Back in the mid 60's I was living and working in Manhattan and on Saturdays I would take (Round trip btw) the IND "Aqueduct Special" to the Big A from this platform. Greatest train ride in America, loved it

The last time i saw this part of The A C & E TRAIN LOWER LEVEL was the early 1970's . Coincidence i was just there prior to the Thanksgiving holiday not realizing what once was & is still there, amazing.

The platform had only been closed nine years at that time so it was still in decent condition. The single track was still connected to the downtown local track that ran to the upper level of the station so trains could be run through the station during the scene (which was done, although in the wrong direction).

The stairs were there up until the mid 90s I believe. I’m not sure exactly when the station’s lower level is closed but I do remember the stairs still being there and they just put chains over them. And then they actually close the stairs up somewhere around the mid 90s late 90s early 2000s I think.

Interesting. How many abandoned subway stations are there in NYC? In a weird way I wished LA Metro was old and big enough to have abandoned stations.😊

Rush hour E trains but the platform hasn’t been used since 1981 and it’s unclear as to why it was built in the first place
@thatdonkey7215 Жыл бұрын
@@E-man5375 I did some research on it. Apparently it was built more as a block to prevent the IRT from building the current 7 train west. When they were building the Hudson Yards extension, they had to punch a hole in this platform for the 7 train tunnel

I thought they used this platform for filming movies and TV shows. Whyt is it so decrepit?
@Shinycelebi6 ай бұрын
They haven't used it for filming in years. The 7 extension goes right threw it, so they don't have a reason to keep it nice looking.
