My TripAdvisor Review: www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowUserRe...
This is a Full Hotel Tour and Review of the Once Historic and Once Haunted Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac (Frontenac Castle) in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
This Hotel is once of the most famous hotels in the world, it's the symbol of Quebec City and it's also one of the most photographed. This Hotel was built in phases with the first wing being built in 1893, and later wings in 1899, 1902, 1908 and 1912. The Main 18 Story Tower portion of the hotel was added on in 1924, and the wing where the pool was located was built in 1993, and a parking garage in 1964-1965. This hotel was originally opened and operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway, which built hotels to accomodate wealthy travelers who needed a hotel near the train station. It was bought by Fairmont in 2001. This place is also ridiculously busy as it is one of the major tourist attractions in Quebec. The Canadian Pacific Railway always designed their hotels to be like French, British or Scottish Castles, Medieval Castles and Renaissance Chateau's. This hotel was always well known for it's dark and haunted castle-like interior and it's castle-like look on the outside. Despite a recent major $85 million dollar renovation in 2014, this hotel is still a huge tourist attraction in Quebec and is also still Quebec's symbol. Does it still deserve the fame it gets and did they preserve the places' charm? I'll let you be the judge. Having visited this place 11 years ago, I feel like they destroyed just about every bit of this places charm with the exceptions being the outside of the building, the back areas and stairwells, and the 2nd floor, and that's it. Even though the lobby still has some old world charm, it looks quite modern in it's own way now (keep in mind I've been in some newer Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton Hotels that had old fashioned lobby's)!!! Also, when I was in the basement, elevators, hallways and rooms, I FELT LIKE I WAS IN A BUILDING BUILT IN THE 2010s!!!! Yet it's over 100 years old!!!! I think they absolutely preserved like NO HISTORY or CHARACTER AT ALL!!!! Also, we HAD TO SWITCH ROOMS CAUSE THE AC WAS BUSTED!!!! AND THE BEDS WERE UNCOMFORTABLE!!! GRRRRR!!! NOT HAPPY!!! And in our second room, there was a rusted light fixture. Not to mention, while they claim 80% of their rooms were renovated and 20% aren't, it turns out all are renovated, cheaply!!!!! It's just the remaining 20% (like the rooms we stayed in) were renovated but made to look old, and it turns out, they used Best Western style furnishings for the rooms!!!! As for the other rooms, they look like typical AC by Marriott rooms. I felt like I was in a modern hotel the whole time I was here. Not a haunted castle like what it used to be!!!! WAS NOT HAPPY!!!! And neither was my MOM!!! Thankfully, the staff was nice and the food was pricey but very good, the pool was nice, and the location was great, but other than that, this place is all modern and generic and the exterior feels like a facade, and no longer thriving. If you ever come to Quebec, I would visit this place for the food, but if you want to get rest and stay at a hotel with historic charm, DO NOT STAY HERE!!! It's crowded, the beds are hard like rocks, maintenance issues, doesn't feel like a castle, feels like a modern business hotel, YOU NAME IT!!!! While not the worst hotel I've stayed in by any means, it really isn't all that great and I just personally wouldn't recommend it.

I will apologize for this video not being the greatest and for my rant in the description. This is not in anyway what the style of my Newer videos are like. I will admit, I did make the hotel renovations and elevator mods look worse than they are, but I was just really disappointed. In all honesty, this is a beautiful hotel, however, the maintenance in at least the "older" rooms isn't the greatest as the first unit I stayed in had a broken A/C, and the second was just really worn out. This hotel doesn't suck by any means, it's a beautiful building with lots of history, but the rooms aren't the greatest given their expensive price point, and I was just disappointed in the renovations and elevator mods. Cause after all, there is only ONE Chateau Frontenac, and no other hotel or building like it, and I was disappointed certain historic features were removed in the overhaul.

Barry Allahyar Enjoy your stay. Personally, I didn't like the renovations and I felt they destroyed most of the charm and character the place had and we didn't like the issues our room had, but hopefully your upcoming stay works out for you. Enjoy Quebec!

I tried to get them but sadly I didnt. Fortunately, I recently got some from the hotel I stayed at in Vancouver the year after. Those sadly got modernized too.

Floridian Elevators what kind of buttons did you get from the other hotel. You might find this surprising I prefer modern elevators excluding Kone. Even though I still find vintage Dover traditional here and there that’s really the only vintage fixture I saw. Is impulse a vintage fixture? Also I opened an elevator channel also known as Yoshi Elevators you may want to check it out.

@@bostonelevatorsaviation I've never considered Impulse vintage but the oldest installs of Impulse are almost 40 years old now so I guess they're vintage now.

Some parts of video were unnecessary such as the endless scenes of hallways on different floors. Not necessary to show us why you turned on the faucet in bathroom or using your foot to flush toilet. Guache. Camera panning scene is too rapid. Makes viewer nauseous. Would help if camera operator panned slowly. It's an art to be a cinematographer. Needs a lot of editing to just show the highlights of your tour. I fast-forward through most of your video as it was repetitive and uninteresting. Good amateur attempt to show hotel tour.

Yeah, many owners of historic buildings for whatever reason love doing renovations to the gorgeous old interiors to make them "suitable for modern times." Which basically comes down lowering them to the non-existent standards of our times by making the interiors more bland and filling them with tacky modern interior decor, it's disgraceful. There's so much shitty modern furniture now, I'd rather have gorgeous antique furniture filling the hotel rather than the soulless, factory produced modern furniture. We're lucky they didn't whitewash the walls of the interior, apparently having colors in the rooms is "dated". I guess the interiors of buildings having no character is what is fit for our day and age. Don't fix something that ain't broke. I wish they still built hotels like they did back in the day.
