I enjoy the game mode but I think it was a monumental mistake not letting this mode bake in the oven a little longer for another expansion or two.

Ive done all the bounties and enjoyed lvl up diferent mercenaries, and grinded for a few days, but thtas it im out of mercenaries, theres no reward playing the game and its not fun to repeat the bounties neither pvp if u dont have all the mercenaries

I have played for many hours and the main problem of the game is the endless repeating grind. The worst thing about it is that you can't avoid the grind by buying packs. I wouldn't mind paying for packs if I could eventually get the mercenaries I want and upgrade them. I want to make Jaina and the only way I can do so is by spending 2 days grinding the same level at Blackrock

I was telling people all week and hardly any believed me that the only people that get screwed on this game are the ones that buy hundreds of packs lol. The game sucks and it's a MASSIVE grind regardless of if you bought 0 or 300 packs, right? You still have to grind tasks, get level 7 equip, get everything to 30 (not hard still a grind though) and even if you bought 300 packs you may still have to grind past task 7 to fully maximise all of the equips. My Saurfang just finished task 14 and he still needs maybe another 600 coins to be fully finished. The shortcut saved by buying packs is still held back by how broken PvP was initially and grinding PvE all day, and those that bought packs will realise in a couple of weeks or months that they have absolutely nothing to spend their 5,000+ excess Xyrella, Vol'jin and Samuro coins on.

if you don't mind grinding then it's totally possible to just get the characters you want. You can get coins relatively quickly for a specific hero. With legend being the most expensive to craft at 500 coins (which would take the longest). But it's not impossible and probably way faster than any other game mode. The only problem I have with the game is that the packs let you get skins before having all of the cards of that rarity. They should make it so you have to have all the rares to get rare skins... all the epics to get epic skins... and all the legends to get legend skins... It would suck to get a horrible legendary and the next pack get a skin for that legendary instead of a new one

The skins should work like the golden cards. First define what merc you get and then a possibility that includes a skin. That possibility may be as rare as getting a shiny pokemon, but the mercenary collection should be secured first.

The mode isn't that expensive. It's a PvE mode you can gradualy unlock stuff in. You don't have to unlock everything day one and the PvP is only a minor aspect of the gamemode. It's fun to play the PvP but it's not essential to have every single mercanary pumped up to play it unlike constructed

But the problem is that you have almost no freedom in what you get. If I wanted The Lich King for example, it’s could take months before the lootboxes unlock him, or I farm enough coins. You get a small selection at the start, sure. But get comfortable because you’ll be forced to use them for a long while :/

Well, you can look at the bounties and there's a set of hero coins dropping from each one. You can go after that bounty over and over again, especially in the Barrens and after a few runs, you can get the hero you desire. You won't have coins to upgrade it,but it works. That's how I got a few of my heroes already

This game mode has a duplicate protection failing bug that you can open a legendary hero the same as the one from preorder, the one you opened can't be found or dusted and blizzard hasn't compensated people for the lost because of this bug. I’m pretty sure I got super lucky. I decided to spend the five dollars on the release day bundle And bought a dozen or so packs. From my packs I got five out of six human characters which have made a fairly powerful team. I’ve cleared all the single player with it only struggling on blue bosses where I had to make a team with more green in it and it has proven quite effective in PVP as well.

You obviously haven't played much then as it's VERY RNG based. Every top deck has a speed tie on turn 1 or 2 that will instantly lose you the game if you don't hit it!

My only guess as to why portraits aren't craftable right now is they don't want to "trick" players into hoarding their coins for a chaser legendary portrait, when they could/should be upgrading spells and equipment instead. Hopefully later on we will be able to craft portraits.

go into one of the PVE stages (Barren, Felwood etc) click on a Level so the boss portrait shows up on the screen. under the portrait theres a reward chest. click on it. it'll show you 3 mercenaries you could earn coins for by defeating that boss. (typically its a random 1 of the 3.)

