Hey Tom! I have a question regarding setup that was not adressed in the video, and I have not seen it being adressed elsewhere either, like never! How far up on the stick should you grip with your left hand (i.e. how close to the top of the golf club should you hold your hand, or, how much space should there be between the top of the left hand and the top of the club?). Probably not a problem for most (they just grip it) but for me it is a problem, a question, the answer of which I am still not sure. Since I am tall, I tend to want to hold as far out/up as I can, to make the club as 'long' as possible. But not sure that is a good idea? And sometimes my gloves get.. torn or used in unusual ways (sorry I don't know the right word in English, but my glove may get 'broken' to quickly due to incorrect? placement of my glove on the shaft of the club?) Kind regards! /Staffan

Hey young man, this is the way I was taught to swing the club in 1963 when I was 12 years old. The gentlemen who taught me was a Hogan guy and believed in everything Hogan did after his accident to take the left side of the course out of play. I have taught golf for over 38 years and was guilty of teaching how not to swing the club for years until 4 years ago. At that point I went back to what I had learned in 1963 and my ball striking came back better than ever. You are right on target with your vids, what I see is what I learned many years ago as a youngster, your doing the best job I've seen on just how simple the golf swing should really be, congratulations, your vids will change lives on the course.

I was a 5 handicap and I decided to switch to a two plane swing to become a scratch player and in less than two months I went up to an 11. My low point was shooting a 112 at a tournament and finished last, I almost quit the game. I have been pounding golf balls and then ran into these video series and it is without a doubt the best advice I have found. I read the Hogan book but could not get the results, this instructor made me understand them and I feel like I have something real to work with. I wish a saw this years ago

I quit golf in 1969 out of frustration. I could not afford lessons and used hand me down clubs. I started back play golf two years ago and took a few lessons and also did a couple paid subscription via the Internet, which I’ve since cancelled. They helped, but nothing like your videos. I sincerely appreciate your kind words regarding my instruction content, Steve, and I'm very glad to know that it is benefiting your game! Don't feel "dumb" - unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant.......😎 Seriously, how interesting and sad it is that with all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still can't break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness! Congratulations on your upcoming move to a beautiful part of the country!! I look forward to meeting you after you've settled in!! Tom

The compass arm is the icing on the cake. With that swing thought I’m hitting the ball crisply. I’m consistently hitting left … but straight … from my target line. More work to do. Many thanks Tom.
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to know that the compass imagery resonated well with you, Joe. It's certainly one that I regularly like to mention in my lesson videos As for hitting it left, the answer lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line dictates the ball's starting line, and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. From there we can then back into the cause of a sideways shot and then reverse engineer it. By the way, there's an entire section of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. I found your channel and showed my youngest son and he likes your videos. Keep it up. I’ve played for years and my son has been playing basketball since 3rd grade and now starts on his HS team. Asked him after the season if he would want to try golf and only played 2 practices rounds in his life and went out for the HS golf team. Made the team after having to try out for 4 straight days of scorecard the only thing that counts. Lost his first match and won his second before everything got shut down. He has a natural swing and listens to me at times but since I’m dad (I’ve learned from helping coach basketball) that he doesn’t listen as much as someone else with the same info. You explain it in a way he picks up and he thinks you’re funny. anyway keep it up as you seem to have a connection with the younger audience.

After being in the Saguto online training program just over a month, I can see why the proper grip, set-up, alignment and weight forward are essential before proceeding further into the program. I can see how someone could hit balls every day with great dedication and still not get any better. It has been proven to me that the grip and set up must be as close to perfect as possible to get repeated results. A solid foundation is a must in almost anything that can be built upon.
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Your comment is spot on, Scott!! Regardless of skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Embrace the process and have fun out there!! Tom

@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! I advocate widening the base incrementally as the clubs get longer, but aside from perhaps doing it for specific drill purposes I generally do not teach adjusting the trail foot closer to or further from the target line depending on the selected club. TS

