Since I shoot mostly from the hip, it is the ideal camera for me for street. I have also determined that I can scroll through presets on the back panel just by tapping the Q and then using the back wheel. Same with the button above. I just wish it was backlit a little. I am only using the 35 1.4 lens at this time and like the fact that it forces me to frame and think about what I'm shooting. I love the raw in camera conversion too. Mostly I love the look at feel of it. All black no markings, minimal buttons etc. It's the closest thing to a Leica 240 or M without the expense. I'm also trying to shoot in 1:1 and also not crop after again trying to bring mindfulness into what I'm shooting. Many think that it is only the final image that counts but I disagree and think that the way you arrive at something is just as important. Another channel recently went off about someone who takes 30 min to make a cup of coffee and they thought that it was a big waste of time. Their opinion is that only the final thing counts not how you get there. I was thinking of that Mick Jagger and the Tiger double exposure by Albert Watson. Today you could easily do this in about 15 min in Photoshop. But Albert Watson is an amazing photographer who knew his craft and tools and is a real artist. In my opinion, how you do something, the pathway there is as, if not more important as the final product.

Thanks for the first impressions and especially for pointing out that titanium itself is rather soft. As a watch and bicycle guy I felt puzzled by all the reviewers presenting titanium as an extra tough material. I guess Fuji addressed it with the Dura coating - just as some watch manufacturers do... The always on viewfinder really turns me off, on my X-Pro1/ X-Pro2 I use the 'always off until needed' setting. Maybe it will be updated via firmware update.
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
The problem is some start to make scratch tests on Dura expecting it to be even more scratch resistant. When its more an attempt to make titanium on par with magnesium or in watches, steel :)

Ahhh. Been waiting for a first impressions video! You know, I don't understand why every camera with a tilt screen doesn't deactivate the eye sensor. It's the most obvious feature (and EXTREMELY practical)! Seems like that could be a firmware fix, right? I would LOVE that for my X-T2's. That's very odd that you're having issues with the new simulation in LR. It's a shame too, since Classic Neg. looks even better to me than my beloved Classic Chrome. Hopefully it will be fixed for the RAW shooters.

Great comments Mattias. I've not used Classic Neg yet. Been shooting Raw plus Pro Neg Std and not had any issues in LR since the last update which added support for the X-Pro3. Main complaint I have which is a small but irritating one, is that there isn't a warning light to tell you that the camera is still switched on. The rear sub-screen changes when off but that's not instantly visible. A small led light would have been handy. As I said only a small complaint from me. Other than that I love the camera. I tried a pre-production model for several hours about a month before release and that sold me on the camera. I look forward to your review because they are always well thought through.

I think the x-pro3 is a brilliant camera. But I also have an x-e3 and x-t2 that I love. I think what I truly love about Fuji is the lens line, the APS-C sensor size, and the physical dials. I don't think the x-pro3 adds enough onto what I have. What excites me about it is computational -- I can wait for a used x-e5 to get the better focus in lowlight, HDR and multiple exposure functions, tone/curve editing, and what will probably be an equivalent or better EVF by that time for 1/2-1/4 of the price.

May I ask your view on the haptic feedback you get from the shutter button? In my camera, when I half press the shutter button I need to put that extra effort to press it down in order to focus and then the remaining distance till I actually take the photo is minimal with no "click" feeling like in other cameras. Like after the button reaches the end of the "focus" point the remaining distance to actually take the picture is very small. How is it in your case?

I finally managed to get Classic Neg from the X-Pro3 working with raw in Lightroom and no artifacts. There was a new version of Lightroom released a few days ago and to my surprise it had installed itself on my computer. Strange since I always turn off automatic updates on my OS, phone, all softwares etc. I never ever update anything unless there is a specific reason. But for some reason my Lightroom had done it on its own and thats probably what did it :) Anyway, good for Fuji to get on the ball so quickly. So now my problem is instead to find out WTF is up with Creative Cloud who thinks it can do what ever it feels like.. (EDIT: I have also found an article where Phase One confirms that it's the same case for Capture One. Fujifilm provided the needed documentation.)

Great first impressions review. Have you tried Capture One Express for Fujifilm, and if so did you find it to be any better then LR?
@vikmanphotography79845 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the express version of CaptureOne but the raw processing is far nicer than adobe's. CaptureOne is also the obvious choice if you ever tether (essential for commercial photography). CaptureOne also has more tools for editing than Lightroom as it's made to also sort of replace Photoshop- especially for color manipulation. Lightroom on the other hand has better organizational tools, IMO and if you use presets (I'll judge you) then Lightroom has a lot more readily available. Lightroom, with its fewer tools is also a lot easier to navigate and learn if you're starting fresh. I use all three of these programs personally as they all have strengths. For studio/commercial work- CaptureOne is miles ahead. For weddings, events, and organizing- Lightroom. Photoshop- I use any time Lightroom/CaptureOne is missing a feature I need or using the feature is too convoluted (most any time I want to do more than basic editing).
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
No I think Lightroom and Fuji works perfectly together. All the talk about them not working in Lightroom is a bit of a myth imo.
@vikmanphotography79845 жыл бұрын
@@gearreallydoesntmatter it did take Adobe a while to support X-trans sensor cameras but that's solved now. I still think that CaptureOne renders Fuji RAW files better though. Cleaner images at high ISO, richer colors, a more linear response from shadow to highlight. You shouldn't see any difference between JPEGs though. Both valuable tools. Both have their place.

