Yes the X-Pro 3 does speak to your heart, your head, and your soul. I nearly sold my Leica CL but wound up keeping it (thankfully) but still went ahead and bought the X-Pro3. It is such a fine camera, makes me want to create, makes me want to get out every day in the winter, snow or rain or sunshine, and find pictures. Very appreciated your review of this, and the “soul” of this camera.

The ISO can be set to the front wheel and the shutter to the rest wheel. This method makes the combo-dial rather redundant but makes manual shooting very fast. It's how I shoot with both my x100f and X-H1. Aperture, shutter and then exposure with the ISO.
@douglasdrumond5 жыл бұрын
David Whittley that can’t be done on x-pro2, I hope they bring that configuration to the x-pro3
@mrmalone91575 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s how I shoot with the x100f and T3/H1 also, agree it’s a fast and easy process. I have no idea why that’s not available on the pro2, strange and disappointing decision there.
@adrianguggisberg36565 жыл бұрын
The fastest way to shoot full manual with the XP2 is to do it as you shoot neg film: set shutter and aperture as you want and let auto ISO take care of exposure. Within reason of course, but you can underexpose the XP2 up to 5 stops without penalty, even more with monochrome. There’s plenty of room to play with, all you need to do is make sure not to overexpose key highlights.
@DavidWhittley5 жыл бұрын
@@adrianguggisberg3656 It may be the fastest way with the Xpro2 but the ISO wheel method will be a lot faster and far more accurate than the just 'auto ISO'. No more fiddling with AE lock or turning the exposure compensation dial to 'correct' what the camera believes is the right exposure for the scene and certainly a lot less time correcting exposure in post.
@adrianguggisberg36565 жыл бұрын
@@DavidWhittley Yup, that's how I used to shoot, too. However, these days autoexposure works brilliantly and shooting digital has become almost as easy and convenient as shooting film. I only set ISO to manual if there is a particular reason. Ymmv, but for the kind of photography an XPro makes sense, auto ISO is the way to go most of the times.

Is it me but I think the Xpro 3 has made the Xpro 2 a more tempting camera to get. After looking at both I decided on the Xpro 2 due to value/function. You can get the Xpro 2 graphite w/ the 23mm F2 bundle for less than a Xpro 3 body alone. Either way, I think both Cameras are great.
@mrmartygervais2 жыл бұрын
Watched your review of the X-Pro3, and yes, you can assign the ISO setting to the front dial, and it’s really convenient. I was a little taken aback by the rear panel screen arrangement, but after about 20 minutes, it didn’t matter. I do like the waist level aspect when you flip down the screen. Reminded me of using an old twin lens reflex camera (the Russian Lubitel). Anyway, I do have the CL, and it has always been my favourite camera, but since picking up this X-Pro3, it is soon becoming my favourite. I still own both, but the X-Pro3 with weather sealing is amazing. I got the Dura (black) version because it was on sale for the same price as the painted black … Smudges yes, but that doesn’t bother me either. It wipes off pretty easily. Anyway, thanks for the review. The X-Pro3 is a photographer’s camera! Lightweight, intuitive, and those simulations are beautiful.

Well spoken Sir. Enjoyed it very much. $1900.00 Dollar is still a steal compared to a Leica camera. I have the X PRO 2, and don't get me wrong I love this camera so much, but I have been patiently waiting for the tilting screen, and finally my prayers has been answered. I can shoot below my chest now. Plus an added bonus of the nostalgic film look aesthetic in the back.

Seeing and handling the XPro3 in NY at Photo Plus (sorry I wasn't able to run into you there it would have been nice to shake you hand), has convinced me that should I buy another XPro to supplement my other Fuji cameras it will not be an XPro3 it will be an XPro2. I don't like the screen design, for me personally it's a deal breaker. But with all these people getting the 3 that will likely mean some 2's will be available at a nice price used now... :)
@Yalelax5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Hugh. I don't want to minimize the haptonics that make the Pro desirable and fun to use. As you know there are a few superficial differences in the bodies, i.e., the location of the viewfinder, the availability of EVF which mimics the Leica RF models, etc., etc. We can agree that none of these features will allow one to differentiate the same image captured with both cameras. I have used Leica cameras for many years and can no longer justify the high price for the glass and bodies. IMO there will be little to no discernible differences in images captured with the Leica M digital RF cameras vs. the Fuji XT3 or Pro 3. Other camera manufacturers have been able to approach the quality of Leica M glass at a fraction of the price. I am interested in the Pro model but have difficulty justifying the price difference from the T3. It is likely that most or all of the film simulations currently limited to the Pro will be available by an update on the T3. As is almost always the case when parsing cameras that are essentially the same as to image quality, the ineffable "experience" of using the camera will guide the purchase. Elliot

