Today you are flying with me on a Jetstar (budget subsidiary of Qantas) Airbus 320-200 for a one hour (754 km) journey from Brisbane (population: 2.5 million) , Queensland, to Sydney (population: 5.4 million), New South Wales , on a very cloudy afternoon. Waiting just outside runway, we witness two Boeing 737 (Rex and Virgin Australia ) landing right before us. The plane takes off from Brisbane Airport Runway 19L and almost climbs all the way in cloud before reaching cruising altitude of 38,000 feet, which is barely above overcast cloud. On top of cloud, there is no convection and the plane is cruising as smooth as silk. In descent into Sydney from north, we can see some spectacular cloud formations. After some cloud surfing and passing Sydney Harbor, the plane touches down onto Runway 16L of Sydney International Airport.
If you are busy or impatient, here are three highlights you can not afford to miss:
Sunshine through a small hole in cloud and reflects on wing: 08:09 & 09:02
Wait just outside runway and watch two Boeing 737 landing: 12:28
Spectacular cloud formations in descent : 1:14:35
Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour: 1:17:26
