I only have one Aglaonema I bought it as a little baby three leaf plant. It’s got beautiful pink variegation . I believe it’s called Lady Valentine. I watched yourAglaonema care video and finally got up the courage to chop off the top after a couple of months and propagate that back into the mother plant and it rewarded me with four new growth points off the base! it is looking so full and beautiful now, thank you so much for your advice!

I remember folks saying variegated anthurium would be huge in the US for collectors in 2022 but I haven't seen too many people interested in them until the last few months or so, self included. I have a variegated pterodactyl and sweet love but there's defintely a few in this vid I'd love to add one day. The type of variegation makes a world of difference to me though. Thanks a ton for sharing with us! I'd love to go in the near future ☺️
@onlyplants Жыл бұрын
Whoaa thanks for the share. Ive always been curious about how the variegated anthuriums are received outside of Southeast Asia.
@Gee-xb7rt Жыл бұрын
The variegated anthurium I have seen in the US look kind of sickly unless they have well defined variegation like these.
@domo_mother_of_plants Жыл бұрын
@Gee-xb7rt I defintely get that. I've seen a lot with speckled variegation, which is why I wasn't interested in them but I've seen an increase in nicer sectoral variegated ones from growers like SKG and from a few collectors in anthurium FB groups this yr. It'll be interesting to see how widely adopted they become in the anthurium community.
@domo_mother_of_plants Жыл бұрын
@onlyplants no doubt! From what I've gathered on IG and FB groups, many anthurium collectors weren't into them for the most part until recently since now there's a little bit more variety in color, types of variegation, and crosses which I think has piqued interest. I'm curious to see how popular they become in 2024.
@variegated_stingray Жыл бұрын
People really only say that because they haven't existed much thus far and weren't affordable. I said the same until I was lucky enough to have grown one from a seed. And ever since I understand their beauty.

with waroc… they are hard to acclimatize, and also you need specific growing conditions. They are actually affordable for a “rare” plant, and their prices hasnt fluctuated much. People produce them in large numbers but the death rate in the hands of customers are quite high.

I'm not into anthuriums, but I love your enthusiasm for them! As a beginner plant parent, anthuriums are too big a challenge, and I don't have the right conditions for them in my flat. I do have three caladiums, a Calathea, and an Alocasia that are doing well so far. Maybe in a year or two I'll be ready for my first anthurium.
@onlyplants Жыл бұрын
Oh yes Anthuriums are for next-level growers. I actually struggle with mine. I keep overwatering and subjecting them to root rot. They are not so forgiving 😅
@Gee-xb7rt Жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants i just found something interesting and I haven't tried it yet, but apparently pine acts as a deterrent for Pythium, which is often what is behind root rot. They recommended about 20% pine in the potting mix.
@Gee-xb7rt Жыл бұрын
All Anthurium are not the same. The flowering varieties that are most common aren't that difficult, the bird's nest ones are a good place to start. If you want the silver venation A. clarinervium is a little hardier than the others. Many of them are epiphytic so you need to grow them more like orchids in a really chunky mix. Tom Croat found some in Peru that are easy growers, A. longissimilobum gets large leaves, A. timplowmanii is a very similar plant and stays small, its one of my favorites and really easy going, just a very slow grower.
@pinstripesuitandheels Жыл бұрын
@@Gee-xb7rtI use pine park in my aroid mix, so I guess I'm already one step in the right direction.😊

@@onlyplantsoh, that's a shame. I'm an overwaterer too, and I've just rotted my third Monstera. It was a cutting off a sick plant that I took in an attempt to rescue the plant, so maybe I'm not completely to blame. I WILL own a Monstera deliciosa, so I'm going to get a new one.

I think those types of variegated especially the whites in the albo's are so beautiful as if god painted each one individually. Then comes the browning then they look like you did not take care of them most people do not live in a humid area so they do brown pretty quickly. The market for certain ones like PPP and thai constellation have went from $2000 to now $80 a plant this is how trending plants work. We bring out the "new" and overprice them then they go to tissue culture and drive down the prices and the cycle starts over. I have my plants myself thousands of dollars worth just staying clear of the variegated ones they do not last long.

I plant my aglaonema in aroid type mix soil and water when the pot is almost completely dry. So water before you would a snake plant. Lighting is the tricky part. They like light, but light adjacent. So think pulled to the side of a window, not in it. Or pulled to the side of a 20-40w grow light. My Aglaonema Maria is 2ft down and 1ft to the side of a 20w grow light, it won’t stop flowering. My first aglaonema was a white rain and I figured it needed light so I stuck it 2 ft directly below a grow light and it slowly melted on me 😢 Now I have a ton of Aglaonemas in various colors thriving. They are all filler plants though. Never directly below light or in windows, but pulled back and tucked away in places that normally I wouldn’t put a plant. Hope this helps someone ❤

I dont think the variegated anthurium will be the IT plant. It doesnt carry the mystery of plain dark or red ones… the variegated ones look like alocasias. The ones people buy in bulk in the BKK show, which goes on at the same time as yours in Jakarta, I think are still the plain hybrid ones
@onlyplants Жыл бұрын
You are on point about the variegated alocasias. They saturated the market so fast in Thailand. They do grow a lot faster, and really puts out offsets. Anthuriums are much slower growing and they require more specific conditions to survive. This may mean that they can maintain the “rarity” a lot longer. But this also means less people might be confident enough to grow them.
