Hi, you planted your plants out so what will happen to them in winter?
@bob9108
@bob9108 Жыл бұрын
To those that struggle with only 2-3 leaves on Alocasia: You are not fertilizing them enought. Alocasias need a bit more nutrients. So if your arent fertilizing them on a regular basis or at least when they push a new leave they just take all the nutrients from the oldest leave and pump it into the new one. The old leave dies cause of that.

I appreciate that whenever you refer to south or north, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, you make a point of reminding us that it’s the reverse here. Which I already knew personally, but I could see where it could be confusing to some folks. What would be even more helpful, would be if whenever you referenced temperature you threw text on the screen with the conversion to Fahrenheit! I feel like every single time I have to pause the video and look it up 😂. Same with centimeters versus inches, also that doesn’t seem to come up as often. But, regardless, I love your videos, and appreciate learning from you!

Just wanted to say: don't be too concerned if the pitcher plants doesn't make new pitchers on the next few leaves. They need a while to acclimate to room humidity and will often focus on the leaves for a month or two and not inflate the little pitcher buds on the tendrils. As long as it has enough light (and the LEDs will definitely provide that) it will start making them again.

But when you talk about your winter problems I do laugh out loud in 'tropical plants in UK winter' cackles 😂 We could never aspire to huge leaves like yours, which is why I suppose I feel I get the most satisfaction in growing babies into adults then giving them away because I don't have room. Moss pole questions: - if you initially misalign the arial roots in the pole and after 5 new leaves, no roots have found the pole, what do you do? Repot and realign? - some plants (like Florida Beauty) have arial roots coming out in all directions. I guess you could chop the roots facing away from the pole, but is there a better option? Thank you sir, for the lush content. Your channel is one of the reasons I got a bit obsessed with aroids and has been instrumental in my moss pole journey - I make my own, based on your experiences and they’re doing great!

All my plants that weren't cooperating have been placed in the 'naughty corner' (outside) so am curious to see how they all go as the overnight temps will be dropping to 5 and 6 degrees in the next few days and the rains are meant to be coming too. Your maranta and stromanthe triostar seem to be coping pretty well too. And thanks for the info re the Ep. Pinnatum....didn't know this so will be taking a cutting of mine and placing it outdoors in spring 💪

I used to have one of those pitcher plants. Mine never produced pitchers because there wasn’t enough humidity. Then the mealybugs got onto it and I’ve realized it way too late so it ended up dying! Up until the bugs got to it it was growing rapidly, though. If the pitcher on a new leaf dries up before it even develops you need to up the humidity. It would probably be a good plant for an ikea case or a terrarium, but since yours keeps its pitchers I wouldn’t worry too much.

Just an idea to up the humidity - I have a water fountain for my cat and the plants nearby seem very happy! My theory is that it's adding some humidity in the air around them, and the cat loves drinking her running water! You just need to keep it topped up and change the filter every now and then.

Just a little idea for your outdoor moss poles. Since they dry out so quickly maybe consider setting up a drip irrigation system come spring and summer. They're super easy to set up if you have a source of power for a small pump and a timer.

You could have two vines in each pot, like front and back, then rotate pots so each side gets light every day or two. That way you always see plant and not an ugly bare moss pole back. I only have one window, so that's what I have done.

Hi, Jan! I'd like to share my observation of your plants with you, since I'm pretty familiar with my own large Monstera collection by now. I believe your plants are still adapting to the humidity levels of your new place. You can tell by the slightly crinkled texture on the surface of their leaves; your Laniata, Dubia & El Savador. As well as the slightly smaller leaf size. Their adaptation could take several months until they get the hang of it but Monstera are generally tough plants. All the best!
@sydneyplantguy

I don’t think it’s humidity based… the humidity here & in my old place is very similar, if anything it’s higher. But less light & lower tenperatures so they’ll definitely have some adjustment to do :)
