I like how the skulls turned out. You don't always know if you're looking at a piece of a dead person, or just a rock, and that adds tension.

That is an interesting point you make and I do agree with the ambiguity you get with that approach. My overall goal was to give the illusion of a skull floor at a pretty low price tag and I’m very happy with the results. I guess the added tension can go into the happy accident category :D

Agreed. You could probably add more "texture" to the bone floor by adding broken off pieces of toothpick into the mix. To give the impression of a mix of bones and skulls.

It's already a work of art! The cork stonework looks so good, and the skull and bone ossuary is incredible. I'm adding the Paris Catacombs to my travel plans. Can't wait to see what's next!

I have to admit I've never been to Paris and its catacombs. The pictures alone are spectacular. I really would love to go there sometime.

I've had containers full of loose foam balls (meant for crafts or something, I think) sitting in my hobby supplies for years now. I might need to try making skull piles with them. I even have some spare Wargames Atlantic Skeleton bits, to improve the effect.

I would love to see a necromacers tower you could set ein with multiple layers, maybe it can replace 4 derelict buildings, by snapping in with magnets.

Obviously we can expect some really cool end result again. As I understand you'll put some building on top? Theoretically, you could add more removable dioramas under the part with the catacombs, right? Like in Diablo or Durlag's tower in Baldur's Gate or something like that. That way you could extend the playing area in depth if you're already limited to 40x40 cm and make it creepier and more hellish with every level.

Have you considered using UV paints so you can have secret patterns, grafitti, runes or other icons that only show up under a blacklight? That seems very thematic to this piece, especially in the sewer section.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! I’m not the biggest fan of the epic scale and much prefer the 28mm scale. But I love the idea of smaller boards. Necropolis is an amazing combination of my preferred scale and this much more approachable board concept.

Ohh my you are absolutely right! It's not plywood but MDF. The 'plywood' is a remnant of an earlier script :D
