As an X-T30 user (and previous X-T10 user) I've grown so used to the manual dials that I was scratching my head as to how the program mode dials work these days. At 11.39, it is possible to add any of the Fuji film simulations to the RAW files in Adobe Camera RAW. In the ACR Basic tab, on the right of the drop-down profile menu, there is an icon that takes you to further profiles. Under Camera Matching, all the Fuji film simulations are available, if your RAW file is a RAF (raw fuji). You can then compare the Fuji film simulations on your RAW file, and use any that please you.

I recently discovered your channel and it has become one of my favorite camera channels! Amazing content. I’m still undecided if I should get this camera or the a6600. I mainly shoot video with some light photography. On paper, the specs of the X-S10 look amazing but I’m used to the Sony AF. On the other hand, the horrible rolling shutter of the a6600 is making think more of this camera. I’m losing my hair over this. Lol.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 3 жыл бұрын
I feel that either are a good choice. Yes, Sony's focus is better, but the Fujifilm 200 Mbit video data rate is superior. Consider what you are shooting before you either make focus speed or rolling shutter a major factor in your decision. Most video is shot with a constant distance to the subject, and manual focus is the better solution (for either camera). As for rolling shutter, you are unlikely to actually see the effect in typical video work. Only when you pan quickly is it noticeable. Hope this helps.

@@MaartenHeilbron hello, thanks to your reviews I have now purchased an XS10. Indeed you can use a dial button to change the aperture on the XF 10-24 in mode A on the lens. I am trying to set the Fn-D dial to change the exposure compensation in M mode, which is the last option of that dial menu. However, the button keeps only changing the film simulation even in M mode. Is there something in the menus that I am missing?
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 3 жыл бұрын
@@Edmonotone I'm lost. Which dial are you trying to change? I don't understand the Fn-D Dial. Is it the front or rear dial on the right, or the dial on the left? Then you refer to a button - which button?
@Edmonotone
@Edmonotone 3 жыл бұрын
@@MaartenHeilbron According to the Fujifilm X-S10 manual, the top left dial is called the Fn-D dial. The default setting for that dial is "film simulation". You can change that setting in the SET UP> BUTTON/DIAL SETTING>FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING Menu. When you highlight the Fn-D (Green) dial, the last item on the menu is Fn-D with 3 options: option 1 = DEFAULT, option 2 = DEFAULT with Exposure Compensation (represented by an icon) WHEN SET TO M, and option 3 = NONE. My issue is that when I select option 2 and set the camera on M (manual), and rotate the dial (Fn-D) the camera does not change the exposure but keeps changing the film simulation. I am talking about the Fujifilm X-S10, which you are addressing in the video.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 3 жыл бұрын
Here's the update. And my apologies for not understanding the specifics of this earlier. Now that I have the camera back in my hands - Yes, in the Function Dial setting menu, the dial is indeed called Fn-D, a mention not included in the manual. The manual (p254) is also quite confusing about the options that can be selected. When I set the dial to "EV when set to M", and set the mode dial to M, the icon above the EV graph on the left of the screen changes to indicate that the Fn dial is now the control point and it does, indeed work to change the EV. However, I believe that in addition to manual exposure and aperture, you also have your ISO set manually. Unless you use AutoISO, there is no exposure compensation adjustment. EV is not a fourth exposure adjustment, rather it adjusts one of the three exposure variables (aperture, shutter and ISO) to make its adjustments. When all three are manual, there is no setting that EV can control, and the dial reverts to film simulation selection. I hope this helps.

I'm planning to buy a camera next month and am confused between Fuji xs10, sony a6400 and a dslr like canon 850D. 1) is it worthwhile buying into a dslr system when every company is focussing on mirrorless? 2) is mirrorless the way to go for someone who is more interested in photography than videography? Thank you in advance
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. 1) There remain several advantages to DSLR style cameras - primarily in operation. In quality, they are equivalent. 2) While mirrorless is clearly favoured for video, it is less so for stills, as the optical viewfinder can be a faster and more accurate way to see the scene before taking the image. I heard it doesn't have a good grip and is a bit hard to turn. 3. Is there enough room between the grip and the 16-80 so the back of your fingers don't touch the lense?