Tl;dr - This mode is fun and very easy to grind. TBH i know people freak out about spending too much time to earn things in games , especially if they're 100% f2p. That said I personally wouldn't mind if it took a bit longer to get things earned. I'm f2p minus ~2000g in packs on day 1, and i've gotten all mercs except rag malf and ant atm. I'm a little behind on maxing out the mercs but I have 1 main comp that's pretty close to it while the mercs im not playing are around level 2 in their abilities. While awesome, the issue with this is, its been 1 week. What will I do a month from now when everything is maxed and there's nothing to earn. I also think this mode is pretty great ( its essentially just old school pokemon ), and therefore has room to be expanded on in the future to make it even better and synergies even more flexible. At this begining stage once you pick a synergy you want to play around there's so few mercs that you're kind of forced into a comp, kind of at least. If you want to play nature, well you have to have malf and brukan, with a flex spot to gruff or brightwing or maybe tyrande. In a team of 6 you may barely be able to fill it with nature dudes, most of the time you'll pick 3-4 and put none synergistic dudes for the last 2. So future game play will be even better when there's more mercs, so if you want to play nature you can pick 6 of maybe 25 different dudes who have nature abilities. (nature is a bad example as it and holy have the most users, frost or shadow are better examples) . I just hope that when we get the expansion stuff in the future there's either so many more mercs that it takes longer to earn everything or there's some added goal to achieve with them. Maybe new gear for existing mercs that only comes from the next PVE stage that's really really hard. That would be nice.

It's because rolling a portrait in a pack is much more likely than an epic Merc, if the game determines you get a portrait it then rolls a random number generator to determine what rarity of skin you get, if all skins of that rarity have already been collected, it upgrades to the next rarity

When u have all the skins of that merc (n obviously the merc itself) u get 50 coins of that merc. So when u have more than the 50% of the mercs, it's more likely for u to get a skin n viceversa.

I grinded out coins as fast as I could with mysterious stranger and completing the quest for coins. I logged 3250 coins in 6 hours. A pack is worth less than 250 coins once you have all heros, let's call it 250 coin value. So 13 packs about. A pack is worth 100 gold, so 1,300 gold in six hours. Thats not bad! Even if you got 2500 coins a day, thats still 10 packs a day, 1000 packs in 100 days, and thats real value. How many hours do you have to grind in regular hearthstone to get 13 packs? Thats 26 levels on the rewards track. Im gonna bet its far longer than 6 hours! In addition to the 13 packs worth of value received in 6 hours you get experience points that push you down the hearthstone rewards track. I didn't keep track of how many in 6 hours, but thats extra value! Does anyone have any stats on average time to grind 1000 gold in regular hearthstone?

Oh, you get a lot of coins, no doubt about it. What are you going to do with these coins? You can fully upgrade some useless heroes. After a point in the game (which I reached in 3 days) you only need specific coins. In standard Hearthstone at least you can disenchant the cards you don't want (or have duplicates) and use the dust you get to craft something you actually want. While a pack sells for 100 gold, it is not worth that. It's like when you have a full collection in standard, a pack is only worth 40 dust, but in mercenaries it's not even worth that.

I have to say, as a BIG fan of 'gatcha' games, HS Mercenaries is by far the EASIEST to max out a team of heroes. You can get a decent PvE farming team and all 18 tasks done for them in just a couple days. Other games within this format take weeks, or months to max out 1 or 2 heroes.

BUT it is not a particularly easy trip, endless repeating grind can burn you down really really fast :/ I do not have to mention that if you spend that much coins to craft them, you have to grind the heroes AGAIN, for coins and levels and all abilities/equipments on level 1.

take your best 3 LVL 30 Mercs. put 3 Level 1 mercs on your bench. if you play through last stages of Felwood or the easier of the Level 30s - those level 1 mercs will go up to level 30 in 2-3 hours of gameplay.

Another problem of this game mode is that it is not as fun or visible as hearthstone in terms of inspecting a game or watching the streams. I guess it because the battle system is too complex to know every character's abilities.

For me it, should be that simple like 30 bucks to unlock all mercs for the expansion and then packs for coins if the player want to speed the process of grinding, but blizzard will never remove the gamble system, even with a 30 bucks preorder (half of a full game) a player will not have most of legendaries and epics to start having FUN with builds unless he grind a loooot even after paying money to craft them a, and more grind to lvl 30 and more to lvl up the skills and items...

Spending money is the absolute worst thing you should do for mercenaries it's just not worth it. You're better off just grinding specific spots for The mercenaries that you want and then crafting them and upgrading them. There's no pity timer on the packs so you can buy hundreds and hundreds of packs and you still won't get a full set

Please explain to me why you need more than one portrait for any of the mercenaries other than to say you have them? I opened 300 packs and got all the mercs and have 13 of them fully maxed and 20 at 30. I’m not spending another dime on this phase as it’s easy enough to bot coins all day. So other than buying the packs to get all the mercs , buying anymore is pointless because it would defeat the actual playing of the game . PvP is a joke and until they refine it there isn’t a need to even play it.

