Fujifilm's XF 16-55 vs 18-55 Lens Comparison - Which One is For You?

I have both the 16-55 2.8 and the 18-55 and us them on my X-T4. I am keeping both and here is why at least for me..... The 16-55 never misses focus. It just nails it especially in lower light situations. It is my main photo lens. The image quality is just a tad bit better than the 18-55..hardly noticeable. But it is there. The 16-55 is my early morning and night lens.....when I need a zoom. The 16 1.4 is my main lens for night work. The Viltrox lenses also do an excellent job when I need a prime lens. The 18-55 is my main video lens. It is smaller....perfect for carrying around. It has the linear motor focus which makes for good smooth focusing. It is my daylight lens of choice for when it isn't raining. The 16-55 comes out for rain. I rarely use the 18-55 for photography. This lens for me is a great video lens. Don't get me wrong....it makes great photographic images....it is just that I feel more secure about focus with the 16-55....most probably due to the constant 2.8 FL. If it came down to having to choose between the two.....I would pick....the 16-55. If I need low light performance...the 16-55 is able to do it. Having both has advantages.

great points! i myself have felt weird about having two overlapping lenses of such similarity but its true they each have their own use case scenario

Hi Andre, how are you? I have a question, or rather a concern. I am a product photographer, I was shooting with the 80mm macro. However, since I shoot in a small area, I will be buying the 16-55 tomorrow. While watching your video, I saw that when you point the lens down at minute 9:21, it opens by itself. Will I have any problems with overhead shots? Thank you =)

Just getting into fujifilm, portability seems to be an important factor. I don’t mind big lenses, but I’m also really drawn to the smaller fujifilm lenses. So it seems like 18-55mm might be the one I end up getting! Thanks for the informative video!

Thanks for the very good explanation of how you use these lenses and why you've decided to keep both. Seeing them side-by-side, it's amazing the size difference. I'm not sorry I went with the 16-55, but I can definitely see the advantages of the 18-55 in many cases. Maybe down the road if I can pick up one for cheap, I'll grab it.

thanks for the comment! the size of the 18 is great but if you're liking the 16 and its not holding you back in any way then you might not need the 18 :)

That OIS comparison was clutch!!! I was closed to pulling the trigger on the 16-55 but I'm not a fan of that slight jitter. I thought the IBIS would tackle most if it but because I go handheld 100% of the time, I need as much help from the tech as possible. The 18-55 FTW then! I'm happy I didn't sell mine yet haha. 18-55 is definitely more stable than the 16-55 :)

Witam , bardzo rzeczowy i pomocny film , posiadam między innymi obiektyw 18-55mm i używam z XT3 , i potwierdzam że jest to bardzo dobrze wykonany z stabilizacją sprzęt , używam go bardzo często szczególnie przy wyjazdach i bardzo cenię sobie to szkło , dziękuję za radę aby ustawić stałą przysłonę na f/4 ,pozdrawiam.

When you hold them side by side, I think that says it all. I have not held the 16-55 so was curious. Thanks for doing that! The added quality comes with a price in terms of size. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Now you should review the 15-45. It’s wider, lighter , cheaper and has good image quality.
