Thanks for watching Everyone! July was a really busy month for us - we were away from home the entire month, and that slowed down my filming / editing for the next few weeks. I thought I'd just give you a taste of an unedited flight from the perspective of the wing between Edenvale, where I did all of the work on C-FMVU and our new hangar at Oshawa a much busier airport close to Toronto.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I recognized the wiggly bit of the 400 at Barrie, and before I know it you're landing at an airport on good old Taunton Road. That was our "secret" escape route out of the GTA avoiding the summer weekend madness on the 401. So many years ago…

This is great. I’m aware it’s likely to add exponentially more work, but it would be great to have radio overlayed on the sound. Would make for very engaging content. Keep it up, very much enjoying everything you do on the KZbins.

Yeah the radio recorder cut out after leaving Edenvale - still working on figuring out the challenges of filming with multiple GoPro and audio recorders.

Great video...recognized a lot of landmarks. It's great having your airplane closer to home (presumably) but I'm betting you'll miss the slower pace at Edenvale! Let me know if you're popping over to CYSN, love to see the aircraft in person!
@GlensHangar2 жыл бұрын
Very true! Edenvale was a great slow pace airport - Oshawa is pretty busy, but ATC keeps things moving pretty smoothly.

I don't have the time to sit here and watch all of this right now. I thought you might have been busy, since I didn't see anything. I will watch this eventually, but I am looking forward to the debrief of the flight and your commentary on the wing extensions, VGs and the cuff. I am especially interested in your 'normal' landing speeds with all of that, since I get the feeling if you're flying at the published approach and landing speeds you're going to be floating way down the runway.

G,day from Sydney Australia, Glen. Your plane is "singing like a bird" in that I mean the engine is running smoothly. You have a GoPro clamped to the strut or a plate under the wing? Anyways, nice green fields (LZ) structures and roadway (LZ). Blue skies, have fun and eyes on cheap gas! 🌏🇦🇺
@GlensHangar2 жыл бұрын
The GoPro is mounted to one of the inspection plates with a larger battery inside the wing. Cheap gas... that's almost a thing of the past. Though prices have peaked and appear to be dropping ever so slightly.

Great video, thanks for sharing the views we're amazing. How did the plane handle with all the modifications?
@GlensHangar2 жыл бұрын
The plane is handling great with the mods - took a bit of 'retraining' to get used to the new flight characteristics, but now that I've figured it out; I'm very happy.

I always wondered own people mount gopro (or similar) on planes. Is it screwed to one of those access plate or the suction cup is good enough? Never the less, nice video!
@GlensHangar2 жыл бұрын
It is securely bolted to one of the inspection plates - I know that a couple other aviation channels use the suction mounts or the double sided sticky mounts that come with the GoPro... but if you search YT you'll see that a few of them have also lost cameras mid flight.

Didn't realize how little runway is needed to take off! by my estimation it was well under 1000 feet when the wheels left the ground

It will get off the runway with even less - I've been testing it, but I didn't want to push it too hard in this video.

Hi Glen I have a 1966 172 G floats plane considering the wing X mod I was wondering how much of a difference it made in shortening your take off and climb performance
@GlensHangar2 жыл бұрын
Climb performance increased greatly - It's been hot and humid here since doing the mod (30ºC++) but I'm now getting 1200-1500 fpm on climb with the 145hp O-300. I haven't done exact takeoff / landing roll numbers yet, but my feeling is it cut them by 40-50% - and the stall speed at 40º flaps is in the 35-38 mph range, so if you wanted you could really bring it in slow and stop it on a dime.
@jimlockwood45312 жыл бұрын
@@GlensHangar FYI I had that engine and upgraded to Lycoming 0320 E2D with the ram STC rating the engine @ 160 hp then I added the power flow exhaust which turned the aircraft into a real performing float plane fuel burn 6.5 gal per hour approx 45 lbs lighter than the old firewall forward and a lot cheaper than the 180 hp lycoming stc burning 10 plus gal per hour.something to think about for future upgrades .
@GlensHangar2 жыл бұрын
@@jimlockwood4531 I'm definitely leaning that way - the O320 with the STC, but the current engine only has 300 hours on it right now so I'm waiting to read the oil analysis trend from the first few oil changes. The upgrade may be a year or two away. It would make this plane a beast, I could push the Max Gross weight much higher because of the WingX STC and I'd end up with better performance and a useable load over 1300 pounds.
@jimlockwood45312 жыл бұрын
@@GlensHangar sold my firewall forward with 1200 hrs first run for $8500. 00 USD over 14 years ago they are in demand however so are the 032 lycoming engines. If you ever need any info on the stc just reach out to me would be glad to help. I’m based in Sudbury Ontario
