Thank you for your time, as usual it was very informative

Thanks for taking the time to make these videos Payo. I am more interested in your Otter videos, as that's the scanner I currently have, but seeing the difference between the raptor and otter is cool!

In the early version of the firmware, I couldn't even go pass the front tire. Now you can scan with Otter as large as you want, but need to keep drifting/plane twisting in mind.

@payo I gotta say for me since owning the otter, the experience hasn't been the smoothest. I feel like mine struggles with tracking really badly, and anything black , its like it's invisible to the scanner , but in some of your videos (scanning the scooter) it picked up all the black things /seat first pass. My machine is i7 9750 and 64gb ram with 4gb graphics card, the performance test tells me I'll get 27fps with the otter (more than the spec sheet advertises 20fps max) but I reckon I'm lucky to get a solid 10-12 fps at best , sometimes it drops down to like 5fps. Scanning anything decent takes a lot of work, my white motorcycle fuel tank 40mins single scan the result is great but I don't feel like it should take 40mins when you can scan a whole car in 7mins with the same scanner I was hanging for the new update but it hasn't fixed my experience unfortunately, is there's something I'm doing wrong or do you think my unit might be a bit faulty ?

i7 9750 that's 5 yrs old CPU. What's your graphic card? Otter is one of the fastest and smoothest scanner but you need fast PC. multi core CPU and Nvidia RTX GPU

@@Payo-TensileCreator yes ok, I have GTX1040ti, which is a shame , I bought this over the einstar as my machine met crealitys recommended specs for it

Great video. I would suggest your magnetic extended markers for the corners as well so the scanner can see it turn around the edge. I definitely agree with your scanning strategy you laid out at the end. Is there a good reason the otter does not have a global marker mode. Would be very useful. Seems like a software only feature.
@Payo-TensileCreator9 сағат бұрын
Otter tracks very well in this test. It doesn't show any sign of struggle when I turn around corner. I think the issue is the accuracy in the depth of the scanned surface. It slowly twists the planar surface along the travel length.
@ironmikeharrington8 сағат бұрын
Yes I guess you are right, corners are not the issue. In that case I wonder if markers going over the roof just to establish another corner just so that you are not scanning a flat plane may help in the future, but I think following your scanning path strategy will still be the best technique. The problem is It’s hard to have the patience to always do it :)

You could lock your screen rotation to Landscape using the phone controls. On android, you can create a routine that does this for you automatically every time you launch Creality Scan. I've just done at and it works fine.

that definitely needs to be fixed thats a wild drift.. being able to do global marker on the otter would help though i imagine
@Payo-TensileCreator8 сағат бұрын
I think the planar surface is gradually twisted along the length of the scanning, could be the error detecting the depth of the surface. XY looks alright, but Z axis is not.

Edit: You covered all of the 3d scanning techniques. At 7:20, could you scan both back quarter panels first? Do the same when creating global markers. :)

There has to be a way of scanning the whole car with the otter without such a large ''drift'' or ''twisting''? Creality's own website advertises a full car being able to be scanned and that is one of the main reasons for me getting the otter. Being able to do large and small scans. What about scanning the roof as well so it has more points to connect the side of the car with? It's difficult finding any other videos or information about these large scans with the otter since most people just scan one side or the hood or rear bumper and rarely the whole car.
@Payo-TensileCreator9 сағат бұрын
Dividing into 4 scans/car is still too large for Otter, I'll try 6 scans and reduce the travel length, see if the scan can be merged.

I would like to see a comparison between the raptor and the raptor x, to see if scan time is the only benefit for 2000+$ more.

I made a video here with Raptor original kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmLPe6GNbpWGosUsi=_8j4GvB8Unna7Nhl&t=138 I used 700 markers with Raptor X, Original Raptor would need 4x more = 2800 markers.

I fear that your video is going to make me get my wallet out again! I've got the Einstar, original Raptor and the Otter, and I've just ordered the wireless bridge. However looking at this video, it shows the reason I bought the otter (to scan vehicles for reverse engineering using large mode) is not overly suitable. In your experience, would the RaptorX replace the need gor owning the original Raptor, Otter and Einstar for reverse engineering of small and large vehicle parts, scanning engines and vehicle parts? Or if you had to just have two scanners out of the four which ones would they be? Thanks for all your videos so far, they are by far the best for any of the Creality series of scanners!
@Payo-TensileCreator8 сағат бұрын
If I can have 2, I'd pick Raptor X and Otter. Otter is best for quick scan without marker. There's prove now that Otter can't scan large panel accurately, Raptor X seem to be the only choice. I never seen anyone made full car body in a single scan before, mostly done in parts and merged. I'm quite surprise that Raptor X can do this.

The most difficult part of this video is taking the markers off after scanning.
