What I love most about Voces 8 is the transparency of their sound -- you can clearly hear any part you want just by focusing on it. GORGEOUS unison and chill-inducing harmonies. I loved your reaction, too! Thanks for taking the time to show us the score as you're analyzing -- you're a great teacher!

I am a new subscriber, and not musically educated at all. What drew me to your channel was the Nightwish and I, of course, hope you examine them more as you have barely scratched the surface of what they are capable of. But, I enjoyed your analysis of Phantom so much that I decided that I would give this a try, even if it is way out of my wheelhouse. Never heard of the song, never heard of the singers. I enjoyed every minute of it. The song and the voices were so beautiful, and so moving. And, while I admit that a lot of your analysis went way over my head, I kind of expected that, with my lack of background. That said, I did learn, and to me, if I learn one thing, I come away happy. I think I'm going to stick around for more.

It is so refreshing when you listen to music that is about something different than the highest note all the time.

Once again, I have learned a lot, here. When Voces 8 performs this piece, all of the angels in Heaven stop what it is that they're doing to listen. I haven't been to Toronto in a while but, the last time I was there, I stuffed myself at The Old Spaghetti Factory. One of those fish you spoke about was swimming upstream during a break in vocal practice when she ran into a concrete wall. Right after running into the wall she turned and shouted something. What did she shout? DAM!

Wonderful analysis 🥰 I‘ve been singing this piece so many times and I‘m always astonished by how different it may sound depending on all these little choices one makes, not least the tempi 😄 May I suggest for you to discover Aaron McDermid‘s „Carissimi“? We just probably performed it maybe first in Europe, but at least in Switzerland! What a great composer ❤

"Where charity and love are, God is there. Love of Christ has gathered us into one. Let us rejoice in Him and be glad. Let us fear, and let us love the living God. And from a sincere heart let us love one. Where charity and love are, God is there. At the same time, therefore, are gathered into one: Lest we be divided in mind, let us beware. Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease. And in the midst of us be Christ our God. Where charity and love are, God is there. At the same time we see that with the saints also, Thy face in glory, O Christ our God: The joy that is immense and good, Unto the World without end. Amen."

Yesss, Voces8 is just so good. Ethereal is the word I’d use for their music. I lived your fish analogy, that really helped me visualise things. Would you consider reacting (or just listening!) to their version of the Requiem by Faure - my absolute favorite of all requiems

Surprised you haven't analyzed Forestella yet. Quartet from Korea, crossover genre. They have basso profondo, baritone, leggero tenor and countertenor in their group, with two trained opera singers and one musical theatre singer (countertenor has no formal training) and they are fantastic. Some of their more popular are Nella Fantasia, Bohemian Rhapsody, Bad Romance, but they have several and they're all good. Cheers!

Would you consider doing this type of video on a non-professional choir? Like a school choir or a random cathedral choir?

Well, their second alto is Barnaby Smith, the director; he sings countertenor.
