This is a step-by-step "Play Along" guide on Dyson Sphere Program, 2023 Proof. Blueprints included!
This episode: Blue Science & Mall!
This run will be focused on
- Explaining all the details
- No Spaghetti
- Easy to use layouts and blueprints
Blueprints supplied! (Tech appropriate, based on latest update)
SEED: 2834 8053
This playstyle is extremely organized and will very effectively scale towards endgame, and in my humble opinion, very optimized.
It is definitely not the only way to play, so I encourage you to try things out for yourself as well!
Don't forget to like the video if you find it useful, and subscribe to see the rest :)
Dyson Sphere Program is currently in Early Access and updated on a regular basis. Despite being in early access, it is extremely polished and complete, so I highly recommend you checking out the game if you are a fan of Factorio, Satisfactory or other building/management/factory games.
I am not sponsored in any way - Just a big fan of the game.

After having walked up and down my own 1000km version a few million times I was so annoyed I folded in it. Then I felt stupid for not designing it like that in the first place - this is so much more convenient, AND easier to place down without foundations. Glad you liked it too!

Im new to the game, only 10 hours in. And wow I have not done shit. Havent mathed out anything, some stuff just happen to be overproducing while other stuff just happen to be underproducing (mainly energy matrix, which is as far as i have gotten). Most of my belts look like pretzel. And I am crafing every builing by hand. Including the pretzel belts.

I'm new to DSP but an experienced Factorio player and was looking for exactly this... thanks! I especially love your initial base that you set up upon landing, when you hook up iron, copper, and coal to produce the basic intermediaries. I think it took me 2-3 hours to create a giant spaghetti mess that you neatly and compactly fit into what looks like a 6x8 grid 😆

Nice beginner vid. Spacing out those m.coil and circuit assemblers unnecessarily (you can fit a power pole between assemblers) hurt my soul though. And then going on to build large scale blue production feeding research placed too closely to prevent future red/yellow/purple/green belts rendered this a bit meh. A "Master Class" would have allowed for that.

Which are the "right ones"? Thank you.

Hey there! From the blueprint library, for the mall you'll need "Early Mall (Part 1 of 3) and the next 2 parts of course. They all link together, forming the mall shown. To get these in your game, just go to the website and select 'copy to clipboard'. Then ingame, open a new blueprint, and click the 'paste' button on the righthand side of the interface. And you're good to go!

Highlly inefficient program I have been placed into, and I could never serve to benefit from learning in this program as the leads, moderators, specialists, etc. have shown to be incompetent and not knowing how to handle me. So, I singlehandedly learned the in's and out's of everything and showed them the brilliance that was trapped by their false reality and environment.

Really neat layout. Going to give it a spin a new seed soon! One thing, though. Sorters and belts Mk1 are used in the upgrade to Mk2. So you may want to reconsider the placement on their storage to be easily accessible for the coming upgrade. The upgrade from Mk1 to Mk2 is extremely significant, while the Mk3 belts are only really needed for the Casimir Crystal setup (due to huge hydrogen needs) and the Fractionator circles. Great narration, and very good layouts for us neat freaks spaghetti haters out here! :D
@TheDutchActuary

I typically just skip from MK 1 to MK 3. You're right that you don't really *need* MK3 in many places, but I can't be bothered to carry 2 different types around and/or think too much about what goes where. There's no downside for using the faster ones (assuming you're not playing on very low resources)

