It was all about fighting a guy that was trying to play it safe. Caldwell was stalling the clock witha "Dominant position" but that alone, with No Advancement of said position is nothing in a fight.. The reff let them stay on the ground Way too long. .So I guess we could say that Horiguchi still preformed well enough to win with his ass on the mat and back against the cage..XD

what did Darrion expect when he just laid on him and didn't do any damage from round 2-5. Darrion needs to move up in weight , the cut has to drain him. Leave 135 for the shorter smaller guys. I bet Darrion walks around at 170 , it's stupid to cut that much to fight smaller guys

@@seanhickey1999 at the time, Kyoji was pretty young and up and coming. DJ was in his absolute prime and nobody could touch him. Not saying Kyoji won that fight if not for the last minute sub, but that he was showing DJ up better than anyone else in the UFC could do at the time. I was really impressed at how good Kyoji was at the standup in comparison to DJ because he made it competitive against DJ while everyone else usually lost pretty easily. It was too bad that UFC didn't keep him longer or Kyoji decided to go elsewhere. It's pretty clear that Kyoji was a special talent even back then in his loss to DJ.

I think Horiguchi can be ranked 1st or 2nd in the UFC bantamweight. What he should do is compete with tougher opponents and fight more often.

I think Horiguchi’s record should have one less loss. I thought he beat Tenshin Nasukawa. He has a lot of class in winning and in defeat. Very humble.

With the huge height and size advantage, Caldwell is an old fighter so even when he got his opponent down there's not much going on other than just giving Horiguchi a hug. That's not enough to win any fight. LOL

Horiguchi is special when it comes to fighting on the outside. It's fascinating how he makes a much taller and longer opponents to forget about their advantages. Another thing is, he uses his karate on the outside, but when he's in the pocket, he turns into a boxer with good head movement. If you look at his Rizin fights, you can notice that even grapplers who thought about out-grappling him changed their minds when he beat them in their own game. In short, I would put Kyoji somewhere in the top 3 of bantamweight division across all promotions EASILY.