Hi Karol - I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying my instruction content and teaching style, and I look forward to seeing you in the online school! Many of my members view the lessons on their Smart TV's. This is direct from customer support for the teach:able platform that hosts the school: _"They can use the TV's browser and/or there are a few different options on the market for streaming to a TV, but the 2 that come to mind are Chromecast and Apple TV. Both would require someone to purchase the Chromecast or Apple TV devices in order to cast to a TV."_ Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start in the school: 1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this. 2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing! 2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down. 3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf 4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school enrollment - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it! Thanks! Tom

The best online coach on the planet. Tom, I am settled back in the states and playing golf again. Smacking them good but I have one question about my left-hand grip. Should I try at set up, when I place my hands at the inside of my left thigh to have the golf club shaft look like it's running straight up my left arm like it's part of my arm? or should it be a little to the left or the right? I sure think I am making better contact when I run the shaft like it's an extension of my arm but it just feels like my hands are too far forward.. feel or real. Help me Obiwan, you're my only hope!😁

Nice to hear from you again, Tom! Have you re-upped your school membership? I hope to see you back in the forum soon. Yes - in the face on view of the stock setup your lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line. In other words, when you add your trail hand and look at your setup in a mirror your two arms and the shaft should resemble a lower case "y". You'll find this detailed setup instruction in the preliminary lessons of both the Golf Swing Simplified and Get Out and Go Play courses. TS

I'm glad to know that my content is resonating with you, Allen! I would not suggest moving the hands that far forward. Instead, consider the following possibilities: 1) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 2) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 3) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 4) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 5) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, then aside from any setup issues (grip, posture, weight distribution, alignment, etc.) those are the primary causes of fat shots. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address these various causes, a better option for you would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for your message and Happy New Year! I agree with 100% except for palm grip haha. On a side note, your putting tip from another video seriously has helped me, but I play with a palm grip and want to see why you are so against it? I studied hogan and played ok with it, but after getting the idea from MOE and trying myself to use more of a palm grip I have found I play much better with a palm grip and maybe it’s because I played baseball all my life? Anyways, I don’t see any harm with palm grip if the swing is round like it’s supposed to be. What you think?

I enjoy your instructions but I'm normally left handed except I swing right handed yet my dominant arm is my left. You state all the power is with the right arm but mine is with my left! A good percentage of my tee shots with a driver or 3 wood tend to favor the left side of the fairway and often into the left rough. Any advice would be appreciated...

Left side means you hit pulls? Closed clubface at impact. Start from there.

Thanks Tom!!! I've been trying your swing tips for a while but not getting any results. Turns out my posture was all wrong, butt sticking out and back completely straight. Rounding my back went against all of my instincts as someone who plays basketball and lifts weights, a rounded back is just a recipe for injury. Not in golf I guess. Now my shots are crispy KFC clean. Maybe a playlist of your videos that beginners like me could watch in sequence would be helpful. Thanks again, Tom.

Why the right hand completely over the thumb-Make sure u r secure ?
@SagutoGolf3 жыл бұрын
The pressure point of the palm of the trail hand on top of the thumb joint on the lead hand helps to marry the two hands together and also provides for a proper wrist hinge without any contrived manipulations (which kills consistency). And if the grip is not secure, the handle can move around during the swing and give us a variety of face angles at the point of impact. If you enjoy exploring all areas of the golf course, then an unsecure grip and a haphazard wrist hinge will surely accomplish that for you... 😎

I aim left as a fault. Its too much weight on the back foot
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Alignment sticks and video are great tools to use together to correct aim issues, Paul. As for the weight forward component, in this swing system you start with your weight forward (55/45 for the short and mid irons; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. TS

It looks to me like your swing is just like a regular golf swing rotating the hips. I thought I was doing good with your videos until today I tried concentrating on sliding my hips and it bowed my left leg out at the knee and now I can barely walk. The ball went straight.

Hi Ronnie, It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. So many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf - and here's a link to my free mini-course: go.saguto.golf/ As for the body-friendly nature of this swing system, a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. With regard to your lead leg, your feet and knees should have already been flared outward (as you will notice in every face-on video of my swing), and as a result of that orientation there would not have been any stress placed on it. The setup is covered in extensive detail in the school, but here is a channel video from the archives that speaks to this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJSai3t7oq2jgKs TS