The logistics bots were a *godsend* for me, when they came out. A downscaled delivery drone system, what goes from storage to storage. A wonderful way for someone like me to eliminate spaghettification from my game. Now I have a mini Corusant instead! I'll take a cloud of drone traffic all day long over endless belt sphagetti.
@rescues_greyhounds
@rescues_greyhounds 11 ай бұрын
Stupid question. I have the logistic bots, but how do you get them to actually work?
@davecrupel2817
@davecrupel2817 11 ай бұрын
This explanation is made under the assumption that you've researched the bots and dock/distributor thing. You need to set up the distributor things the drones fly to and from. You do this by placing them on a storage unit. Or a stack of storage units. (It caps the stack though fyi) The best use of them is to put one on a storage unit that's receiving a supply from somewhere. Like miners or an assembly line. Then you click the distributor, and select the item you want it to manage. If you have items in the attached storage unit, the distributor will automatically select it upon placement. Now here's where the options come in: Do you want it to _distribute_ that item to other hubs? In this case, with the distributor hud brought up, next to the item you click the little slider and make sure it's blue. It will say "Distribute items to other places" or something to that extent. After that, you just build a couple of drones, put them in the fill slot like on an ILS, and you're all set. It will do the work itself from then on. Just make sure you have the power available to keep the drones powered. This is the only drawback to using them. Unlike belts, they consume power. Do you want it to _receive_ that item _from_ other hubs? To do this, you do essentially the same things. Except the slider i mentioned has to be switched from blue to orange. And it will say "recieve item from other buildings" or something like that. Build a few drones, put them in it, and the hub will do the rest. Do you need it to supply your own inventory? Yes this can be done. AND it can be done at the same time as either of those other options. In the distributor hud, above the slider i talked about, there's another smaller slider. Blue option is "send items to icarus." Orange option is "recieve items from Icarus." And it also has a middle option (this is the default) that lets it send OR recieve items from your inventory, depending on what your demands are. You also need to set up the logistics in your inventory. When you pull it up, on the left is the logistics spot. Check the logistics box up top. Then in one of the 2 colums, click a spot. Click the item or building you want either supplied to, or removed from, your inventory. It will ask you for a quantity. This is how much you will have when the logistics are done. It will either add to your inventory untill this number is met Or it will take away from your inventory untill this number is met. Depending on how you have it set at your distributors. Hope this helps! These bots are super handy little guys. But if you dont like crowded skies, you wont like using them en masse like i do. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions!

Great potential of a video, but honestly has the basic concepts slightly wrong. Power supply to buildings is completely off. Keep using wind turbines in a grid pattern. then build inside the grid pattern. His works, but it totally under powered. so every will run at a snails pace. The item mall concept has 100 percent approval . try to have one factory or smelter to one item. not feeding into 2. Usually keeping things straight is much better. no angled sorters.
@TheDutchActuary

I actually mention to keep an eye on your power supply for exactly this reason - most of the power is just built off screen because watching me put down dozens of turbines isn't very interesting ;)

I just realized the math in this game is weird. The recipe is 2 per second and the assemblers move at 75% speed so logically that should be 1.5 per second...but when you look into the assemblers themselves it states they are making 45 items a minute. 0.75 items per second. Based on that then you actually need 8 assemblers to make one full belt.

I don't understand the reasoning or lure for a mall like that, especially for a new player. I would rather have a few stacks of each base material and craft on my mech on demand instead of having to travel to a specific part of the planet and find what I need amongst more than a dozen separate storage units. The mech will automatically assemble from base materials and it's much easier that way. Also, later on when you get drones, you can keep those base materials topped up on your mech.
@TheDutchActuary
@TheDutchActuary Жыл бұрын
That also requires you to keep producing those buildings on your mech manually. Once you start scaling up, it's not going to be viable for your mech to keep up with the production of all these buildings & belts and most importantly: you'll have to babysit that production as well as you need a lot of different things. The mall takes all of that out of the equation, and restocking becomes a lot easier. And with the addition of drones you do exactly what you describe, but instead of topping off the materials you top off the stacks of buildings directly. At that point there is zero effort required from your own mech. In short: It's just more efficient :)

Before I had to stop playing recently, I started a "super seed" play of sorts and then spent 2+ days to fly to te edge of the system. At one point I left the game run overnight for a 7hr FTL to reach a jump point. With the new update that is out. Do older save games have the combat update or do we need to restart?
@TheDutchActuary
@TheDutchActuary 7 ай бұрын
To my knowledge you'll need to restart. The old saves basically work exactly like a new game with combat disabled.

