Ivan Karp began his career in the Leo Castelli gallery, but quickly established himself as a major art dealer and iconoclast in the downtown New York art scene in the late 1960's. Known for his cigar chomping and wise cracking ways, Karp became an influential figure by supporting and exhibiting artists. His gallery became a gathering place for artist collectors and art world cognizance. Hear Karp's stories on SOHO when it was known as Hell's Hundred Acres which give us a glimpse of the earliest beginnings of what became a major art world phenomenon. Included are brief interviews with Max Kozloff, photographer and writer, and Walter Robinson, painter and writer.

So happy to have him take a look at my meager portfolio at the time, I think it was 1988-89? He said to me "You got something for me to look at Kid? Come in my office and let me see!" "Not for me Kid but there's 1000 galleries out there now you keep going I never forgot that day.
