I remember hearing this for the first time in middle-school, back when I was still new to Vocaloid. Miku's old V2 voicebanks still sounds lovely

on Mikus 10th Anni there was an interview that featured numerous old vocaloid producers such as Neru, pinnochiP, etc. And celluloid by baker together with melt was a recurring song that the producers claimed inspired them to make their own songs with vocaloid. Personally I didn't grow up with this song and I first heard it recently but you can immediately tell that it's inspired tons of people. The song has such a genuine sound and even if I don't understand the lyrics it makes me emotional simply cause it's a song that drags you back in time. It's a beautiful PV and song and I'm so thankful it exists

Do you have a link to the interview by any chance? I'd love to read their thoughts
Wow! KZbin just recommended this song to me, 16 and a half years after it was uploaded. This is one of the best Miku songs I’ve ever heard. I'm a new subscriber, and I hope you get many more 🙏 Thanks for creating this song.

bakerさん、I don't know if you are still active using this account because your last upload is from 5 years ago, but I want to tell you that I really love this song. It has become a special thing to me. Thank you very much for creating celluloid. Your music has reached someone far, far away from Japan. 💗

I just woke up from my nap and remembered this song... for me it's been 10-11 years since I heard this song and it brings back so many solitude memories. I love this song 😭💕 2023 here and it's still so beautiful
泣きたい時、聞きにきてます。今も、心の支えになってくれる曲で、ずっと感謝してます。 I come to listen to this when I'm sad. Sometimes, much more than lively pop songs, it makes me feel like the song and lyrics cheer me up like a friend just coming to sit next to me and listen as I cry my heart out. This song will always be in my heart. Thank you so much. この曲と出会って何年も前なのにずっとコメント残さなかったのは今更感だけど、ずっとそのままが嫌だからこれを機に残したいと思う。本当に、ありがとうございます。

As I dive into older vocaloid songs it's struck me some kind of nostalgia that I haven't experience it but felt so similar
I discovered this song some time ago and it struck something in me. I enjoy how Miku is tuned in this and it fits for how heartwarming it feels.

TRANSLATION The past always will be far behind us, but You're standing here, and I'm standing here We're anxious about whats at the end of the road Our tiny voices are stifled on the way When the air is cold and the rain seems like it'll never go Our hearts are heavy with words that we've said As long as we can keep walking, light will shine through to us, though I don't know when The colours I had have faded and I've been wanting to tell you That theres no significance to it Even though the dawn no longer comes, and I cannot hear you again I'm still hoping for the day that we can truly smile again Anything that changed gave me just a little faith That maybe it's not utterly in vain No matter how long it takes me, I'll keep looking Though I don't need things that are of no use We no longer go through days that have nothing valuble to share But the nights are more frightening than ever When the morning dawns over the world, it'll be something you cannot see What makes it true? Recently everything's been the same, and I'll make myself keep waiting And I know no one will help me but As long as I can keep on living, then I can also keep dreaming All of these deceptions are echoing for no good reason at all The breaths that I take are getting shallow Everything that's happened is all my fault but There are things that I still want to hear There are things that I still want to know They're the things I only could watch before The colours I had have faded and I've been wanting to tell you That theres no significance to it Even though the dawn no longer comes, and I cannot hear you again I'm still hoping for the day that we can truly smile again

What an excruciatingly beautiful song. It almost always makes me cry even though I don't understand the lyrics because the melody and vocals are so profoundly evocative, and the pain behind them too honest not to be felt, regardless of the listener's language. Eleven years later, Celluloid remains a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.
