Hi Ruth, Thank you for hosting this webinar! My question is regarding Fulbright state sponsored scholarship applications. I think you have pretty much answered my question in this presentation, but I wanted to seek a little more clarification. The state sponsored scholarship asks me to describe how my proposed project will bring specific benefits to my particular field of research and how this will benefit my State. I wanted to ask how tangible the outcomes/benefits of my research need to be at this application stage in order to make a good case for receiving this scholarship. I understand that if I could point to specifics and/or measurable outcomes this would make for a stronger application, but is it possible to take a more speculative/philosophical approach to this question? For example, is it reasonable to say that I don’t know yet what the specific outcomes might be, but that I see my research being applicable in ‘X’ area(s) and that I would expect to have a better idea of how I might make my ideas a reality once I’ve completed my research in the United States? Thanks in advance for your advice, Grace

Dear Grace, Try to find a balance between concrete, tangible outcomes that may be unrealistic or difficult to accurately project, and generic, unspecified outcomes that don't demonstrate your commitment to making a real contribution to the field in your State. The Selection Committees understand that some research fields are dynamic and projects may evolve over time, however they will be looking for some evidence of real-world impact.

Do you have to be living and working in the state CURRENTLY to apply for state specific scholarships? What if you worked there recently for a long period of time but have just moved to another state, but your commitment is to return to the state?

Dear Ida, Yes, you must currently (at the time of application) live and work within the State that you are applying for in order to be eligible for the State-sponsored scholarships.

If I would like to apply under both professional and senior category where exactly do I indicate this? (on-line form or written document)?

Dear Shumi, As you fill out the online application form, you will be prompted with options for which scholarship categories you would like to be considered for.
