Very true, but it's also good to see what average and typical use looks like. There are also times when brand instructions or intentions are prescriptive (e.g. using liquid lips as liner isn't usually instructed) or just don't work (e.g. Becca Zero).

Emily, could we get more super close ups like you did for your nose in this video? You always look flawless from your regular distance, but I think it would be helpful to see how each foundation sits on your skin up close. Thank you for such an in depth review.
@DarkAngel711804 жыл бұрын
TheJollyFatElf it's not helpful. If you want to know how a product sits on your skin then go swatch it. Seeing it on someone else gives you zero indication of what it will look like on you because of our unique chemistries.
@karekausnicolli48904 жыл бұрын
@@DarkAngel71180 Swatching doesn't always provide an indication of how a product performs throughout the day. I appreciated that Emily took the time to show her experience. I don't think I could say it was absolutely not helpful, and Emily always describes what her skin issues are.
@TheJollyFatElf4 жыл бұрын
@@DarkAngel71180 #1 You can't swatch anything in stores because of the pandemic. #2 From where she normally sits, her face looks smooth and flawless. With her showing her face up close, we were able to see how the foundation sat on her face, if it settled into pores or lines. The foundation reviews that actually show up close skin are more helpful than those that are several feet away from the camera. #3 It may not be helpful to you, but that doesn't mean it won't be helpful to others, including me. I love how thoughtful and researched this review was. I love that you really try to figure out how to use products to get the best effect. I actually really love this line!! My top tips: definitely use fingers to blend blush and highlight. They just melt into the skin. And maybe try some lighter blush shades because they are definitely easier. :-) For foundation, i think you’ve almost found its sweet spot. (For context, I’m 35 with combination skin, definitely tending a little dryer with the change of season. And I LOVE the natural finish I get with this.) It definitely seems to need a hydrating primer/priming moisturizer underneath. And then the main key seems to be not to try to build it. Trying for anything more than light-medium coverage definitely brings out the texture problems. I think where you get the perfect fit is to use the lesser amount of foundation you first tried with your fingers BUT do it with a brush so it doesn’t fully melt the coverage away. And then don’t build on it. And go light with the concealer as well. And powder lightly, either with the powder puff from her kit or another light hydrating powder, like the hydrating mineral veil. I absolutely love the lip products too. I definitely prefer a mousse matte lip that can handle some touch ups, and the balms are soooo hydrating (although I’ve only really used the lighter shades of the balms.) I really do feel amazing with a full face of rare beauty. But it’s interesting to see how many people are getting such different results with it. It’s supposed to be super easy and user friendly, but it does seem like you have to experiment until you get just the right application technique and then it becomes a super quick and easy routine. But I should also say, I really don’t think the foundation will somehow magically work for everyone if you just keep experimenting enough. These are the best tips I’ve figured out, but like any product if it’s driving you crazy trying to make it work just move on to what you find easier or already love.

Thank you for that thorough and honest review! Oh my goodness, truly LOL when you started blending the blush on your cheeks😂😘 After seeing how the face primer and foundation weren’t meshing on your skin, I looked up the ingredients and the primer is water based but the foundation is not. In order for them to work well together they should have the same make-up....is perplexing that they didn’t think that through or test it more thoroughly🤔

Emily, thank you so, so much for all the extra close-ups and explanation of what techniques you used and the results. I always think that every skin texture and condition will experience complexion products differently, but there still seems to be almost a sheen of unwillingness to critique these products in most of the videos I've seen. I'm not sure what that's about, but viewers definitely want to know how you really feel about them, regardless of the brand creator. A++ for effort.

Have you tried putting a dot on the back of your hand and using a sponge to spread the product and then going in with the sponge to apply the blush on your cheeks? Might be an easier way to control it than dotting it on your face and then trying to blend it out.

Thanks for this review Emily! Initially, I had no interest in this line, but then I heard there were a couple lighter shades of foundation with olive undertones. Having a pretty fair complexion with an olive tone, I can never find foundation shades that match, so I tried this. I have to say that it is probably the best colour match I’ve ever found (I usually have to mix shades), but I’ve had the same issues you discussed. I’ve tried it with a couple different primers (Becca and Guerlain) and with a brush and sponge but nothing really makes it look the way I want it to, unfortunately.