You are a gentleman Hugh - only you could sugar coat (and get away with credibility in tact) the epic and unnecessary design fail which is the flippy screen -which I could put up with if it wasn't for the dumbing down of the OVF AND the disappointing EVF ....Fuji seem to be going down the road of well we have this thing everyone wants called IBIS - But we will use it only on the H series and we have this new processor and chip - but we will only offer it to X series...and if someone wants all the goodies- well - tough luck... Yep the old school CL still has the better EVF, ( importantly on the side of the camera body) better build quality ( titaaaaanium titaaaaanium not required) better menu system and better user shooting experience and via L mount glass MORE and better total lens system to draw from.....

Love is an understatement. The cl is magic! I wish it were weather sealed. And I don’t mind not having an ovf. That said, I’ve rented the xpro3 twice, because I’d love to have the Fuji aps lens lineup. With both rentals, I sent it back convinced about the cl. It is headed in the right direction, but not there yet. They need a better evf, a better solution to iso, and a more simplistic menu system like the cl. I know your review is abut dated, but I sure do love the re watch. Thanks for keeping us excited about our hobby!

The LCD situation is a big deal. I think people can misunderstand the power of a versatile rear screen in the street. I'm often at the viewfinder on my A7c (for better or for worse ha). BUT, I can very easily shoot at literal sidewalk surface level, hip, overhead, etc etc thanks to the articulating screen. This has absolutely resulted in shots which were otherwise completely impossible. I can't just lay on the sidewalk without disturbing the scene. I sure can "tie my shoe" though! If I wasn't on the A7C I think I'd be on this little Fuji. Hell, I'm thinking of being on both haha. I want that sweet sweet Fuji color.

While I do own the Xpro3, I did get the chance to try it out. I never much like the LCD screens on cameras for shooting. They mainly only served the purpose of setting up the camera or adjusting the settings as I go. I always treated my cameras that have these as a film camera and just take the picture and look at it later when back home. It's too time consuming to be always looking at it. Another thing, I would ask Fuji to do away with the video feature on this particular model and focus more on the photographer's use. Put the video use more on another model. Make the window to focus a little bigger, make the battery bigger or find a way for it last longer perhaps. Maybe these will appear in the next upgrade, I don't know really. But I love the look of it, the ISO feature on this on the 2 caught my attention. It looks more and more like an actual film camera than just a touch and go point camera...or kid toy. I abhor having the camera having total control of the shot I take. It's like I have no artistic control whatsoever lol. Everyone is different and I know this, but as this particular model has grown since its coming avail back 2012, it has shown promise. It is my hope that Fuji will keep evolving this to be more photographer's tool rather than just another toy. If it costs more to buy, so be it. I rather buy something quality than something I could pick up at Target or Wal Mart for about few hundred dollars- cards included. The adapters to put Summicron lenses on it is def interesting. I was not aware Leica's line of lenses could work on these, if I understood you right that is. Anyway, after seeing this and the one you did on the 2, definitely will look into this camera a little more. I was thinking about getting the xpro1 and converting it infrared when had time and getting the 3 when had the money to do so or maybe even waiting til the 4th gen came out. All the X series cameras I have seen, have about 4 or 5 progressing models to chose from, so logically it would be so for the Xpro line. Thanks for the video ...def will subscribe 👍

Hmm ...CL vs XPRO3 - I own both the CL and XPRO2, (also the X-H1 which I'm shooting together with the CL on a Thailand trip right now). Superior build - debatable but I don't think so. Suprior control- definitely not (fe: I've just tried full manual mode on the CL again and the camera just doesn't show me the actual exposure before shot etc etc.). Less is not more. Superior feel in hands - I need to use on both cameras a thumb up grip, so maybe equal. Superior lenses - I agree, but so much more expensive... What you can say pro CL the camera is defenatly more compact.

