Wow. I thought it would be nice but I didn’t realise it would be THAT nice! It’s a lot bigger and more grand than I thought from the few videos I’ve watched. I’m kind of blown away to be honest. Gorgeous high ceilings. The layout is fantastic, you seem to have everything planned to the finest detail, which is very impressive indeed. You should be incredibly proud of yourself. Loquat tree. It flowers in the autumn and the bees go absolutely crazy for it. I don't know if the fruits will ripen where you are, but the tree should be fine, the space for it looks well protected. And it's an evergreen and very decorative. Love the work on the house, btw.

With planting a tree just make sure it’s the kind of tree where the roots don’t spread outwards and damage the foundation of your home in any way.
@BackfromAmsterdamАй бұрын
Thanks for the advice, we were considering potting it and then burying the pot to restrict growth and roots, but not 100% sure that’s the way to go.

'Acer shin deshojo' dwarf japanese maple. You will need to contain the roots, being so close to the house. Best to contact an arborist for advice 👌

Two observations, it seems there is not a single window on one side of the (non-terraced) house…any reason for that? My tastes would tend toward a very colourful tree for that space, if I thought a tree was the way to go. Place looks great whatever the case. I am an American now living in the UK & I was eager to see what you did with the seemingly fairly small addition (US think) to the footprint. Having lived in a typically small Manhattan apartment (high ceilings tho, which can be nice) I was already downscaled in what I am used to, but nevertheless am still adjusting. In S. Cal suffer speak that kitchen area is killer 😉
@BackfromAmsterdamАй бұрын
@@ztifbob that’s very kind, thank you. I guess there are no windows on that side of the house as it was built after the neighbours and they probably didn’t want any windows overlooking them?

I think I must be over sentimental. I just find it sad to see beautifully built houses being knocked about and originality being lost. Its happening everywhere. Exteriors and facades left whilst the guts are ripped out and opened up. The soft lime mortar, slow growing timbers and handmade bricks clinging on, creaking with the pain of steel, cement and gypsum. The original floor tiles, laid by not just a labourer but made and laid by craftsmen. Gone. All for wanting a level floor. We are custodians of history.
@adamrandles4055Ай бұрын
Yeah, sod the level floor lmao. But maybe they have the sense to get them relaid.
@grantbos596726 күн бұрын
No you are not overly sentimental. Sadly this is happening in America as well. From New York to San Francisco. Beautifully built homes with unusual unique features gutted to make way for new bland colorless interiors.
@wastelander634123 күн бұрын
This is a 120 year old house though let's not forget. It no longer serves its purpose as it was built. It now requires adaptation to occupy a newer generation. All the steel and concrete added to this renovation could possibly help keep this house standing for another 120 years. If you watch his videos you will see he crafts origional reatures to help retain original characteristics of the period. I think he has done a cracking job bringing the old house into this century by adding the new extensions top and bottom. Not only has this house been Brough forward 120 years it had increased its value massively. Can't wait to see the finished product.
@AutoMotivate21 күн бұрын
I felt the same way while watching the other videos. Basically tearing apart and ruining history with the house, for the most part, was solid.
