That's the problem w/ NIT Format style Tournament games on the Higher Seeded team's Home Floor vs the Neutral / semi- home court setup of the Men's Tourney; Difficult to win when it's 7 or 8 against 5; Makes it all the more Sweet when you overcome that bias to win, w/ the Home Team melting down in the process; No one should feel sorry for The Lady Hoosiers; they still had chances & they went empty on all of them; Oh well.
@mace112961 Жыл бұрын
Officials terribly inconsistent all night. Big contact on a couple IU layups - no call. Minimal contact on a couple Miami steals - foul called. Foul called on the Miami 3-point attempt with no contact. Offensive foul called on Miami when IU player was no where near set? All important swing plays for/against each team. All can be questioned. And all happened at a point in the game that each team still has time to adjust. And you can speculate all you want on the reason for the officials stopping play before the free throws, but what you can't dispute is the travel on the winning basket. 9:48 - 9:50 clearly set the right pivot foot, then reset both feet to jump on the shot attempt.

I have been watching the NCAA tournaments since the early 70's and this year at both men's and women's games, the refs have been absolutely biased for the higher seeded teams. Disgusting behavior from the refs IMO! Something needs to be done when there is so much money on the line. Got to make your free throws however. When I coached women's bb when they first started we won many games before the other skills became proficient due to our free throw percentages, which I correctly realized would make the difference. Both the NBA and NCAA do not take free throws seriously. Easiest shot in the game if you are mentally prepared. Great job Miami!!

Grace Berger is Indiana's top player and certainly its top guard. With the game on the line with 3.3 seconds left, seems odd she didn't want the ball in her hands and let McNeil have it.
@outchea1044 Жыл бұрын
Mcneil didnt even want it
@waldolydecker8118 Жыл бұрын
@@outchea1044 - Don't blame her...McNeil is not the star of the team, so she shouldn't have had it. Berger is the star guard who is suppose to GO DEMAND AND GET that ball with the season on the line. We watched Michael Jordan and every other team's best guard do just that when the game/season is on the line. The fact that Berger didn't go do that is telling.
@waldolydecker8118 Жыл бұрын
@@jerryjessup9192 - OK, shift the blame to the inbounder then, who clearly didn't understand that with the season on the line, the ball needs to go in the hands of your best player/guard. If the inbounder claims that Berger did not make herself sufficiently open to receive the pass, then the blame shifts back to Berger. Since you like to go back and watch endings, go back and watch the ending of any Chicago Bulls game with Michael Jordan where the game or season was on the line in the final seconds...unlike this one NCAA game, you will find several to choose from and EVERY time Jordan AND his teammates understood that the ball needed to be inbounded to Jordan and Jordan never let any defender stop him from getting the ball. Go back and look at those endings and you will see proof of what I am talking about. Berger making a token "look" at the inbounder clearly didn't get the job done...alpha players GO GET the fruggin' ball with determination; they want it in their hands with the season on the brink, and that's the way its suppose to be...win or lose. The teams had just come out of a final timeout...the play should have been already called to get your best player the ball. If the defense hits the ball carrier, your best player is more likely to get a foul called, which would have resulted in two free throws to tie the game. Allowing the other team to force the ball into the hands of a lessor player is what the defense wants. McNeil is a quicker dribbler, but with only 3.3 sec left, whoever got the ball would have no time to waste passing it, so it had to go directly to best player Berger. Maybe what we learned is that Berger is not as adamant as Jordan, Larry Bird, and other lead players who demand and insist that they get the ball in their hands when the game/season is on the line - to answer your question succinctly, THAT is what I am talking about.

That's the problem w/ the NIT style Home Court Format for the Higher Seed; It backfired in this game, but it's Tough 2 win when it's 7, or 8 against 5; Despite the growth, it appears the NCAA doesn't feel there's enough interest / financial support to set up "Semi" or 100% Neutral or Sites like the Men's Tourney: U could make a case that mentality is being lazy. Indiana, one of the teams I thought could win it all, despite all the Advantages & chances to win, melted; no one should feel sorry for them.
@danpals7678 Жыл бұрын
Nobody gives them that advantage, they earn it. I like the format because it gives David a chance to defeat Goliath in his own front yard.
@waldolydecker8118 Жыл бұрын
@@csracingreport2024 - Agree with you...had Indiana on the short list of teams to win it all. Problem is, the lesson learned here is that even on your own home court, the pressure of the one and done NCAA tournament and a team like Miami, Louisville, or Ole Miss, that comes at you with a tough, physical pressure defense and a chip on its shoulder to make a statement, can rattle teams like Indiana that are accustom to a more cordial, "softer" style of play. Even worse than Indiana is Stanford - a team comprised of all McDonald's All-Americans, but when they line up against a rigorous defensive opponent like Ole Miss or Southern Cal earlier in the year, their team can't even score 50 points. Like the saying goes, this is why you have to play the games - regular season performance is not playoff performance.

They would be playing in 3/4 empty arenas if they did not play at home sites. That's the sad thing. The women's game is a much more pure and fundamental version of basketball, but people still just don't support it like the men's game.