Call me crazy but I would much prefer this camera with no LCD screen at all like the Leica MD (but keeping the new little screen on the back) and with a straight L shape angle on its right side like the X100f. I love my XPro2 but this design going lower towards the right is something that really bothers me a lot. Other than that, no need to change this camera’s design anymore. Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel that Fuji is attempting to touch a niche market (and I think they should) however, they are doing it in a subtle, shy and almost afraid way. I believe they would be much more innovative if they make the changes I suggest above so the customers would appreciate even more the X-Pro3. They could just keep the production and the price of the X-Pro2 for those who really need or want the LCD and offer a new and really innovative, challenging, desired and special X-Pro3 (with those changes I mentioned) for the, let’s say, different level photographers, a different breed... The way Fuji is doing it now will scare the average photographers (because the screen is weird) and make the more experienced ones skeptical about the camera because the screen is necessary (almost useless) for them. I currently own a good deal of Fujifilm cameras and lenses (X100S, X100T, X100F, X-T1, X-T2, X-T3, X-Pro2, X-H1, XF-14mm f2.8, XF-16mm f2.8, XF-23mm f2, XF-35mm f2, XF-50mm f/2, XF-10-24mm f4, XF-16-55mm f2.8, XF-50-140mm f2.8 and XF-100‑400mm f/4.5‑5.6) so I believe I can say that I know Fujifilm products enough and that I have been observing how Fuji progresses in its camera lineup and that’s how I feel about it. Fuji is proposing that this camera is for more experienced or purist photographers, right? This kind of photographers usually spend their time setting up their cameras before the shooting and don’t waste their time looking at the screen, sweeping, changing unnecessary settings as if shooting with a phone. The X-Pro 3 with no LCD at all could be setup prior to the shooting and when necessary changes are needed it could be done with the dials and bottoms at camera because they are more than enough to change the setting we usually need when shooting (ISO, exp. comp., ss, film s, and aperture on the lens). Really, why do we really need the LCD for the kind of photography that they are advertising the camera for? And this little appeal saying that the camera can be used at waste level is BS. It sounds like the designer team was needing some extra excuse to convince others about the design during the meeting at Fuji and someone who was quiet all the time just said: “look! It also can be used on waste level for more discrete shooting! Like a TLR CAMERA! Isn’t it cool?” It doesn’t look like it was previously thought... If someone really need the LCD, then the right camera should be the X-T3. I thing Fuji is taking a “strange” and risky move. Or maybe its just me being crazy... lol

Great stuff Hugh - I think the improvements warrant an upgrade from the 2. I have so much muscle memory invested in the Fuji system it’d be a shame to lose that! Ultimately, I suspect, the still image photographers the Xpro is clearly aimed at just feel this camera is ‘right’ for them as I certainly do. Whether this is born from intuitive design or familiarity with the camera is open to discussion. I happen to think the two work hand-in-hand very well, and any improvements/ changes will be quickly integrated into my usage (or indeed, not even used). That’s what I like about the Pro - at its most basic, it is still a wonderful tool with the capacity to adapt to most situations very easily. Once again, thanks for a great review Hugh 👍

As I learn more and more about Fuji I see how it is an alternative to Leica. Even if I could afford the CL, the lenses alone would leave anyone broke lol. Fuji has definitely got it going on with their offerings with nothing but excellent quality.

It's not even a debate, what is the best street photography camera...well, it could be a debate, is the XPro3 better than the X100V? One of those is the best above all others.

I myself would think for Street photography and photography in general I’d prefer Fuji’s regular flipping screen. Probably just my shooting style . The camera is beautiful looking to me and love it low impact look . Paired with Fujifilms f/2 lenses it’s perfect. I shoot low light and am begging for the lowest f/stop I can get most of the time. That said f/2 is a great f/stop and these lenses are brilliant. Especially with this style of camera. And the XT2 and 3 bodies as well. I shoot nikon DSLRs but am a huge Fujifilm fan .

