It's always been irritating to me how hard people clowned on Zurdo for this performance. Yeah he got much the same schooling everyone else does, but at least he was the first guy ever to try to reply during his combinations and attempt to actually win an exchange - he even won one. Also, when is the last time you saw Bivol duck under a punch, apart from once in this fight? Never that's when, because that's like layer 17 of his defence. Zurdo tried his ass off, but he found the same problem everyone else does. The more ambitious you are, and the harder you try against Bivol, the worse you get lit up- so everybody drops their volume and secretly surrenders at some point. Beterbiev is a whole different beast though...I don't know who wins that one.

This made me question if it wasn’t a tactical error by his corner to have him play the waiting game. It made him seem unable to initiate anything. But he has the reach, the power and the speed, while Bivol has trouble reaching in between those long arms. More frequent bouts of attacks right from the start would at least earn him more points, right? But maybe his corner fears he can’t keep the necessary pace up for all 12?
