 degrees when spraying vertical surfaces. This will allow them to hold your gun vertically, thereby keeping the fluid level below the bottom of your take-up pipe inside the cup. If they are running anything below half-level on their finish, they'll be sucking air instead of finish. Again, excellent video.

Excellent video, Mr. Bennett; great advice and guidance without the usual rambling babbling found in many videos. I have been debating on whether to get a typical spray gun vs. a gravity, but the 3M pot you use has convinced me to go with the typical since they are easier to handle and less strain on the arm. Very happy I watched this video!!

I enjoyed watching HVLP awesome room stayed clear the whole time while spraying ,I use traditional rig along with HVLP micro sprayer same result very little liquid loss all wet on the surface. Nice set up.

Sean, just so you're aware, PPS stands for "Paint Preparation System". As well, that hard plastic cup is called their HO "High Output" cup, designed specifically for all turbine-based HVLP spray guns which require the cup to be pressurized.

Hi Sean I was wonder what happens to the tube that pressurized the pot. Is this a mod for the pps system?? How does it connect to the new 3m canister? I also noticed no check valve. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
@jeffchandler55204 жыл бұрын
the pps pressure system pressurises around the liner sqeezing the paint liner forcing the paint out of the liner. The paint does not make contact with the air line eliminating the need for a check valve.

Great video Sean. I am about to buy the Fuji Mini Mite 4. Did you buy the turbine separate from the gun? I was thinking of just getting stock gun that comes with Fuji Mini Mite 4. Either regular of gravity fed. Two questions. This will be a low use sprayer for me so do I need to get the 3M cups? (meaning do you do that just for speed of clean up) ... do you have the gravity fed gun?... which is better? I'm buying this unit specifically to spray stix primer and Benjamin Moore advanced on several cabinets. One more question...have you ever sprayed with Floetrol? Is regular water all the same?
@seanbennett52207 жыл бұрын
I bought it as a set with the bottom cup. I use the 3m system for clean up speed. I always use water as my thinner but I'm sure Floetrol would work as well. It atomizes the paint really well with just water. The one other advantage of the pps system is you can spray completely upside down with the gun.

Waterborne products are 125, 200 is everything else. Just learned that myself. www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-PPS-Standard-Lid-Liner-Kit/?N=5002385+3293242006&rt=rud

I can get that same finish with an airless fine finish 210 tip.. can run all day going through all kinds of gallons and not have to cut the paint down either.... Your technique is like super weird too not really a consistent pattern..... Plus where you started it's on the outside where you have to walk around your finish that you just shot a bunch of times... Work from the inside out

I don't know who recommended to you to use a waterbase product on bare wood, it may be ok since it looks like is poplar but to not take a chance I would suggest you use either an oil base primer, lacquer, or shellac primer since wood wont bleed through them, most woods will bleed through water base products