As a primarily film shooter, they're absolutely on point for a good number of crowds. The anti-chimpers, the analog folks like myself who are used to the film box tops, people who enjoy shooting at waist level, and people who want to simplify their photography. They've made a camera that is really appealing to many different folks, in my opinion, and have definitely taken the cues of the M10-D to an even more fleshed out result. Nice video again, Hugh!

I always enjoy your videos! I hope I’m not losing you to Fuji. That “last picture” monologue (starting at 5:59 ) almost sounded like a description of my Panasonic G9 (which is getting a bunch of cool firmware upgrades in a couple of weeks). I’ve seen the Fuji colors. They’re very nice! But my G9 rivals them and has so much to offer for the price that I’m not persuaded to look further.

Fab video and insight to the X-Pro3. I sold my X-Pro2 I as I just didn't enjoy the viewfinder/s experience that I get from my X100f. But having said that, I still can't put down my Nikon D4. When I've been on the streets, I've never experienced any bother, or feelings of being noticed with my Nikon, or no more than when using my X100f or my iPhone. But I must say, the D4 has always got the shot with extremely minimal fuss to messing with settings and adjustments, which both the X-Pro2 always needed and my X100f still requires fiddling with. Will have to give this a try and see how it fairs, but it's going to have to be good. God Bless and keep doing this fabulous stuff. Cheers :)

Thanks you for this review. This is probably a strange question but hey ho. I have astigmatism in my right eye, I can see quite well out of it regardless but look through any camera view finder with my left eye. Does his negate the ergonomics of range finder cameras? I'v never used one but find my self intrigued by them, especially the X-pro3, but clearly the viewfinder is designed for the the right eye?

9:41 This right here convinces me of the confused nature of the camera. I remember when this line was marketed to pros on the selling point of the ovf. Now we see floaty, insubstantial marketing aimed at those who want leicas or are nostalgic for film. But the ovf is worse, and the top version of the camera (the dura black looks so nice when clean) was never used by a Fuji engineer who has to hold it for more than an hour. I get the sense that a formerly practical camera line is being repurposed as an unaccountable luxury product, and we'll see more painful omissions on the xpro4 unless the pro3 is rightfully punished in the marketplace.

Just stumbled upon your videos while searching for review about the Fujifilm X range cameras, altough I'm not looking for this specific model, it is a very good and informative video that doesnt get boring after 2 minutes! I do have a question that maybe you can help me with... I am looking for a good all-rounder and I'm torn between the Fujifilm X-T3 and the Lumix GH5 (or maybe the G90). I love photography but also video shooting, I know that both are more than capable for both situations but the sensor size on the GH5 worries me a bit since its a micro four thirds (I suppose light wise is less sensitive than a APS-C) and on the X-T3 since there is no in body stabilization the number of lenses with that feature is very reduced... These may be picky points to consider, anyway, what do you recommend based in your experience? cheers and thank you!

I love your channel and content. Your cadence and tone is reminiscent of radio and tv announcers (my dad was a voice over artist). Great review of the XPRO. I have a question for you, I’d love to get your input on. I’m a professional headshot and portrait photographer, working in a small studio and with natural light outside. I have an XT3 and most recently, a X100V, and I’ve fallen seriously in love with the rangefinder style of the X100. So much so, that I’m considering selling the XT3 to get the XPRO3. I’d love your thoughts on that. I actually like the idea of the “hidden” LCD, and I love the connection with my subject when I look through a rangefinder style camera. It’s intimate and I can feel the camera get out of the way. It feels good to have an eye on my subject. I have no problem with the XT3, it’s great and reminds me of the old Nikon FE that I trained on as a teen. I just feel a deep connection to rangefinder style. I trained on film, shooting since I was 13, and something about the analog feel of the XPRO is calling to me, but unsure how it would be for professional headshots and portraits. Would you feel confident to have the XPRO as a main portrait and even a studio camera? Could it replace my XT3? I also very occasionally shoot family portraits and lifestyle portraits of working artists. My work is all about people and the human connection to clients. Thanks for any thoughts! I trust your expertise. Keep up the great work. Your style is specific and precise, love watching your content.

