FUJIFILM XF18mmf1.4 - Long term review after 2 years

Nice video! I love this lens! My experience with it has been pretty similar to yours. The close focusing distance, ability to to get nice subject separation from a wide angle, color rendering, quick autofocus, super sharp - all make it a joy to use. The 18mm f1.4 and 90mm f2 are my two current favorite lenses from Fujifilm.

I lucked out and found a used copy at my local camera store for 3/4 list price last year; it’s almost always on my camera or in a bag with me when I’m out. The 1.4 primes might be larger than the Fujicrons, but to me they’re the perfect balance of size, weight, optical quality, and low light performance.

I shot with this lens in London, Paris, and Cancun earlier this year, and it quickly became my favorite lens. You're right about knowing how to use it, though; that focal length requires some thought when shooting with it. The image quality is really good, too. That really comes in handy when cropping.

I really want this lens, but the mfd of the 16mm has me undecided. I like taking pictures of the odd "bee on a flower" scenario when hiking, not sure if there is any other way of getting any closer with this lens.

I heard some a while ago, they updated a firmware that would change the algorithms for the better on the wide angle lenses.

Great video! Which other lens would you use this with as a two camera body set up for an indoor venue for wedding reception?

Hmm 2 might not be enough. Maybe 18/56/90 can be a good combo or 18/33/56 depending on the venue

I have this lens but recently got the 23mm. Both are great lenses but different enough to consider one over the other. How would you use one over the other? The 23mm allows you to get very close which is great.The 18 mm for me can be to wide except when I want a wider shot.

Hmm personally I am not a fan of the 35mm focal 😆 Nothing wrong with it but just a personal taste. I tend to stay away with focal that sre so close to each other, which is why I own the 18/33/56 primes

You can fake 23mm with a pretty minimal crop on the 18mm, but you can’t make the 23mm any wider.

@edvard2942 ahah yeah testing out some MF lenses for some projects I have but yeah hopefully this AF is fixed soon… hopefully a new firmware in September I dare to hope…