Thanks for the kind words. Good questions - but you really need to hold the camera yourself to make sure that it meets your preferences. 1) I found this a better balance than the X-H1, and about equal to the X-T3, X-T30. It did not inadvertently take images, nor did I find it too hard to get either the soft press or the release. 2) Yes, it's easy, it's exactly right for me. 3) It's very tight, and there is always contact.

I'm buying a new camera very soon and my two options are the xs10 and the xt3. Not gonna lie, I like the xs10's ease of use, ibis and flip out screen. But my main goal is the best video quality, so my question is, is the 4K 30 10bit that superior from the 8bit of the xs10? I won't be using any external recorders and I think with the fujifilm pict.profiles I could avoid heavy grading. Less time in front a pc, and more in the action, is always a plus. There are reasons I don't do that. I don't get to review all cameras, and those judgements may change over time - so if in this video I told you that I preferred one model, that may change within weeks when I review another. As my videos are viewed for a long period of time (often 3-5 years) I don't feel that my judgement three years ago would be valid today. Hello Maarten: I have used your video settings with no problems on the X-S10. Still having issues with the manual mode though: the exposure compensation adjusts automatically. Would you know why? in looking at other reviews, there has been complaints about FujiFilm's menu being complicated. Do you know if the X-T4 is easier since there are more dials? Is it a little more substantial in built also? This is my first mirrorless camera from a Nikon D700. I wanted to go lighter which is why I went towards a APSC camera, also I wanted a camera being close to the size of the old film cameras, such as the Nikon F2, 3, 4.. I'd recommend custom white balance, which allows you to capture and save the correct white balance for any scene. Like AEL or focus lock on the shutter, it only locks while the button is held down. But that is an interesting request - that the assigned key toggles from hold to on/off.

Very good video/tutorial, it looks like a great camera, but I’m keeping my X-T4 with the XF 16-80 (Hahaha). Always great to see you Maarten. Stay safe.

La X T 4 es de lo mejor que tienen ahora en Fuji. Yo tengo la X100V ( que tiene el mismo sensor de la tuya ) y para llevarla siempre conmigo es fantástica... Viva Boca!!!

LAST ONE : :) i found the x-s10 very noisy in very low iso. over 400 its suprisingly bad and creats a lot of noise. i had before the old ex2s and it way much better. also the low 80 iso is noisy - how is that possible ? i feel i am missing something regr=arding the camera althogh i shot with her different and many session and i am not a begginer.....wonder if you have thoughts on the subject

Although I happily admit that everyone's reaction to noise is different, I found that the X-S10 was quite good until 6400.

hi again :) .....still learning the camera and couldnt find the option dslr's usally have to check the images taken for where the focus point was...usally on dslr's it was a req squere showing on the displayed image....i it possible feture on the xs10 ?

I don't have the X-S10 here to check, and there is no display option to activate or deactivate the focus point display. Possibly, if you have large display option on, that option over-rides it? Otherwise, press the joystick and the display will zoom in on the focus point (even if it's not displayed).

@ 6:19 Hi, can the ISO selection animation be disable? Thank you.

As far as I can tell, it cannot. And I'm not sure why you'd want to - in manual exposure it provides visual feedback for the setting. However, you can access ISO setting from the main menu, which is not an overlay on the scene.

Hello, I'm wondering if you know the write-speed of X-S10? From my research it seems it supports UHS-I, but those same articles recommend UHS-II memory cards. Trying to sort out what's true and not spend extra money on write-speed the camera can't use. Thought I'd go the man with the details.
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 3 жыл бұрын
The fastest is for 4K video - 200MB/s. An SDXC UHS-I card U3 (the 3 is inside the U) is all you need. Buy a good quality card though.

Does Fuji X-S10 has the same HDR 800 Plus feature like the X100V, XPRO-3 and XT4?

hi. i shoot in jpg+raf and was wondering if there is a possible to get in a raf file in lightroof the same prossecing as the jpg and then continue on shooting..the jpg's looks great but i still need to make some changes afterwards and was wondering what could be a way to simulate them. thank you :)

Interesting problem. You might try X-RAW studio, but it might not offer the range of options you'd like to change.

Why do you use lossless compression? I found it make the image size larger. I heard it will help some raw processors to work effeicntl but i don't see difference in ACR.

I have no clear rationale, I just don't feel that card or disk space is valuable enough to bother conserving.

I set mine to lossless compression and they were not recognised by On1 raw or Photoscape. On 1 says they are working on it.
