It is nice Fuji built this functionality into their X-mount cameras. Top-mounted dials are nice when the camera is on a tripod and the photographer has a top-down view of the controls. But when the camera is up next to your face, the command dial controls - as well as using back-button focusing via the AFL button - is absolutely essential. Setting the controls this way helps make transition between my Canon and Fuji cameras easier to manage.

Great video and very critical in regards to accessing the ISO settings without the quick menu. This was the last deciding factor for me between the X-T3 and the X-T30. Chasing my kids in and out of the house while trying to take pictures in many different lighting conditions, a hardware ISO dial is essential for me 😀

@@litespeedga with the settings you mentioned above, try this extra step...go to menu > wrench icon > button/dial setting > command dial setting > set #3 on the front command dial to exp comp. when you press in on front dial, you should have access to exp comp now. It works on my XT4 at least. Let me know if it works...

thanks for the comment! yeah, I really like the aperture ring, but sometimes I like one handed manual controls. Also, lenses like the XF 18-55 don't have markings, so it sort of defeats the purpose of the Perture ring.

How do get shutter priority with aperture ring set to command?
@vjsingh034 жыл бұрын
Very useful video. Since you have 35mm f1.4 lens, you must be using it with this camera. I wanna ask if you feel really limited with only 1/4000 shutter speed when using wide open 35mm F1.4 lens on or, do you prefer switching to ES, which I guess has its own limitations? I have seen many photographers avoid using it. I mean the whole advantage of 1.4 version of that lens is seen when using it wide open but I really curious whether 1/4000 shutter speed plays a significant role in limiting the magic of it. Looking forward to knowing your experience.
@themagicallandscape4 жыл бұрын
vj singh Hello, thanks for the question! I don't feel limited with the 1/4000 shutter as I am normally not shooting in light that bright. I mainly use it for indoor snap shots at the moment with shutter speeds much slower than 1/4000. I guess if I found myself shooting a lot in mid-day or really bright light, I wouldn't mind picking up an ND filter. Cost shouldn't be too bad as the filter size is 52mm. I love the lens, great combo with the smaller 23mm f2. 🙏
@ozwrangler.c3 жыл бұрын
If you don’t want to be limited, there’s an option to set ‘MS and ES’. Only switches to ES for faster SS

I am just wondering if you can use the front dial as a shutter button to take photo, or if not able to can we use the fn button to do so? Thank You
@themagicallandscape4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe that is possible. Only the shutter button or a remote can be used to take the shot.

If the lense aperture ring is on a value, does the command dial "over ride" the value? Which one has priority? Which general use lense do you recommend for the xt30? The 18 to 55mm. For a serious amateur would you recommend the xt30 ii or the new xs10?
@themagicallandscape3 жыл бұрын
The aperture ring will override the command dial. The 18-55mm is a great first lens, covers a nice range, has OIS, has good IQ, and has f2.8 at the wide end. I would go with the XS10 if you don't mind the fully articulating screen.

is it possible to set everything via touchscreen ?
@themagicallandscape4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. Right now, I think only ISO can be set as touch. I have that set as one of my swipe functions and it works very well. Go to menu > wrench > button/dial setting > touch screen setting > touch screen setting ON and Touch Function ON. Then back to button/dial setting > Function Setting > set one of your T-Fn settings to ISO.

If you set the front command wheel to Aperture, can you still set it to auto aperture by spinning it until it passes the max aperture number or something? Or do you have to go all the way back to the menu to disable it to get auto aperture back?
@themagicallandscape2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can switch to auto still. Spin it past the highest aperture, f16 or more and eventually it gets to auto. Spin it back the other way to manually select the aperture.
@ftj82793 жыл бұрын
If I don’t set the aperture ring setting to Command (left it at Auto), can I still adjust the aperture from the command dial and the aperture ring? Thank you!
@themagicallandscape3 жыл бұрын
I think of you set it to command, you can use the dials. Then if you want to use the aperture ring instead, just spin it and it overrides the commnd dial (if using a lens with marked aperture ring). If using the kit lens with unmarked ring, you have to physically change to aperture instead of Auto on the lens.

@themagicallandscape4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...not sure on the XT200, but sounds like you are still in auto ISO. Play with the dials before hitting record and the ISO should be changing if you are in manual.

be careful though.... I had a huge issue with an easy fix (after a few mental days...) It is great BUT it messed up my P and S mode, I couldnt enter it because of these settings. Fix: go to Menu / Button dial setting / Aperture ring setup (A) and set to AUTO!!!! It was on Command, and as soon as I set on Auto, it immediately changed to S-mode. Now P is available too.

2:16 - never use anything but number 1! Pressing this button ring happen very easily and you can change i.e. ISO accidentally. Thiis the one of the two biggest disadvantages of this camera - the second is the Q button :(
