Let me start by saying that I’m not a professional photographer, I’m on my first digital camera (X-T2), I just do it for fun just like I did with film cameras for many years. I don't know if it’s possible to love a lens, so let’s just say that i like it a lot (LOL). I got this lens (XF 16-80) three days ago and so far my experience has been 100% positive with street photography, landscape and portraiture (I don't have any interest in video). Please keep making videos in English, great channel. Subscribed.

Re-watched this to re-kindled my feelings about my 16-80. I do like it but love the size and quality fo the Fujinon primes, and mine are the 2.0s. But in a group situation the zoom is nice to have. Anyway, thanks and I miss your videos in English 😢

What a mature review. I agree with everything you say about this lens. I have been waiting for Fuji to bring exactly this focal range zoom with weather sealing and it has not disappointed. I ordered it early and received it by accident the day before release in the UK. Absolutely delighted. It is sharper than expected, colour rendition leaves the 18-55 behind and the balance on the X-T3 is great its as if the two were designed for each other. This would apply to the previous two models of course. I have tested every Fuji lens apart from the 90mm and 80mm and this new zoom punches above it’s weight. Look forward to more of your relevant comments in the future Subscribed!

Gary Manning Thank you very much, Gary. I owned the 90mm f2 for portraits a couple of weeks (but kept the 56). The 16-80 to me seems to be on par with the 90 for this but offers the much greater versatility of course. I will try to do part 2 of the review about portraits...so stay tuned. I appreciate it!

thank you Jayshooter, love your enthusiasm and photos. I absolutely love this lens. Using it on an X-E3 (grip on the way). I have been able to pull off 1/2 OIS shots but typically would use 1/15th as deffault lowest shutter speed. The color, contrast, smooth bokeh, close focusing distance, versatile range,aperture dial and stellar OIS all combine to create incredible performance.

It is a very subjective matter. For me personally, the overall impression of a picture is more important than the sharpness around the edges. But yes, I think the IQ is great for the focal range the lens offers.

Hallo.

I prefer the 18-55 because the initial aperture of 2.8 in conjunction with the OIS is important to me. Last year I bought the 18-135 for my holiday. I am really happy with the results, it has its weaknesses with Low Light. The 16-80 is of course also interesting, but I would see it only as a supplement, because I use the 135 more often than I thought.
@Jayshooter_photo5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your setup. The 16-80 is my one-lens-only choice for travel and cityscape. The 18-55 is still a great lens of course, except for the issues I explained. I don’t have experiences with the Fuji 18-135 but I prefer a continuous f4 and do not need the great Tele range.

hi, very nice video. I myself am always amazed by the blazing knife sharpness of my 10-24 f4. And I can have this lens glued on my camera an entire week of travel. Do you think the 16-80 lens is equally sharp?
@Jayshooter_photo3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but I don't have enough experience with the 10-24 to compare, cause I had it for a week or two. and yes, it is ridiculously sharp and I don't think, the 16-80 is on that level. But the focal length ranges are really different, so a comparison seems a little unfair to me. ;)

So was denkst du im Battle zwischen 18-135 und 16-80mm? Beide WR, die eine 5 Stops, die andere 6 - mehr Brennweite oder der Stabi. Focus kann ich nix sagen, unterschiedliches Alter. Used fast same price. Für mich soll es eine "Videolinse" werden, mit der ich auch, wenn ich nur mal Eine mitnehme ab und an photographiere.
@Jayshooter_photo3 жыл бұрын
Moin.

Great review, thank you! One quick question - as far as tripod detection is concerned - does it only detect proper tripods or only "proper" ones? I ask this because in would be unfortunate if it switched OIS off when placed on something like a Gorilla Pod, which is very useful for things like vlogging where you definitely need OIS
@Jayshooter_photo4 жыл бұрын
I can’t imagine that the lens is able to recognize a small handheld and moving Gorilla tripod as tripod. I am quite sure that this won’t be a problem... thx for watching!

