YES! The cast iron skillet, the very heated oil, etc. is exactly how my sweet mom always made our yellow cornbread. 🌽 Mom was born and raised in Pineville, KY. Sadly, she passed away in 1987. I make a few things the way she taught me. ❤❤❤

People in SE Kentucky (and most of the South) heat bacon grease in the iron skillet, not oil. No flavor in oil.

My grandmother made the best hoecakes and biscuits. Foods can evoke good memories.

I make your Herbed cornbread recipe weekly well I change the herbs and add cheese and jalapenos but I make it different every time and I double it. I have a huge cast iron pan and my son eats most of it LOL. We love bread of all sorts lol. I can't wait to try the Lace Hoe cake looks amazing!!! Love you Ms Paula 💝 Thank you

My Mom always used a glass to cut her biscuits :) If I could go back to the days when I was a kid, I would appreciate so much more sitting on the porch stringing and snapping green beans with My Mom and Granny.

I love this show. This episode made me tear up....I remember my Memaw from Hope Hull Alabama making those lacy hoecakes. I poured Karo syrup on mine.

LOL, I was just looking for a cornbread recipe to have with ham hocks and navy beans. This pops up. Not exactly what I was looking for, I wanted something like jalapeno cornbread with some freeze dried peaches. My son asked for the ham hocks and beans for his birthday. He loves peaches. So, hey, let's try it. 😁😁

Oh, that is a difficult one. I was not reared "Southern," but lived in Alabama most of my life. I didn't get interested in finding out about truly Southern food until I married a *very* Southern gentleman. I had to ask a friend to teach me how to "do Southern." If I had to choose, I suppose it would be biscuits. One can do so much with them. However, my husband dances a jig when I make cornbread, so my real "Southerner" would likely say cornbread.

Hi. I've been following you since I started watching food network. I learned that someone else likes butter just as much as me. I'm with you through whatever they throw at you. You'll always have me for a fan. Thanx for the fun times.

I didn't know anyone who made hoecakes like that. First of all, the batter is too thin. Way too much water. Everyone in Kentucky just fried them like a pancake. That glass plate thing is silly.
