Hi guys, I finally finished mighty hood . First of all, I made it in a full-hull version, but I'm going to add a video of making a sea base later. Thank you!!

Well, for my own part I reckon the Repulse was just a bit more beautiful... but not by much. And her lines weren’t ruined by the “Queen Anne’s Tower” superstructure the rebuilds were given, like Renown.

Absolutely amazing work. I thought I could make models in the past (when my eye sight was still up to it) but this has shown just how basic my skills were. Being a member of the HMS Hood Association, I am always eager to see great models of my favourite warship. Well done.

It's a couple of years old now but I am just seeing this finally. Truly beautiful modeling and weathering... When I began modeling back in the early 70s, such detail was a dream, for we were lucky to have even a decent base model with which to work. Your decking, weathering and techniques are superb. The laser cut masking would be worthwhile, as well. The etched metal parts were a great addition to my model railroading and when I saw them added to other modeling pursuits, I knew that results such as this would be where they led. Great documentation makes this all the better!

Excellent build! In answer to your question regarding “weld lines,” I believe you are referring to the plating on the lower portion of the hull. Hood definitely had this. Unfortunately, when we were assisting fly hike with the details for this kit, we did not have the original plans for the underside (They are in poor condition and are awaiting conservation…we failed to order our copies before this happened). So, that’s why it’s smooth. Of course, someone could always later obtain those plans and approximate the plating. Speaking of the underside, we have found (in official docking records) that Hood probably never had a red underside. She was listed as having a grey bottom (and the wreck still has a dark greyish bottom in places). I know it’s too late for this build, but hopefully others will see this and paint her bottom grey. Again, excellent work as always (I loved your “Invincible” build too)!

In conclusion, Flyhawk made a big mistake. I thought it would have been perfect with the advice of the Hood Association. I'm sure they had their own reasons. I know that the color guide should be painted with blue gray, but it is dull to make it a display model. When I add the sea base later, I will paint the gray color .Thank you for your answer.

@@studioblueocean4590 I look forward to seeing another of your EXCELLENT sea bases (you are a true artist)! By the way, I am the primary H.M.S. Hood Association representative who assisted Flyhawk. I would not say that Flyhawk made a mistake, but rather, chose to err on the side of caution: They (and we, the Hood Association) simply did not have enough detailed information for 100% accurate bottom plating. Rather than guess what the plating layout was, Flyhawk felt it was best to release the model with a smooth bottom and leave any extra detailing to the modeller. Our association was unable to provide the bottom plating plans because we ourselves did not have them (the original plans are on @2.5m long linen panels stored at Woolwich Arsenal and are currently not available for duplication: they are over 100 years old are are very fragile (brittle) from age and years of handling. The plans are currently awaiting restoration and conservation…but the National Maritime Museum (which owns the plans) budget is limited and there are many competing items). Of course, the rest of the model is extremely accurate and up to date, so, even with a smooth lower hull, it’s still the best model of the ship ever released in any scale. Thank you for building a very accurate rendition of our dear old Mighty Hood, and I look forward to seeing the sea base. Again, you are a true artist!

Hood had degaussing lines running around the entire hull (added to the ship during her yard period from March to June of 1940). Those may be the "welding lines" to which you refer.

A beautiful build and finish! 👍🏻👍🏻 I ordered two of these, one Deluxe and one ordinary and if either of them end up anywhere half as good as this, then I’ll be very happy indeed! One thing and I almost hate to say it but the Hull Red colour is incorrect. Eyewitness accounts of her sinking have always referred to the lower hull being “black”. The reality was that it was dark grey (anti-fouling grey), although a lower layer of paint was indeed black. Not that it particularly matters, as the red does enhance the overall look of the model! 👍🏻👍🏻 Thank you for uploading this video! ❤️

Earlier this year I started making the 1/700 Trumpeter version of the Hood, with a special Flyhawk detail set that included turned brass and a wooden deck alongside photo-etch. Even with the detail set, the out of the box Flyhawk Deluxe Edition is light years ahead of the model I would have ended up with in terms of details and accuracy. I'm currently waiting for my Flyhawk Hood to arrive as despite the progress I've already made, this is the version I want to display on my shelf. And if I can complete it even close to as well as the one shown here, I'll be very very happy.
