Come along with me as we take a full tour of our large family homestead pantry. We are a family of 7 and we raise and preserve most of our own food in zone 4b in Nebraska. Because it's harder to garden in the wintertime here, we can a lot of food. We also try to purchase all of our dry goods in bulk, to save money and so we have plenty on hand in case of food shortages or other emergencies.
On our blog wagonwheelhomestead.com we have a "how to start a homestead pantry" post that goes into detail about where we purchase the supplies to create a homestead pantry, how to start a homestead pantry and how to keep it stocked. We also have lots of from scratch recipes coming soon on our blog that will show you how we can eat out of our pantry for over a year without having to purchase any food. We hope this is an inspiration to you, and if you have any questions on how to start a homestead pantry, please comment below. Food prices are getting higher everyday and it's only smart to be learning the skills necessary to cook from scratch out of our pantries.

Beautiful pantry! I've been canning almost 50 years but just the last 4 have really converting my pantry to all home made things. Bought my homestead in Indiana for my 60th birthday 😊. My pantry is starting to get to your level. I just started buying my spices in bulk. Definitely a money saver!!

I ate canned greenbeans that had been canned 39 years ago, it made a believer out of me. What was funny was the canning jar was blue, lol, old school

The organizing can be the hard part! It's function over beauty for me. I'm not very good at keeping my pantry super organized, but as long as it serves the purpose of feeding us, then I'm okay with it. There's always room for improvement on organizing LOL. Thanks for following along.

Fabulous pantry. Good job. We just finished a 60 day pantry challenge as well, and we did very well. We used up a lot of meat from our freezer and put a small dent in the canned section of our pantry, although it isn't as big as yours, but I do have a lot of broth. I love to can, and we love to eat it. We still do a bit of shopping but not a much as before. We eat what we have. I am going to have to start buying spices in bulk, that's a great idea. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day 🙏🏽👍🏽💖☺️

Thanks for following along, and I'm glad it was an inspiration to you! Yes, the spices are so convenient to have on hand, not to mention cheaper. There's nothing more frustrating than having to go the store for "cumin" or "garlic powder" ugh!! Great job on the pantry challenge! It's so good to learn different ways to eat the food that we've preserved. Just like they did in the old fashioned homestead days. It's definitely a skill we all need to work on developing more! Glad to have coming along with us, and look forward to hearing from you more!

Absolutely! So I can my vegetable soup, and sometimes fruit juice in 1/2 gallon jars. I have a large pressure canner that can fit four 1/2 gallon jars in at one time. The soup has to be pressure canned of course, and then for the juice I just use the same canner to water bath can it. Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for following along!

I just found your channel and I am super impressed with your hard work to build your pantry. I have canned most of my life, started with helping my mom put up food for our family of 6. Now I am a grandma of 6. We recently moved to Nebraska and put in our garden before we even moved in. You must live in the NW corner of the state? We are east central and in zone 5b which is strange to me because where we moved from was further north and we were 6b. I am so happy I found your channel and will continue checking in.

Hi Bev, thanks for following along! So fun to hear from a fellow Nebraskan. The zones are so weird, and they actually just changed the zone map which is why we're now in zone 4b. We used to be in zone 5, but we always planted for a zone 4b because a lot of zone 5 fruit trees won't survive the winter here. We're in north central. Canning is SO rewarding and fun. I'm happy to have fellow canners like you following along!

How many jars do you think you have in your pantry? It is beautiful and makes me want to transfer my food from #10 cans to jars. I think it makes it more enticing to eat it when you can see it. Inspiring video

You probably could although it wouldn't give it quite the same flavor. We can usually source kidney fat from our local butcher shop, so that is what we use.

North Central. They have said we are in a zone 5 for a long time, but our frosts and weather have been more in line with a 4b. They recently changed the zone map and it is more accurate now.

@@lkbd12345 I like to start mine around the 1st of April but my house stays a constant 72° so my starts grow fairly quick. I also use a tool that I showed on my last video to help me know exactly when to plant each crop. seedtime.us/jkmel4ukl4tonac09iap-5fs?ref=27iw2