Pvp is good for leveling mercs. If you do 3 30s and 3 of any other level at the 6k plus rating you almost always get a bot.

Definitely bummed me out when Natalie seline “ transformed” but had no change in animation. Also all blue cards have same entrance, all red same, all green same. Would like to be able to only play one or two mercs at once as well instead of being forced to always drop 3 if available. I am enjoying the mode but I do hope it keeps improving.

the problem with this guide is you dont need to upgrade all 3 equipment and spells...you just need to upgrade one equipment and 1 or 2 spells, you will find yourself during the game you really only use 1/2 spells for each merc for a specific comp set up. And more importantly you dont need to have the whole collection to have fun...build 2 solid comps that look fun to you and start pvping...you will enjoy it.

People need to remember that this mode is basically rng aswell, same as other modes. It all comes down to who has a counter to the other person. You don't need every hero abolility maxed, just need a well thought out starting three and some good luck

Getting a full collection of mercenaries itselves aren't that hard but getting their equip and skills to max are required insane amount of time or money.

you dont need all that. most mercs have abilities/equipment that you can ignore. Xyrella for instance... all you need to do is max out Blinding Luminance and the Wand equip. the rest you can worry about later.

I loved the mode, and I was happy to pull 3 legendary mercs in the free packs (diablo, guldan and alex). But man it gets boring after some runs. Specially when you want to try fresh new parties. The same fights over and over again kinda kills the fun. For me at last, its way too grindy, and man, I grew up playing ragnarok online...

I dont understand the hate in Mercenaries: all hs-Community was flaming on Blizzard, because u cant rly play clasic HS without paying. Now we have a Mode, that is just made for the looting and lvling fun and People now flame that its unpayeble, even tho the mode is easier to get free. I like that it is super free to play friendly but really milks whales. I bought the $5 bundle and opened around 40 packs total. I have played every day. I am only missing Ragnaros lichking sylvanas and guldan. I only need 25 more coins to craft guldan and am around 350 coins for the others. I expect to get all the mercs by the end of the weekend.

It says "at least 1 rare each pack', so coins basicaly are common, even for epic/legendary mercs. SO why would they even made it hero-bind coins? Why not just Coins like dust in TRADITIONAL hs? I've already maxed 4 heroes and now have ~6k dead coins for them just because there is no duplicate protection for coin. This game mod had so big potential, but lost it just because of this crap economy (lets be honest - this mode was made just for money, because Blizz dont want to repeat the failure with clearly f2p Battlegrounds)

meh. this video is misleading. you dont need to worry about all the abilities, all the mercs, all the equip. that's crazy. just slam Xyrella and Samuro in your comp (they're free and they're bad ass) - get enough packs to open Tavish and Varden (they're both rares if im not mistaken) then fill it out your lineup with the best of what you have left and go level the shit out of them. focus upgrade 1 ability and 1 equipment for each merc. worry about the rest later.

I stopped playing hearthstone when LoR came out, occasionally checked in but less and less - belows is long; tdlr: From this I've no desire to look into mercenaries. Gave HS far too much money just to make decks I wanted in those creative first couple weeks of new cards. That's always my favourite time to play. With LoR I played loads at launch and earnt a lot of currency to pretty much make the first few new decks I wanted to try and play from there. I feel like my time has been respected from LoR. With HS, I don't really feel that at all - and I loved HS since it's first beta. It's a shame. LoR is releasing an update to its PvE content next month, I'm still playing through the current ones - had their bugs but I've really enjoyed and am excited for more. In watching this whilst considering trying mercenaries, I feel I'd probably like playing, end up spending money - (addictive tenancies n shit, HS preyed on that shit, another reason I stopped) - and quickly feel shitty about it before moving onto LoR or all the other games coming out. And I am glad that they made it completely separate so they dont make me feel like im being forced to play so I dont miss out on hearthstone rewards

thats because you are used to Hearthstone packs with 5 cards in them. but in hearthstone you have 135 cards and most of them you need doubles of. there's only 51 mercenaries...and they are all 1 ofs. so packs naturally aren't going to be as exciting...but you're getting roughly the same thing on a much smaller scale

You can get an alternate legendary skin even when you're missing other legenaries. So yeah, the 2 extra uther skins could have been missing legendaries instead
