Thank you, Dennis, for making my father's retirement Divine. He'd had season tickets since just after the war. He grew up hearing his dad talk of the '30s team. The '71 Double had been his highlight and then he gave up his season tickets in the mid-80s after a Gooner got stabbed by a Sperzer at the NLD at he thought he didn't now want to take me and my brother to the games. But post-Hillsborough he got a North Bank bond and 2 more season tickets. He retired shortly afterwards. And DB10 made my Dad {RIP} happy because he saw us play the football his dad always talked about with Drake, Bastin, James etc. We went from Boring, Boring Arsenal to the sexiest footie this country has ever seen. And it was all down to Dennis. Yes, we had TA6 and the back 5. We had Overmars, Bobby and Freddie. The incomparable PV4. And he had IWWW and Titi up front with him. But no Dennis, no sexy Wengerball. Fact. Thank you, Dennis, for making my beloved dad, John Newman, happy in his final years.

People keep saying and will keep saying about great Bergkamp goals, that Newcastle magic, the Leicester show, the Argentina goal (probably greatest goal in history of world cups) - and rightfully so! But for me Dennis not only was a top notch striker, he was also an excellent playmaker. He was always assist-minded and his passing was precise and right in time. Our Unbeaten legend could've been ruined if not for Bergkamp's incredible passes in the last game vs Leicester. Go watch that game, you'll be enchanted by his assists. A sublime striker and a selfless attacking midfielder with a perfect ball sense, Bergkamp was way ahead of his time.

I saw DB10 slow down time. Against Juve at home, roughly 5 mins left, DB10 had the ball on the edge of the box with two defenders around him. He dragged the ball this way and that for what seemed like 15-20 seconds, and then a third defender came. Then another defender came and for another 15+ secs, DB had the ball at his feet dragging it about. In the North Bank, we were just staring at the ball at DB's feet. As were the Juve defenders. Then he flicked the ball through for Freddie who's run had been missed by us and by the Juve defenders. I thought it had all lasted about 30-40 secs. But when I looked at the video recently, (3-1 from 2001/2) it was only about 5 secs.

@@VinzentDk I know what you mean. But the thing fr me was that the game was years before we had broadband and YT. So I'd seen the goal live and talked about it loads. {My dad [RIP] had spoken to my brother about it, and then me and my beloved went down to my parents for dinner the next day. My dad said "I hear you saw something magical last night.} But I didn't watch a replay online until about a decade later. I was so shocked that it was only a few seconds when I thought it was more than half a minute. Verily, DB10 was like the supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy. He literally slowed down time. I've seen some pretty magical things over the years. But I've never seen any other player warp the fabric of spacetime like that. Henry obviously scored 226 goals for The Arsenal so he is probably remembered more now but people who know their football properly appreciate the phenomenal talent that was Dennis Bergkamp. He's my favourite player of all time, not just for The Arsenal but in general, it's hard to explain but Dennis was just mesmerising to watch on the ball. The closest player to him now for unbelievable natural talent is Phil Foden, he's actually very similar to the Dutch wizard in my opinion.

I started to have interest in football when I was 14 years old in China, my classmates or friends who liked football only knew Man United, but even no one heard about Arsenal, because there were so few foreign football games on TV as nowadays in China. Several years later til 1997, Arsenal came into my eyes with their playing style, which was so special, fresh and delightful. And then I became a fan of Arsenal and particularly Bergkamp. IMO, Dennis Bergkamp was the best footballer half-striker(forwarder and midfielder) with so wonderful skills and assist initiative. Just think of the passes and assists to those team-mates, Wright, Anelka, Overmars, Adams, Ljungberg, Vieira, Henry, Wiltod, Pires, Reyes... Thanks a lot for DB10 making so much fantastic and legendary plays and moments in the football history!

Not necessarily. We didn't win the Uefa cup final in 2000 when Bergkamp was still in his prime. I had the privelege watching/growing up with the great Ajax teams of the 90's. Eventhough i'm a FC Twente fan, it was always a joy to watch Ajax play with phenomenal players. Then there was Dennis Bergkamp, who instantly became my idol as a kid. He was different at Ajax than at Arsenal, From a profilic, pacey goalscorer to the perfect number 10 with a tactical vision that is second to none. First touch was out of this world. To control a ball is one, but to control it in that particular way that your next move is 100% guaranteed because that ball is excatly where you wanted it to be. His time at Inter was a waste of time for him. Wish Arsenal picked him up earlier. One of the best and the best i've seen playing live. Pure class and a joy to watch. If Wenger would've let him play in that CL final in 2006, Arsenal would've won. Never understood why he kept him on the bench...

This man is a true Arsenal legend, it makes me feel sick thinking about who is wearing his shirt these days, not fit to spit shine DB10's boots.