Fantastic review yet again, Emily. Knowing you took the time to educate yourself on the essence of the products and their respective application is but one of the reasons you’re regarded so highly and why we love you so. I thought that perhaps you could try doing a complete monochromatic look with that blush you used in this video. I share your enthusiasm and love for blush and am proud to say that I’ve tried a few blush sticks bc of you. Liquid blush is my next venture and I think I may give this one a try. But the color you wore today, which was somewhat intense upon first application, looked beautiful (especially when carried across the nose)...one of those “rosy red, fresh, I’ve just come in from the cold” colors. Perhaps you could try it on the lids and let us know how it worked out? I can see that color really complimented your skin tone and thought it would look beautiful if placed as you would your “one shadow looks”. Have a beautiful night’s rest, stay safe and healthy and I’m sending much love from Canada 🇨🇦 ♥️🇨🇦 Ps. I’ve been saving and hope to get my hands on the Em cosmetics blushes and glosses you raved about. Keep up the amazing job. You are appreciated far beyond mere words could ever adequately express.

Emily! Love your videos as always, I have some suggestions about using the face products as I experienced similar issues regarding the texture. Foundation: I use a damp beauty blender and like a fairly damp beauty blender to blend it in, I dot however much I want all over my face and then blend in using a beauty blender, I do not set my face and I use a super hydrating moisturizer first as a primer in addition to my regular moisturizer. I personally use the milk vegan moisturizer but that is similar to Charlotte Tillbury magic cream in consistency in my opinion. Concealer: I just make sure my under eye is as hydrated as possible and I use a small amount of dots under the eyes 3-5 small dots I would say and I set with loose powder. Blush: I put a dot of the blush in the palm of my hand as I don’t want it on the back of my hand due to the pigment staining. I then use the Sephora pro mini red handled brush I think the airbrush foundation brush maybe number 55.5 or 56.5 I cannot remember sorry! But I buff the pigment of the blush into that brush and then dab it where I want the blush and I find it to work fantastically!! Overall I hope these suggestions help and I don’t reccommend the primer or spray I think it hinders the staying power!

When I do liquid eyeliner, I start out by drawing the line of the wing from the corner of one eye (the one where if you were to extend it, it would meet the end of your eyebrow), then I do that same little line on the other eye. After that, I go to the outer corner of my eye to start lining and connect that line to the wing, then do that to the other eye. Then finally, I line both eyes going from the outer corner to the inner one! This is pretty much always how I've done eyeliner and I find it makes it so that the wings are as even as possible. Hope this helps! It's basically the same as what you did in this video except I start from the bottom of the wing and kind of do both eyes at the same time.

As a person with Rheumatoid Arthritis I love it that she created the packaging specifically for handicapped people to be able to use them and open them easily. NOBODY IS DOING THAT!
@irmawranna4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it's not true. Somebody just put it on twitter, and we all believed it, but people noticed that you have to use considerable force to open the products. Finally Rare Beauty admitted that they didn't do the packaging for handicapped people. Jen loves revievs made a really good video about it

Thank you for being so real, as always, and showing us the texture & finish issues. I'd consider the cheek, highlighter and lip products (which were so beautiful on you, Emily) but probably nothing else. I recently purchased IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better foundation. I can't recall if you did a review of that product, but I really like it... especially with a face primer. Very youthful and doesn't accentuate texture and lines like the Rare Beauty foundation. And also thank you for drawing attention to the value vs. something at a better price point that performs just as well if not better.

Rewatching this before I place an order. Thank you for the review! I’d love to have another update with some of their newer products, tinted moisturizer, bronzer stick, loose powder, under eye brightner. ❤💕

I'm usually a brush girl, but I find that apply the rare foundation and concealer with a sponge works WAY better. it doesn't bunch up and settle like it does with a brush.

I have a similar foundation Dreamy Cover by Pacifica. It’s a unusual formula. It offers lightweight full coverage that doesn’t dry on your skin. It almost floats on top. It does crease in lines. To deal with that I tried powder. That definitely helps everywhere but underneath my eyes. There I carry a brush with the product on it and just buff it throughout the day. The Pacifica does not wash off easily. I also have issues with many lipsticks. They either turn a hot pink as they dry throughout the day or they leave flecks of dried lipstick on cups and even my teeth. It’s not pretty! In my experience men love the look you created today. Maybe that’s why Selena favors it!

I got the same shade of the blush as you and my skin tone is a touch lighter than yours. I was SCARED when I first put it on but I LOVE it now that I know how much to use and have learned the best application for me

Good, practical review of her line, with bonus distinctions between other products and techniques.
