Wow CT, what a nerve-racking sequel with that torsion bar & spring plates in the 17° angle drama, OMG; After that baby powder I thought you'll have to change diapers, luckily for us you did well, now don't forget your new tires, good show.

Now we’re talking! Your slightly extended absence has been worth it! Re the spring plates; if they’re resting on the stops you can’t control the angle. They’re just resting there. I believe the angle suggested in the manual is when they’re loose to adjust the tension they will be when resting on the stop. Spot on on the talcum powder for the rear spring plate bushings; just like the factory recommends. Love how thorough and methodical you are when putting things back together; a whole lot better than seeing you tear things apart 🤣😂. Fantastic job! Re the body I suggest you rework the bottom and underside of it where it meets the pan, also under the wheel wells, etc before you put it on the chassis. You can then install it on the chassis and when you decide to paint the body you won’t need to work double by taking it off again. Makes absolute sense.

Setting equal angles off the stops gives you equal preload on each torsion bar, car will sit level (side to side). Height of rear of car depends on how much preload. Angle on stops doesn't matter. Nice work CT!

@Vayabroder is correct. Also, you need to measure the angle on the untensioned spring plate when the frame is properly leveled. The page you show at 19:42 has the section titled "To set spring plate" that explains how to do it with the body attached. I'm sure you can adjust as necessary.

I was a old time VW factory trained mechanic and I can tell you replacing spring plates can be frustrating, kind of like a brake or gas line fitting that won’t quite go on , if you walk away have a coffee it usually goes right on or the mechanic next to you will put it on first try, been there 👍😄🎩

Wow. You have really started to figure this stuff out. I started off watching your videos saying "don't do that" or "noooooo". But now I see you nailing it!. We are all learning. I have a '67 Ghia that I am slowly restoring. A lot of what I have to deal with are PO mistakes. Whomever picks up this Ghia next will have much less problems thanks to your high quality work. Very interested in the final alignment work as my chassis has ride issues.

Hi. I have seen the trouble that you had with the degree from these swords. I did it very clever. I marked it different when i disassembled it. I removed the 4 screws from the lid. Then very easy hits with the rubber-hammer against the sword until its just only released and jumps off. Not more! Until it just jumps off from the stuck. Then you mark a line paralell to the sword with a metal-cutter, into the metall with the 4 holes. Just a line parallel to the sword. So its marked in its released serial position. But the teeth inside and outside the pipeline should of course not be out completly. Just only a bit that the sword can only release. When you assemble it again and you want the serial position you dont need to count the teeth. Just stick it in parallel to the marked line. And if you want, you can measure now the degree. Later on, when the sword is up again on the stuck, of course you will always measure 11.5 something, because the position is always the same. The degree you adjust only in the released position. I m german. I hope you could understand my bad english.😉

Sweet! Don't be afraid to use locktite on those large bolts and it's always a good idea to use a click wrench for torque. If you're not sure and w/o specs as a rule it's usually 100nm for 18mm bolts and 55nm 16mm.

CT, Congratulations from Germany...!! WOW! I love it to watch all your videos and they "send me back" to the 80ies, when I jobbed with 19 at a small gasstation, bought an old rusted bug cabrio from 67 for nearly nothing, together with a second chassis to change... My boss said: OK, you can use the garage in the evenings, but in 3 month all is done, promised?.... Oh my goodness! If I would have had a clue, what it means to restore it .... And unfortunately I hadn´t that time to do it, like you. Finally the bug has got complete new papers, the Manufacturer "Volkswagen AG" was deleted and in the new "Manufacture-line" stood my name (!) and the name of my boss (because of the chassischange).. I was proud! And it runs a couple of years until I unfortunately had to sell it, because of my studies. But my restoration was miles away from what you did!!! When I watch your videos, I would like to make it once again! But unfortunately I have no time and place to do it... Well done, CT!! Looking forward to the next videos! (Sorry for my bad english), Cheers, Stephan

WOW! What a beautiful looking chassis or foundation, or whatever they are called. Baby powder is now 100% corn starch plus a fragrance. Although you probably have a life supply now, picking up corn starch at the grocery would be a lot cheaper. Those slots in the front spring plate mounting are to allow caster adjustment, also known as king pin inclination. With used car prices soaring in our present economy, you might consider selling the restored car for working capital??? Whatever you do, you can sure be proud of it!

I have dozens of pan off resto jobs on type3. Bugs. Busses. Notch backs. Fast backs and built a few vw based kit cars over 30 years. I bet I have painted over 100 air cooled vw. They are the easiest and cheapest car to restore. My favorite was putting rx motors in them. The busses were great for putting pinto. Rx and Subaru motors in. It gave you great power. Good heat and air cond. I always wanted a split window bus with a mercedes turbo diesel motor with front and rear heat and ac. Perfect combination . I miss the days of restoring vw.s

So nice to see you making progress on the same vehical. I know you are anxious to get the body on but you may as well get the bodywork done first and put it together when done. Just lean the chassis over by the wall and get the body in the turnstile if you have one? You have a welder so you can make one. Just convert to engine stands
