The X Pro 1 stopped me drinking! I wanted to go dry so promised myself that if I didn't drink for a year I'd buy one and I did. Been on the wagon for nearly a decade now but sold my collection of X mount kit two years ago. I went back to Fuji and bought an X100V last year though! I remember many shots with the X Pro 1 that were focussed on the background! Nice camera but could be frustrating.

I was thinking back recently about how bad the early digital cameras looked on paper (Minolta Dimage and some flat 110 shaped 4mp Nikon come to mind). I held off. They would surely be a lesson in how far digital has come?

I've got to say thank goodness for Fujifilm sticking to their guns with APS-C and a more classic user interface - I learnt my photography on a film SLR (Pentax MX) and even though my age suggests I would prefer a PASM setup, the old way still makes so much more sense to me and Fuji give me that. I almost fell out of love with taking pictures when I switched to big, clunky, heavy DSLRs and I'd often just leave my camera behind but then I bought the X70 and I fell back in love. Here I am now 8 years later with an X-E4 and although other brands are pushing the tech forward in impressive ways, still none of them have made me want to pick up and use their cameras because even their mirrorless offerings still look and act like big, heavy, clunky PASM DSLRs. Not to mention the insanely chungus lineup of mirrorless lenses. Who needs the gym when you have to carry those bad boys around.

I even learned photography on PASM camera... but once I made myself familiar with the direct controls for the exposure-triangle of the X-T1 I really never turned back. It feels so much more intuitive to just change, what you want to change and put to Auto, what you don't want to cope with right now, than the PASM which feels like changing the whole "mode" and controls of the camera.

Lovely… I chopped in my Canon 5D and all the lenses for the xpro 1. I have to admit I found the adjustment hard but with time and ironically a number of pentax k primes with an adapter, it has stretched my imagination. I still have the xpro 1, 18 and 60mm but have recently invested in the 23 f2, 50 f2 and 16-80… and an xt-4. I don’t think I will ever sell it. I still have my dads pentax mx and even on old zenith so there you go. Also of note Adobe with the enhance mode does a nice job on both my raf files and the Canon raw from the 5D

In absolute terms, image quality had already reached a very usable level ten years ago. Before that, low light performance and dynamic range were the biggest issues, only Canon carried that flag of hurt a little bit longer than the rest. Today it is all about perfect 3D bird poo tracking and 17 inch touch capable back-LCDs. Not having that makes the camera feel dated. The age of a camera is way more noticeable in the process of taking the shot than in the resulting picture now, I believe.

Absolutely. And the usability is a very important factor tho. I used an A7Rii with a Tamron 28-75. Switched it "down" to a G9 with full lens setup. And while my image quality may "suffer". The results of my imagery have just improved overall bc I enjoy taking pics more

In many ways that's probably why the X-Pro 1 has aged better than other mirrorless cameras of the time - it has all the same drawbacks, but they designed it with the shooting experience in mind, and that vintage shooting experience is naturally one that discourages using those modern convenience features anyway.

I use my X-Pro1 and X100T almost daily, love them both. After having lost interest in photography a bit about 10 years ago, it was the X-Pro1 which rekindled the flame. I especially like the 35/1.4 and 18/2 lenses. THANKS, FUJIFILM!!!

I picked up an X-Pro 1 last year and have really enjoyed the experience! Yes, it is slower than any modern Fuji, but it creates such beautiful images. Slowing down is not always a bad thing when being creative.

Slowing down, finding that particular composition and making every shot count. That's what I missed out on while starting out with a Fuji XT3 which is why I'm exploring manual focus and film photography. It really is nice to to switch to a slower pace when shooting sometimes :)

I am one of the X-T1 Cult follower except for its notorious rubber skin peeling off/stretching off this has been my favorite camera of all time. I used to shoot a lot with the X-T30 but I found the xtrans iv 26mp sensors to be quite muted and dull in comparison to the first two sensors.

best size for aps c is 16 mp. 26 mp is too loud for aps c. That's why the xt1 and xpro1 image quality is the best.

@@definitelynotagoodperson5456 send it back for repair. Even out of warranty they’ll usually fix it for free. I did the same for mine and they fixed it. It is just a sticker in the end. Find anything on the camera, mention it and they’ll take care of it. I sent my entire camera in as i came with it into the store (battery grip, 16mm 1.4 and the xt-1 and it was fixed for free) but forgot to mention a loose button…… I love my xt-1 and would have nothing else. Perhaps a bit of stabilisation but that is not necessary for me.

