Peter, what are your final thoughts on the camera after using it? My wife is considering buying the S1 as her first "good" camera for informal photography on our adventures.
@PeterGregg9 жыл бұрын
Michael K After playing with the camera, and also the new SX60, I decided the SX50 was the best image. So even though there is a newer camera both from Canon and from Fuji, I get the better images from the SX50. I still have it and use it. I am quite happy with it even after a couple of years. The others don't match it. The one I would look at for a higher end camera would be the Panasonic FZ1000 super zoom. it doesn't have as long a reach, but you do get a jump up from the SX50 with that camera.

PeterGregg this is exactly what my research have shown. The 50 is still the best. Thanks for confirming this.

Lol! You have an ORIGINAL way of talking about cameras :-) The idea of talking to a camera, as if the camera were a person, is very good and and funny. Thumbs Up!

waiting for a review on the finepix s1. sometimes a camera sounds better on print but I would like to see if it's really better than the sx50.

Fuji Finepix S1 was my first bridge/dslr like camera. I've also owned the SX50. Not a fan of Canon. The S1 blows the SX50 out of the water! Fantastic camera! Using manual settings, images in both day and night are awesome quality! The Fuji Finepix S1 is great for night photography as well as astrophotography with a tripod. Highly recommend!

CdnAngelXO out of the water???? What a ridiculous comment. Guess you love the horribly overcooked and over sharpened jpgs from the fuji. The noisier images and don't forget the fake 1200mm focal range which was measured to only be 1,080mm. Guess you are feeling pretty stupid now for making the comment, don't you? lol
@MsCanadianAngelxo7 жыл бұрын
shaolin95 No, I don't feel stupid at all for my comment. You are entitled to your opinion just as I am. In my opinion, this camera is fantastic. Horribly overcooked and over sharpened jpegs? I didn't have those issues, so I can't speak on that. ISO on the lowest setting, I never had any issues with noise. Noise was only apparent to me at ISO 800 and above, depending on the scene. As far as your statement on the lens being a fake 1200mm focal range which was measured to only be 1080mm. I can't find anything to back up your claim. Care to provide a reliable source to back your information up?

Hey Peter, did you get hold of one of these cameras yet, if so is it as good as you was hoping, and did you do a review on it yet
@PeterGregg10 жыл бұрын
No, Fuji does not seem to like me :) My friend Matt at ArtOfTheImage on KZbin has one right now. He is liking it, but it still is too early to tell. I know the SX50 (Canon) is STILL a camera I love using, so I do not hesitate recommending it at all. I can tell you if I were buying something in that style camera today, I would most likely, very high probability, buy the new Panasonic FZ1000. It does everything good to great, and it also has high video abilities while giving dynamite still pictures too. The autofocus on it is the best of the best in its class - probably at the top. it also has a bigger sensor than either the Canon or the Fuji so the quality right there is above and beyond. I'm just saying a hint for you :)

I too was considering the Fuji S1. But, at 499. 00 plus tax, I don't know. I'm like you. Always thinking I'm missing out on something but I'm actually an amateur and I already have a DSLR, 3 Lenses, tripod, etc. and recently purchased the Sx50 for the zoom. I think I will wait a while until they come out with all the specs of the S1 and WiFi as well. Great videos!

Always enjoy your videos Peter - I have the Sony HX50v which has the 1200mm zoom - Sony makes good IS - although one would think 5 axis should be better but in practice I am not sure if in most cases 3 axis is fine - Now having used the Sony HX50v I have come to the conclusion that 600mm is about as far as one can go clean - as past 600mm there is just atmospheric haze and smog etc - also it is very hard to be steady past 600mm even with great IS - So I think the Panasonic FZ200 at constant F2.8 but at 600mm at current discounted prices is a good deal - I am sure Panasonic will update soon hopefully they will keep that lens - The Fuji S1 promises to be good - any price idea ? Your video quality is very nice as to be expected with the great GH3 and the awesome Leica 25mm F1.4 - and the Sony mic is also really good - good stuff

I have no doubt that the S1 will be noticeably better than the SX50 in quite a few areas but quite honestly this is no surprise. The S1 is several months newer and quite a bit more expensive. The SX50 will most likely be replaced shortly. My store has already stopped selling them (mostly because of the recall) but it's also coming up on that time when the models for the new year start getting announced. Still a good comparison video for people looking to pick up a superzoom this year and are not too aware of what's out there.

Save your money. Yes, the S1 does a lot of things better than the SX50, but taking pictures is NOT one of them. The S1 is plagued by picture noise at all ISO settings to the point where IQ is abysmal, much worse than the SX50. The camera itself feels hollow and cheap compared to just about anything else in this segment and the SilkyPix RAW conversion software that comes with it is glitchy and unreliable. As a Fuji fan from way back, I found the S1 a huge disappointment.
@SuperAZXCVB11 жыл бұрын
Nvertheless I am disappointed That in FUJI S1 will not be digital zoom up to 200x (as in sony hx300 or canonsx50) or 300x (as in Panasonic fz72) because in this models U can also made great quality videos up to 200x or 300x -so I for example downloaded Jupiter Moons on my channel from Sony. In S1 - only 100x-it will be not good seen as far as I am concerned. In Panasonic 1200mm=50x and teleconverter 1.7x 50 = 85 optical zoom. So PANASONIC FZ72 with Teleconverter RULES. Not S1 in focal length. In hx300 digital zoom in VGA is 810x ...
