the essence of a photograph is its stilling of life, our lives. we rush here and there, in a whirlwind of things and fads and pressing tasks, the photographer walks the tracks or films the commission and then performs the miracle of stoppage, of capture. thank you, Mark Forbes, for your ability to see what should be caught, and to catch it just right for us. a very fruitful discussion, and superior photographs of subdued color and bright sunlight and daily scenes. you are Great

Mark has been a muse of mine for quite a while. And interestingly, many photo books I have don't quite live up to the digital versions online in terms of quality of the image. But not Mark's. His book is so well produced, and the images so captivatingly real that it is the one that I reach for most often and hope someday to produce one that perhaps even touches his. So great to see this interview for greater context. Thanks, Tomasz!

Just ordered the book! Mark's approach/subject matter and mine are identical in regards to that incredible feeling when light, geometry, color etc. all align to provide a remarkably soul-satisfying moment that prompts the click of the shutter. I began photography in the midst of a severe depression that very nearly took my life. To say it's a miracle to be alive is an understatement. I walked countless miles seeking out THESE kinds of shots. Each one I found helped to restore my mind and soul...one click at a time. It's very refreshing to discover someone like Mark who feels like a kindred spirit in the way we see, feel, and shoot. I'm very much looking forward to receiving the book. And THANK YOU, Tomasz, for all the tireless and remarkable work you do for the photography community!

Love Forbes’ photography. I love the colours and the lack of people. Waiting for a person to walk through a scene has become a cliche and I like how he avoids it.

@@_markforbes_Cheers Mark, it was an absorbing interview and I really appreciated the way you reacted so "normally" to the questions. Also I have a rolleiflex 6x6 which I'm taking out of retirement so it was interesting to see which filmstock you've been using. Thanks again.

@@_markforbes_ Interestingly, I'd also been looking for many years for the right Rolleiflex at the right price. While I would have preferred the 3.5F, I found, very recently, a 3.5B at a shop near me for a very fair price and bought it. Really happy with the results so far, but I'll have to send it in eventually for a CLA for the slower shutter speeds (which I understand is a normal issue to have to deal with). One thing I know is that I felt immediately connected with the Rolleiflex. I'll still keep my eyes open for a 3.5F, though, but I'll keep that 3.5B as well.
@_markforbes_3 ай бұрын
@@notoriousbdpfantastic - great pickup. Yes, always good to give them a CLA if things are not quite right. Enjoy! 😊