While no camera company makes the perfect camera, Fuji has worked hard to improve the joy of using their cameras over the years while staying relevant with current technology available. And it's nice to see a company that is committed to APS-C for those of us who don't want to carry a full frame kit.

I recently picked up an X-E1 just to see what the original X Trans sensor would produce, especially with some of the earlier lenses, e.g. 35mm f1.4, 18mm f2. Haven't been disappointed. Great form factor for street work and good copies can be acquired for about $200.

Bought a used X-Pro1 5 years ago, still using it now as a back up camera. The images are great, especially shooting on B&W. As long as my X-Pro 1 is still working, will not think about upgrading to the other X-Pros. Its very great camera! I am so glad you have made this video. Thumbs up!

Still rocking two X-Pro1 cameras, it's all I now use. To be honest, the image quality is superb, camera form factor and usability fit me perfectly, and the RAW files are a dream to edit. I use one body with Fujinon lenses and the OVF, which I love using. The second body I use manual focus lenses like the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 or 7Artisans 50mm f1.1 - now that is a winning combination! The original sensor seems to shine with vintage, manual glass. It slows me down and I enjoy the process much more. Great look back!

I spent a year with the X-Pro 1 as my main camera - absolutely loved it. Learned so much and my photographic skills grew so much. The colours are just magical out of the old sensor. When I sold it, I was quick to pick up an old X-E1. Same experience, minus the OVF in a smaller package. Love it.

Speaking of Kaizen, I’m hoping Fuji listens and adds nostalgic neg to their xt4/x100v and other modern cameras outside of the medium format system. They seemed to have abandoned that philosophy. There’s literally 0 reason film simulations should be locked to certain cameras, they used to be great about adding features with firmware updates but now it seems like firmware is almost exclusively for bug fixes. Fuji owners like me used to criticize Sony for releasing cameras with arbitrarily software removed features to differentiate their cameras and make people buy the more expensive models but now Fuji is doing exactly that with their film sims.

No chance. Fuji actually rarely do it. They have only done it before with Classic Chrome, I think. Them never giving the XT3 Classic Neg is a good example that they just don't do it. NN is my default import profile in Lightroom, available to all Fuji X cameras by deleting the camera name in a NN GFX camera file where it says restricted.

I’m a serious amateur photographer and the first camera I bought was Nikon d5000. A few years later I upgraded to the d500 which I still have and love. The problem is, it’s too heavy!! Then I kind of stopped taking pictures of my kids sports and then started hearing about mirrorless cameras and decided to give it a go. I bought a xt-20’to see if I liked and i did. Being able to the the exposure on screen is wonderful!! I was hooked to Fuji, hit a xt-3 as there were a few things I didn’t like about xt-20. I’m still not prepared to upgrade to xt-4 as I think mine still does its job but I couldn’t resist and just got the xs-10 (ibis, bigger grip and the flip screen for a reasonable price). I absolutely love Fuji cameras!

I still have my X-Pro 1 and still works fine. That being said I did buy an X-Pro 3 about a year ago and rarely use the X-Pro 1. What brought me to the Fuji line originally was the film simulations. Modern cameras prior to the X-Pro 1 always made be long for the film camera era. Very pleased with Fuji.

A local photographer buddy sold me his X-Pro1 and two lenses for an absolute steal, and I've loved it ever since. It was my gateway into the Fuji X-mount system and I went on to buy two X-H1 cameras, which I also love. The X-Pro1's only weakness for me is the relatively slow autofocus, but it still makes for a great leisurely street camera.

The X-Pro1 is my favorite camera I have ever owner and still use to this day. I think it saved my photography as I got so bored of using modern cameras. The IQ is incredible for such a compact camera, and it's so much fun to shoot with. I even ended up selling my X-Pro3 as I didn't need the fancy upgrades.

I travelled to a lot of locations around the world with that camera and the X100s. I was never disappointed with the results and even today, enjoy revisiting those images. I still use both of them and they still backup my X-Pro2. I do have all three of the original lenses as well.

I had an xt10 (older fuji sensor) and an XT3, and I always preferred the images from the older xt10. Old is gold in the fujifilm sensor world.

