They're only about a month old. Based in Burbank, they're running an ULCC approach. Selling tickets for a base price of $19. Of course, with any ULCC, that ticket can quickly get more expensive by adding bags, priority boarding, a seat assignment etc. Still, I paid for priority, a seat, and a carryon, and it was like $70. Still a good price for a flight from the LA area to Bozeman.

Funny, I was on my evening walk late April and I look up to see a plane overhead (I live in the San Fernando Valley) and I see that it's Avelo Airlines...and I was like "Is this new? This sounds international...when did Burbank become an International Airport?" Turned out I may well have seen the second ever flight of Avelo Airlines on approach at Burbank (The first had happened earlier in the day).

What do you think the future of Avelo holds? Is it going to become a reputable low cost option like Southwest or Westjet, an ultra low cost and cheapstake airline like Spirit or Allegiant, or somewhere in the middle? Or is it a pipe dream that ends again, like its processor Casino Airlines (or Airways?) did?
@sla31
@sla31 3 жыл бұрын
It would appear they're trying to have service levels closer to Southwest with the onboard product being closer to Spirit. So, it's may be a bit of both. I think they can succeed long term, but they'll need more passengers than they had on this day. Their three kickoff flights to Eugene, Phoenix, and Bozeman had a total of about 65 passengers. They didn't make any money on any of those flights. So, I think this is the best attempt we've seen from the Casino, Xtra folks. I hope it works. More competition is always good for passengers.

Good catch on California One and that C-130! Probably safe to say that Avelo didn't make any money on this run--with only 20 folks on board,the combined airfares probably were enough to pay for the fuel but add in the flight crews' salaries,probably not. A VAST contrast in temperature and scenery vs Burbank or even Joplin! After seeing this beautiful landscape,are you ready to ditch Missouri and relocate to Montana? Did you simply make a turn and fly back to BUR? Enjoyed the takeoff,particularly as were making that right turn and the power reduction was applied

Can someone please educate me about what the last letter and number denote? I have seen this with the Boeing 747-436 or Airbus A340-313 for example.
@sla31
@sla31 3 жыл бұрын
For Boeing it indicates what airline originally bought the aircraft. For Airbus, it indicates what engine type the airframe was ordered with. Before Boeing changed their system to just be a single number like the 787-8, each airline had their own customer code. For example, Southwest Airlines Boeing customer code is H4. So that’s why all 737’s delivered to Southwest airlines are 737-7H4’s or 8H4’s. I could be wrong, because I’m doing this off the top of my head, but I believe F2 is Turkish Airlines. If that’s correct, this 737 would have originally been ordered and delivered to Turkish Airlines. As mentioned above, Airbus uses the last two numbers determine which engine option was selected. For example, the Airbus A321-231 is outfitted with IAE engines, whereas an A321-211 is outfitted with CFM international engines. There are slight differences in those numbers based on the specific engine that was selected. But all 23... are IAE and all 21... are CFM.
@AviatorGamer
@AviatorGamer 3 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve heard it’s the company code so for example “36” may belong to British Airway “13” may belong to idk let’s say American Airline etc. Idk if this is 100% true, but that’s what I’ve read/heard before

When we are flying in an airplane, what happens if we don't have our phone or any hand-held device in airplane mode? Why should we put it in airplane mode?
@sla31
@sla31 2 жыл бұрын
Nothing will happen. The number of people who don't put their phones in airplane mode is probably higher than 50% at this point. Aircraft systems are shielded against interference however, some radio and phone frequencies are close to the same frequencies that airplanes use. It's simply another safety precaution that's taken to make sure nothing bad ever happens. But the simple fact is, that there are far too many electronics onboard planes in passenger's hands, bags, check bags, etc. I guarantee there are plenty of phones in particular that never get put in airplane mode on every single flight, every day. In fact, when I was learning to fly. I have my private pilots license, every single pilot I knew, including CFI's, CFII's, ATP's, etc. all used their phones, with their cell service active, every time they flew.

Yes. They are bass fares are $19. However, just like any ultra low cost carrier, you can add all kinds of things onto the ticket to make it more expensive. Priority boarding, checked luggage, carry-on luggage, seat selection, etc. When it was said and done, I believe my ticket was around $60 or $70. nice video, i have 2 questions. what equipment other than the iphone 12pro do you use and when editing do you pop the colours
@sla31
@sla31 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks my friend. I also use the iPhone 11 Pro, but they're basically the same. I also use Apple products to edit everything. I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro that I travel with. I use iMovie and Final Cut Pro to edit. I don't really use much else. I hold the camera by hand most of the time, including on this flight. I do have a RAM mounts suction cup mount that I use from time to time, but only on rare occasions. It's a pretty simple setup really. I suppose simple doesn't mean cheap since we're talking all Apple products. As for the color. I do pop the color on the thumbnails, but that's just to help them stand out a bit. Typically, I don't edit the color in anyway during editing. On rare occasions I will if the lighting is really hard, to help even things out. But typically no.

@sla31
@sla31 3 жыл бұрын
Well, that’s a tough question really, as a lot of it is simply personal preference. I’ll date myself slightly here, but I was in third grade, when our school got its first computer lab. Before then, each classroom only had one computer. The computer lab we got was comprised of iMacs. The old bulky ones that came in a bunch of different colors. So, since I was nine years old, and really started to use computers on a daily basis, Apple has been what I’ve used. I grew up using Apple in school, so I bought an apple when I bought my first computer, and I’ve bought Apple ever since. Now, I do use PCs. I don’t own one, but I use them at work, and I use them other places. Ultimately, for me, it’s really mostly personal preference. I simply love Apple products. I think they’re made well, I think they’re made to last a long time, and I think they work really well for video editing and that type of stuff. I do think that Apple products tends to be better for artistic or non-and analytical types of things. Video editing, photography, that kind of stuff. Especially the software programs that are available directly from Apple for those types of things. Think about it this way, I record everything for my channel on Apple iPhones, I then upload them directly to a MacBook Pro or iMac, and I use Apple software to edit the videos. It’s seamless from start to finish because all of the technology that I use was made by the same company. I’m not trying to get a Panasonic camera to communicate with a Dell PC, and the software driver isn’t working right so the files aren’t uploading in the right format, etc. And, to elaborate on longevity. You get what you pay for ultimately. When I bought my current MacBook Pro in 2015, I spent $3000 on it. Which is a lot of money today, it’s a lot of money anytime, and it was definitely a lot of money in 2015. But, it is still running just as well today as it did the day I bought it, and, because I spent extra money on it, and I upgraded it, it still has better stats today, than the base 16 inch MacBook Pro that you can buy off-the-shelf. So I spent a ton of money on it, but we are coming up on it being seven years old, and it still has better stats than the base model today, and I’ll still continue to be able to use it for at least another three years if not longer. I would almost bet money that any PC laptop you were able to buy off-the-shelf today, would not last that long before being obsolete. Now, I’m not trying to say that I hate PC’s. I bet if you spent $5000 on a PC today, you get a really good computer. But, generally, I think Apple build a better product at the price points offered then what you would get for the equivalent price in a PC.

I've actually showed my face multiple times. Mostly on Instagram, but I did upload a video earlier this year on another Avelo flight where I was in the thumbnail haha.

Same airline actually. Just rebranded as Avelo. I think they’re still using the Xtra Airways operating certificate.