I am gonna buy the xt3 with the 16-80mm this weekend. Gonna use it for travel. Thanks for this review. Would 16mm suffice for landscape photography?
@Jayshooter_photo5 жыл бұрын
Eric Chng Thanks, Eric. I am not an expert for landscape, but something between 14 and 24mm is used very much for it. But on full frame! And with the 16-80 APSC we are talking about 24-120mm here. So, I think if you want to use it for landscape exclusively it might not be wide enough. Then maybe the 10-24 R OIS would better fit your needs. But if you want something more versatile from landscape to e.g. portraits (and even „macro“) the 16-80 is a great choice.

Brilliant and honest review. Here you have a new suscriber to your channel. Without having tested this lens particulary, but having watched every single review, it seems the lens has some lacks and cons due to its natural design for all around use and compact size at the same time. Other than that, Fuji should have wait and not sent yet for testing the pre-series units. I'm neither a pixel peeper but I saw some awful results in some test and some other fine results, so apparently there seems to be some inconstancy in their quality inspections, based in the huge different results from different copies. I'm lucky that I can't afford this lens at the moment, so I'll wait until I save some money and luckily Fuji will fix those issues meanwhile, because I really appreciate the focal range and size this lens offers, especially for long hikes, since I'm mainly a nature photographer. I wish you the best luck with your channel. I'll look forward to watch more content as good as this video.

The 18 to 55 mm f 2.8 - 4 OIS is a great all around lens. What you point out are non issues for me. It's light enough to be appreciated by those who carry their gear around for long periods of time.
@Jayshooter_photo5 жыл бұрын
I agree with you absolutely that the 18-55 is a great lens. For me, however, the larger focal length range is the main argument for the 16-80. Additionally it solves my (minor) issues regarding the switches and the aperture ring. So no Real und blaming of the good old kit lens from my side. I recommended it in my first hands on of the 16-80 by the way. 😉

@Jayshooter_photo5 жыл бұрын
I think you meant the 55-200, correct? I don’t have experience with this one. But you loose a lot in the Tele range, but get back a lot in the wide angle and the continuous F4. If you don’t need the range from 80-200 I can highly recommend the 16-80.

Thanks for this practical and insightful review, most appreciated, how would you rate the 18-135mm in terms of image quality vs the 16-80mm? thanks.
@Jayshooter_photo5 жыл бұрын
I have to admit that I have no experience with the 18-135. But it is a lens with all the problems that an even larger zoom range has in connection with the image quality if you can believe most reviews. But it is also a somewhat unfair comparison since it is relatively old (2014). But you also read about a lot of people who really like the lens, especially for its versatility. Go and test it yourself! ;)

@@Jayshooter_photo Hi Jay. I had a close look at your RAW files taken with the 35 and the 18-55 - as I own the same lenses - and compared them to the files taken with your 16-80. Picture are quite similar with a slight difference depending on the chosen aperture. Sometimes the centre sharpness is better, next time the sharpness in the corners is better. All together a nice result of the 16-80. At shorter focal length f4 is sharper, at longer focal length f8. Sometimes I can see slight abberations, which I cannot get rid of in Lightroom or an old version of Photoshop. By the way: There is something wrong with the picture ot 18-55 f8 @ 55mm, it´s very soft. I have noticed some inconsistant results with my 18-55, not often but it happens

@@Jayshooter_photo Nikon has 16-80mm f2.8-4 with price more than 1000 euro for DX crop sensor. I'm owner of this glass also. I have Nikon D7200 + mentioned 16-80mm combo and it's start to be little bit heavy for me, so I'm looking for something smaller, probably Fuji X-e3 with 16-80mm as a kit and 35mm for portraits. Lukas Látal Thanks for your comment! As I said in the video: Try out the 16-80 on the X-E3. For me it’s a little too front heavy, I would still recommend the 18-55 with this one. And I have to confess: I sold my X-E3 for an X-T30. There was an offer on Black Friday at a local Camera store, I could not resist to get it for 670€. It’s less stylish (I love the X-E3), but there are too many advantages for me in the X-T30. I will hopefully give some insights soon.