Helped me with a few things starting out but im looking for explanations and reasons for doing things, not just placing and saying "there it is, copy it". Guess what im asling is if there can be a more in depth tutorial, explaining why you do certain placements and how itll effect you later in the game.
@TheDutchActuary

In terms of ' later in the game ' the answer is ' not at all. If you stick with this for a few more episodes, you'll see that once you get access to other planets you will completely change the way you build. In my older playthroughs (also on this channel) I showcase various other styles of play you might enjoy. If you're looking for a lot of indepth design explanations, you might enjoy the 'Perfect Ratio Run'. It's a bit older but might be a good fit for what you're looking for. (That said, I am considering making a new beginners tutorial because honestly, I think it's about time someone made an updated version!)

A bit of a more advanced question about late game: What is more efficient? 1- Total compartmentalization of planets with each one doing its own thing depending on the main resources available, with as little interplanetary exchange as possible; 2- A central planet producing and researching everything you need, with all the mining and smelting done on different planets with a lot of interplanetary towers bringing stuff in. I'm asking because I tried n.2, but I can't seem to have the towers keep up with my production chains...
@TheDutchActuary
@TheDutchActuary Жыл бұрын
You'll never fit everything on 1 planet, so (2) is not going to work. However, you could definitely get close to that if you take a similar approach but with a few planets. But as you said, you'll definitely need to make sure you have enough logistic vessels supplying. I would suggest going for something a bit more like (1), if mainly for the reason that it will allow you to save your framerates a bit longer by producing whatever you can locally.

I started playing two days ago and I just got the point where I am completely lost so I decided to look up a short tutorial on how to progress. Compared to what I set up for automation, I look like a toddler playing with rocks. My production and conveyor lines are so complex and disorienting that I'm frequently getting lost in my own build. I think I'll go ahead and use those blueprints lmao.

Strange as it may sound, I would highly recommend you make your own blueprints unless you get stuck/burned out. My first factories were a spaghetti hell as well, and personally I got a LOT of satisfaction & fun out of improving it every time!

Doing first mall is always a bit of a problem. I remember my first spaghetti lines in Factorio... I've almost quit playing the game then, haha. Everything looks neat in your build, I like it. Could you name what is being produced in this mall - not asking about smelters, but just assemblers. Im still early in the game, and while I could copy your setting, I'd like to know what is actually needed in this stage of game.
@TheDutchActuary

I'm actually producing every building you can build from the blue technologies (with the exception of the power towers, as I usually only build like 3 of those for a long time). You pretty much need all of the production/mining buildings in fairly large quantities, so makes sense to just automate all of them. It helps that they all need similar inputs.

@@TheDutchActuary Thanks for answer. It makes sense. Meanwhile I've tested Your hub from blueprints... so yeah, I've lost some fun on constructing my own (on the other hand: what kind of mall can person construct during first gameplay?) but it was worth it. It is really very well designed. One single flaw - maybe not even a flaw - is that warehouses are inside of the area. Ive noticed that our mecha has many problems walking between buildings - seems that pathfinding is not that good in details ;-P. But it doesnt matter, since everything works smoothly. I think that I will try to do it on my own next time - just to have my own idea inside the game, of course. I would try doing a big "C" instead of yours "U" with all storages placed in "C" line and easy access from one direction.

You don't need to run up to the storage units, you can access them from a bit away. Having them in the middle makes it easier to access them all at the same time. Even easier: Put logistic distributors on top of them and have the materials fly to you :D@@failsafe123123

I actually have a tip for that starter set up you got there. Don't use belts for the research facilities. It takes longer for the items to reach the destination and start crafting which means there is some downtime, it also requires more sorters and belts using slightly more resources and power. Because of the space being used by the belts it's also less compact. On the other hand just directly inputting the items from the assemblers or if you want the chests is enough production to support 2 labs producing blue jello. Or if you want 1 with extra production to stock the chests. Though to meet copper production I suggest putting 2 sorters into the copper furnace since it's farther away from the ore. Overall just directly inputting the items into the lab uses less resources, is more compact, easier to destroy and clean up without having a bunch of random material flood your inventory and overall is just better. Also after getting the blue jello research steel smelting first. I highly suggest starting basic foundation automation as soon as possible. The sooner you get it and the longer you have it running in the background the more foundation you'll have to fill in the oceans as you're expanding. It's seriously amazing. The early game is alot harder without it.