You know the answer! Fujifilm offers identical sensor and processor internals across multiple body styles; you’ll loose nothing from an image quality perspective going from the X-T3 to the X-Pro3 (this would not be true if you were contemplating the move from an X-T4, which offers IBIS). The nature of what you do means: go for it and enjoy!

I like it, i do.. will i buy it? Not at release price - you can get "classic negative aka superia" by creating a custom classic chrome and pushing/pulling a few options.. The lack of bottom swivel hinge to at least give you the OPTION to have the screen tucked away or not is annoying to. But all that said, i do like it - i like the concept behind it.

Hi, I recently purchased a X PRO 3. I have never had a Fujifilm camera before and I’m looking for 1 amazing lens for street/city shots and something to perform well in low light environments. What would you recommend? Thanks
@3BMEP4 жыл бұрын
Torsten Dimpflmeier well... the classics are (in APS-C) the 23 or 35 f/2 “Fujicrons” which have the additional benefits over the 1.4’s of being smaller, lighter, weather sealed and less expensive. But the 1.4’s do offer an additional stop of light. Of those two focal lengths, I’d go 23 unless most of your work is street portrait - then I’d go XF 35/1.4. However, on of my two favorite lenses in the system is the XF 16/1.4. It’s significantly wider than the 23 yet remains rectilinear. Pair that with the 56/1.2, and you’ve got a killer, atypical set up for street.

Leica CL has superior build and EVF? It has Aluminum top and bottom plate vs X-pro3 Titanium + Weather sealing, CL only has 2.36 M-dot EVF while X-pro3 has 3.69M-dot..also has OVF. Feeling in the hand and control are subjective.
@3BMEP5 жыл бұрын
Kusanagi specs are rarely the whole story.
@ufukkiblat5 жыл бұрын
@@3BMEP Of course, that's why I get "the feeling in the hand and controls" part, but build and EVF are features that can be compared objectively.
@3BMEP5 жыл бұрын
Kusanagi To make the point differently: objectively, the eye relief and magnification are significantly better on the CL. Subjectively, the increase in resolution is insufficient to offset these advantages: the EVF of the CL is easier for me to use for focusing and composition.

3:45 telling someone disappointed by the xpro3 that the camera isn't for them or that the x-t3 exists doesn't work. What if they are upgrading from the xpro1 or 2? What if they, like me, wanted to switch to fuji for the ovf with mini display alone, only to find the ovf worsened and the screen gimped?
@1fareast145 жыл бұрын
7:24 YES. This is the point of street photography for me. You may find the waist-level techinque to be the stealthiest, but letting people use the lcd in the normal position should be integral part of a street camera.
@Thomas_Geist4 жыл бұрын
Anyone else notice that the high refresh rate on the EVF only works if you have the shutter button down? I have BOOST on. That doesn't happen on either my H1 or T2. Did I just get a bad one? If not, KEEP YOUR PRO2.

9:58 I agree on the iso dial, and would argue that fuji's dial scheme needs a redesign. The push-pull dial could click upward like a focus clutch, making it easier to use. Fuji could bite the bullet and add a separate iso dial. Having to use two dials to set exact shutter speed is bad design, either make the writing on the shutter dial smaller, put a screen in it, or split the shutter range, low numbers in regular position, and high numbers in a window. Keeping it the same for years, and letting us use the command dials, is not really a solution.

Personally, I love being a statistical outlier ... I am currently weighing the XPro-3 vs the X100V. I am leaning towards the XPro-3 as the interchangeable lenses is a real "thing" for me from film/SLR days. And the more I see of the XPro-3 the more I like ... sophisticated enough for me to grow into it, for its own virtues. Also a little of future proofing and I think the XPro series, and the XPro 3 specifically are somewhat future proofed, as in having the longevity I prefer. My alternate is the X-T2 which initially got me into the Fujifilm-verse. Coming from a film background, I admit to liking the little back box where you put your film box lid to remind you what you were shooting ... And Leica - as much as I want it to be - is not in the budget. Thanks for yet another wonderful and insightful review/opinion with a somewhat Shakespearian delivery (delightful)!!!