Loved the sarcasm about comments. :) Yeah, the drive button is rather pivotal for me. I like having right hand operation for changing that setting while in the middle of shooting an event. The X-Pro2 is holding it's own for me with AF and when I need more I switch to the X-T3. The day that the X-Pro3 was announced was the day that I received my "new" Fuji camera - a near mint condition X-E1. Figured it would be a camera that will force me to slow down and it was considerably less costly than the X-Pro3. :p

I didn't even know it had eye focus :) My EOR R has it to but I haven't tried it yet.
@caoileeleazar5 жыл бұрын
Yes its has an eye detect but only works in evf and lcd mode, but once u switch to ovf it doesn't work. :) I'm guess I'm gonna stick awhile in evf to shoot my portraits
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
@@caoileeleazar I guess. I will probably never use eye AF so its not a big deal to me. But if they can use it with the OVF I hope they will.

Hi! Great footages you have there. May I asked if the pictures are edited? Or are they straight out of camera? :)

I'm confused; although I don't own a Fujifilm I thought that film simulations were only for JPEG, and not RAW.
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
No you can add them to raw files as well.

I love your reviews.. may I ask . What would be my first lens for this camera for beach shots?
@gearreallydoesntmatter4 жыл бұрын
Depends on you. I would get a 18 or 35.

Do you find the framing line too small with the 35mm?
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
No I find them perfectly sized.

Mattias Burling thanks! Another user said the line frame in the OVF is smaller than the xpro2 for 35mm. Was thinking if I should buy the 23mm!

for me there is only one reason to buy a x pro series camera. that is not thing can give me the same feeling on another camera when I look though the view finder. from a user who uses x pro1 and pro 2

Hey, wonderful video. I was thinking of investing in the Fuji system and was wondering which lens did you use for the majority of shots shown in this video, I seem to like the field of view in all your pictures. Thanks in advance.
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
It's pretty much the 35mm f1.4 only in this video.

Hi! Thanks on for time for your amazing content. Sorry have you had the chance to try the OVF with the 18mm?, Seems that x-pro2 handles it in a much better way. that's the only holding my back to buy this camera.
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
No I haven't used the 18mm unfortunately. Only the 35mm and some adapted glass with a EF speed booster and some vintage Minolta and Pentax lenses.

I always appreciate your videos, because your honesty and very well thought and balanced opinions. This is the first time I cannot be fully agree with your comments in both on pros and cons of this camera. But, this camera brings that, a mix of feelings. Personally, I think this was another missed shot by Fuji in terms of design, despite its incredible and undeniable features and capacity as a digital camera. Very good video, as usual, and compliments for the excellent photos you made. Have a great day!

Just curious, you don't agree with the cons, wouldn't you want more options?
@LuisGabriel_Curiojo5 жыл бұрын
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I've been a Fuji user since 2013 and the relation between its RAF (raw) files and Adobe has been no less than mediocre. So, for me it isn't strange that this camera (as of today) doesn't work as it should in Lr. Regarding the price topic, I agree it could be a bit overpriced, not because the competition you showed in your video (which are clever options undoubtedly) but for the addition of ‘improvements’ and ‘gadgetry’ that isn't necessarily in correspondence with the mojo of this camera. For instance, the rear panel showing jpeg profile which can be seen through the EVF or worst, the camera settings which are all available to the eyes in the top plate and lens. Other, is the improvement of the OVF for normal focal lens, which is not the most used in street photography. This indicates to me, that Fuji wants to cover a wider array of uses for this camera but, having the XT-3 as a more versatile and best seller camera, it hasn't much sense to me bring trade off to a camera of this price. Here is where Leica (which is oftentimes compared, unfortunately) excels with its philosophy of simplicity.
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
@@LuisGabriel_Curiojo All other Fujis works perfectly out of the box in Lightroom so this should to imo. Can't see how more options for the eye sensor could be a negative. Don't see the positive in removing the recording option. And the price is pretty steep imho.
@LuisGabriel_Curiojo5 жыл бұрын
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I understand you better now. I'm sorry if I failed to explain myself the first time. I agree with your cons (although not for the same reasons). But I get it, when you referred to Lr issue. As of today, it shouldn't happen but the algorithms are not always the same from camera to camera iterations (same sensor-processor combo) and Adobe - Fuji has a historical relation of delay in updating Lr. But you're right and this is a truly con for a camera of this price.

Hi! I remember I start following your channel almost 7 years ago, with BMPCC. Can I ask for a favor? would you make a video about BMPCC (first gen) in 2019-2020? Is it a dead cam? Does Black magic still support it? Are you using it and if you got it today, how would you rig it? Thanks!
@gearreallydoesntmatter5 жыл бұрын
I was using the original micro earlier this year. Same sensor and it definitely is still good enough.
