WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! - FULL TOUR of our 200 year old traditional stone COTTAGE. (Moving to Ireland)
This is it folks, we FINALLY have the keys to our dream home in Ireland! We cannot wait to share this ancient traditional stone cottage with you, and we can now give you the full house tour!
It's going to be quite the restoration project, as we attempt to take this little Irish cottage back to its original state (with some modern comforts of course) but the plan is to use traditional as much as possible materials such as lime plaster and horse hair!
It's going to be quite the learning curve, and one hell of a journey, but we are hoping to make our little homestead as off grid as possible as we build a life in remote Ireland, we do hope you're coming along for the ride, something tells me its gonna get interesting.. hit subscriber to see how we go!

Congratulation girls. Myself and my wife we are Polish but living in Ireland for the last 20 years, so we call ourselves Irish by now :-) Only 3 years ago we fulfilled our dream of a house in the countryside. We are only 10mins form the next small town, but the house in nature is amazing especially having 3 year old twin girls which enjoy the surroundings a lot. Ireland is beautiful and people here can't compare with any other country they are just amazing. Weather could be better ,but you can't have everything in your life :-)

My tip is dont gut everything to start with, i did that and ended up taking nearly 2yrs before i could move in. I would suggest concentrate on the outbuildings, do the workshop you will need it, do the office space so you have somewhere comfortable in the day and evenings, dont touch the bath and the kitchen till last. Sleep in the van if worried about the mould, and then even though you are ripping the walls, try to concentrate on a room at a time. Obviously roof first but you know that already. Also the damp could just be as its empty.. if you get the fires working and heat clean and air it, it might be okay

I’m 1st generation American. Dad from Co Tyrone Mom from Dublin. They brought all 6 kids from Brooklyn to Trillick Co Tyrone in 1970 to an old Station House in the middle of the country -no electricity. We survived and were stronger for it. Hello, good to see your enthusiasm for renovating the cottage. I have renovated 3 properties in FRANCE all stone built and with compacted earth floors. Now a bit of reality you will need to damp proof the floors and insulate the external walls. Stone built walls no matter how thick are a heat sink. Don’t be mislead by going for a natural wall appearance,in winter you need to be warm in your hose.

Old stone buildings need to 'breath' therefore they need a special insulation board that won't trap moisture in. The board recommended to me was called 'Calcitherm'. Hope this helps! Looking forward to following you on your exciting journey. Best of Luck and welcome to Ireland!

Looking at the tour, I can see why you love it. Two things to comment on: best not to have fitted units in the kitchen. Solid walled buildings need air movement up to their walls, and you really don't want condensation, mould and inaccessible dust building up behind fitted units. Secondly, don't obsess about level floors. A six inch fall across a room's floor wasn't unusual or a matter of concern. Generally, floors fell toeards the door for easier swooshing out, but not always. Just collect bits of wood to put under furniture to level it.