The problem with the Xpro1 is that it poduces such wonderful photos that it makes you question why you need any other cameras in the Fuji lineup. I bought years later an Xpro2 to replace my Xpro1, but for almost all intended purposes, the Xpro1 is just as good (I use most of my cameras for street photography). I think the XT10/20/30 are better companions to the Xpro1, because they offer a complete different form factor, great IQ, and such a small size. My only gripe with Xpro1 is that Fuji never included red or blue peaking just white that's very very difficult to use for manual focusing.

I agree with the peaking. I am glad it's there, but it is inferior to any other camera I with peaking I have used. The only things that the X-Pro 1 lack for me are weather resistance and an option for an electronic shutter. I got the X-Pro 1 last year and shot over 1000k frames with it mostly during the summer. I also shoot streets with it. :)

AF is not great in low light and even in daylight it's not always a hit (I think it's contrast only?), and the CPU is a bit slow. For all practical purposes it has no buffer to speak of. And video is straight garbage. Other than that it's a great camera, if you're not in a hurry you can definitely enjoy using it. There's something I like about the image quality, although if you take a photo of a green field it looks awful (grass smears in a weird way).

My return to photography was brief a stint last year with my Pixel 3a mobile phone and then - due to being impoverished - a second hand Xpro1 with the 23mm 1.4. Sadly the camera is begining to fail, but I love the images that come out if it, so maybe shall buy another until I can afford something like the 3. That said, I'll be hiring a 3 first. My photography and style has been formed by this little workhorse, and I've now become far more picky about the tech in hand. New imho doesn't necessarily mean better. Great video.

I bought the X-Pro 1 last year ! It is so much fun to use. I love it and I will shoot with it until it breaks. I have used it with 23/35 F2 primes, Zeiss Touit 32mm F1.8, 18-55mm kit lens. First 27mm F2.8 lens. The ISO performance is solid up to 3200 easily. I've also printed 50x70cm picture from this camera. X-Pro 1 files are great and especially in black and white.

Picked up a used X-Pro1 a few years back and only shoot old primes on it with simple adapters. Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Pentax, etc. The old primes are great and for a more challenging tactile feel, the X-Pro1 plus vintage lenses is a lot of fun.

I just picked up an X-Pro1 last summer. The top plate is brassed like crazy and the LCD is pretty scratched up but this thing is amazing with a 23mm f/2. If I leave the house, it's always with me.

I can say it's more sluggish when it comes to performance compared to what I used to own but my shooting style just feels fit with what the Xpro1 can do... no body needs fast AF when shooting streets we do zone focusing

I used an xpro1 for years. I absolutely loved the thing. adapted lenses depending on the focal length looked so good! I had just moved on to full frame mirrorless since all I use really is older film lenses or all manual lenses like Zeiss. I was honestly sad the day I traded it in. but I got more than enough use out of it and better for it to find a better home. This video kinda hit the nostalgia bone for me

Was glad to see Chris mentioned that the X-Pro 1 was broken upon release. When I first tried it out, it was truly terrible. The camera would freeze the display when focusing and other terrible performance hitches. Thankfully, Fujifilm did a wonderful job in updating the camera and turning it into a great imaging machine.

I bought a used XP1 about four years ago, and it's the best cam I've ever owned. Granted, it's the most nearly upmarket cam I've ever bought, but I'm still impressed with its sharpness, and nothing else I've ever shot with was any good at ISO 1600, while this one is great. I understand cameras have come a long way since then, but for me, I'd say I got my $275 worth and then some.

It's interesting. The image quality still holds up, years later. Things have improved, but not so dramatically. It makes me think about what I'm actually looking for in a camera, and how many overstuffed features I could take or leave. In a lot of ways, I just want something like this, but it really works- snappy start-up and operation, great battery life, well thought out controls.

Chris, the reason why you now like the X-Pro1 more, is called aging. The X-Pro1 was my first step in X-mount early 2012. It was indeed useless at first. I’ve owned in total 12 X and some GFX cameras and used them for both personal and professional work until early 2020 when I switched. The one that remained is the X-Pro2. The X-Pro2 fixed almost all of the issues of the X-Pro1 without the unneccessary gimmicks of the X-Pro3. I still use it every now and then for personal work. Highly recommended.

I started with the X-T2, moved to the X-T4, and then downsized to the X-S10, and while I'm looking to move to Sony for my pro work, there's nothing as enjoyable as shooting Fuji (barring the X-S10). I'll still remain loyal to Fuji in some way, as I have an X100V as my personal camera, and am not ruling out picking up future ILC in the future.

