Nothing beats the OT for MIDI sequence performance. I use this same process with my JU-06A. It rarely takes me more than 10 minutes to have something that sounds like a track. Love this.

Thank you. I wanted to ask if it will work with JU-06A and saw your comment on top. I've read somewhere that JU-06A sequencer is not polyphonic and was not sure what does it mean.
@jeremyallen282111 ай бұрын
@@alexg8233 you can sequence chords (Polyphonically) with external polyphonic sequencers such as Octatrack, Hapax, DAW, etc….but the internal sequencer on the actual JU-06A unit is limited in this endeavor (at least to my knowledge).

Nice one. Octatrack works amazingly with any other synth allowing sequencing different MIDI channels, control changes, and patches ;) I am lately using a similar technique not just for making tracks but also to even run whole live set using an Octatrack mki and another synthesiser...not having to take a lot of instruments helps a lot when touring, but also helps learning to be much more creative on our day to day basis. Good stuff.

10:19 Just a dumb random thing I learned awhile back is that you can get a delay effect with just the SH01a using the LFO (speed), saw wave form, VCF mod (depth), and the Envelope release (length). Best part is that because it retriggers the note you can play 1/2 steps without it sound discordant.

the monophonic Evolver desktop is able too. It has 4 oscillators, 2 DCO and 2 digital waveform osc, 4 sequencer tracks and a specific organization of its 4 LFOs that could be used as sequencer. there is a patch that plays the "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics melody, that's all without any extra recording or fx, just using each OSC as an individual instrument

great vids man! i have a question on the Cmin scale quantization: if you select a note like C# on the Note page that isn't in the Cmin scale, does the OT transpose that note to the nearest note that is in the scale? I thought the quantization only applied to the patterns you make on the Arp page, but I could be wrong...

Big fan of such a simple and focused approach to sequence writing. Thanks for sharing! I’m try this using a ‘poor man’s’ version of this setup, using an Elektron Model: Cycles to sequence the SH-01A. For some reason though, when I change the pattern on the M:C, to progress through the sequences I have recorded. It changes the Tone Preset on the SH-01A!? If you have any insight into settings I might need to change, I’d love to hear it? Cheers ✌🏼

Is there some video how you use your REVOX R2R ?
@Slowlyburnedelectronics Жыл бұрын
Hi! Your videos are always an inspiration. Could you please elaborate how you split the voices? You set in poly mode the SH and then you use different midi channels in OT sending to the same midi track in SH?
@ryanhursh6322 Жыл бұрын
They all go to Midi channel one. In reality it could all be done on one midi track since it’s poly but with different tracks controller each of the 4 voices separately, this gives him ease of programming the different voices, muting particular voices without effecting the others and he can change the pattern lengths of each as well of each to create polyrhythms. All voices will be treated with the same effects however due to the single stereo out of the Roland.

I suggest not calling auto-scaling "quantize". Quantize is a term widely spread for decades that is tied to the function of automatic nudging the "loose" the note/gate to a grid in a beat/bar. I understand what you want to say with "quantizing" in C min, but you might find bunch of people confused. Transpose would be the word, so, if the scale is set, regardless of the note played, Oktatrack scale algo is transposing midi notes to correspond and fit the chosen scale. Please take this as constructive criticism, I love your work, appreciate your workflow, Vermona and chain effects, because i have all this gear more less and i love seeing how other people approach using these. Fellow Perfourmer MK2 Fan:)
@OoraMusic3 жыл бұрын
That is a very good point. I actually agree with what you say but I heard many other using the scale quantization term so I though it would be clear. Thanks for explaining that to mE!