I don't need the highest megapixels count nor do I need better low light performance, it's just enough for me. I just wished X-Pro 1 have more option for film simulations just like later Fujis that come after it

I just bought a used but in great condition XPro1 like almost a month ago. I also own an XT3 and an XT1 and right now I see myself picking up more the Pro1. I just love everything on this camera. Also currently matched to a late 1970’s canon 50mm f1.4 fd lens and I love it!👌🏻

Bought this camera second hand last year. X mount is amazing, fujifilms ergonomics are just brilliant. Plus shooting with the OVF is the only way to go

I actually had one for about 6 months last year, alongside my X-T4. Though I eventually replaced it with an X100V, I really enjoyed the output of that original X-Trans sensor.

I used to own an X-PRO1 and I flipped it for the 3. Only downside was that Fujifilm actually dumbed down the OVF by removing the dual magnification on the frame lines. It's clear that Fujifilm sees the OVF as a place to trim rather than enhance. About 16MP, well I have a load of photos shot on a 10MP Pentax K10D and they're really good all things considered. For the average amateur enthusiast like me, adding MP just means I have to add more HDD space.

I'm still using the X-Pro1 on a regular basis. I shoot mostly analog for the last few years. But when I shoot Digital, I do it either with my phone or when I need the professional stuff, it will be the X-Pro 1. I shot many weddings with it, and it performed great. I love the camera and I will keep it until it breaks, or when I will get an X-Pro 3 for cheap.

I bought a used X-Pro 1 about a year ago and still enjoy it. I keep hoping to find an X-Pro 3 on sale to get that flip screen for shooting from the hip but those prices never seem to drop at all.

@@NinjaMonkeyPrime I think the X-Pro line will hold its value for a long time. Look at the X-Pro 2, used in stores it starts with 700 € and goes up to 1000 €. Ridiculous. =) X-Pro 1 great camera, I will shoot with it until it breaks.

I just picked up an X-Pro1. I shoot a decent amount of film and wanted a Fuji X100S/T/or F and couldn't find any at a reasonable price. Found a X-Pro1 locally for sale. The previous owner is a USA X-Photographer, which is great because it was very well taken care of. I have a ton of film lenses that I can adapt to it too.

It’s a great little camera the XPro1, still have mine and still use it with the three original lenses, I have added a 56/F1.2 to the collection and am looking to add a 23mm to complete the kit. The camera is such a joy to use, small inconspicuous yet produces great images. I shot a portrait session on it a year or so back, the images we took blow up to A2 quite happily, works well at night and is just so nice compared to the big DSLR’s and Mirrorless pseudo DSLR’s that we have out there today. If I’m around town and want to get images without sticking a big chunk of glass in someone’s face then the XP1 and 35mm is a great way to go. Nice video guys.

The xpro1 is my main camera still, I only use the 18mm on it which suits me perfectly. I enjoy this camera so much to shoot with I never wanted to upgrade and the image quality is still great for my needs. It was a fair chunk of change in 2012, 10yrs on it was worth every penny.

All I use is an xpro1 with adapted vintage glass. It looks and feels like film, feels analog. 10/10 for what it is.

I bought a cheap X-Pro1 as a sort of working prop for Goodwood Revival. I was very pleasantly surprised by the image quality of what my daughter and I shot that day. It stands up well compared to what I shot on my XT-4. I originally planned to trade it straight back in after the event, but I have hung on to it as a spare body. Sometimes just having something that offers a different shooting experience can be refreshing.

Great look back and well done. I had the X-Pro1 (picked it up used) along with a used 23 mm f1.4. I traded it in for the X-Pro2 (the last camera I would ever sell) and the 23 mm lives on just fine. But there was something about that X-Pro1 that was just undeniable. Honestly, the images shot hold up to anything shot currently for all realistic scenarios. I feel as if modern cameras are splitting hairs: they're stuff with features that I suspect many of us do not need ultimately. The physical advancements are probably the most useful (IBIS, longer battery life, tiltable screens, dual card slots, better switches and buttons, etc.) whereas some of the software advances... meh... don't need all of them.

Kind of surprised Jordan didn't like the X-Pro1's video w/ the internal mic. It gave his voice a kind of ..... sexy tone! 🤣 Nice review guys. It was the X-Pro1 that got me away from heavy DSLRs and into smaller/lighter mirrorless cameras. No regrets. I still have my X-Pro1 and 35mm f/1.4. Took it out shooting the other day and it was just as satisfying as it was ten years ago.
