First, I hate modern rap. I do. I don’t believe it was ever intended to be vulgar or violent. But...... I love these guys. These two men are the reason rap music became popular. I only wish it was as clean and talent filled as it was when it exploded on the scene as it was with rappers delight. Mad respect for wonder mike and master gee. Rip big Bank Hank.

i own the documentary "i want my name back". The story is very compelling. Sylvia and Joe Robinson, the owners of the now defunct Sugar Hill Records knew how to discover talent, however they were very poor business people. The artist were paid very little for their efforts and they weren't taken seriously at all. Not only did the Robinson's loose Sugar Hill Records they also lost a previous record company called All Platinum Records.

It's unfortunate what happened to Wonder and Mike. They are both great gentlemen and very nice. They are also very creative and deserve the best in life. Sylvia and Big Joe also were great at business and creativity. Joe was the business mind and Sylvia was the creative genius. They identified and got many other legends out there. Years later Sylvia did give some money to certain artists. My dad, was never ripped off because he knew the business and still tries to help. \

Rap legends get little respect because of several factors: a) Willie Lynch Syndrome. b) Record companies, etc do not want old school black artists to get respect because then the industry can't be kidnapped by outsiders who only seek to extract wealth.

Black people as a whole get little respect because they are still using terms such as Willie Lynch syndrome. 🙄 Learn the game go on offense and stop playing defense.

they were just picked up from the street by music producers (literally), it could have been anybody, their way was soooo easy in comparison to real big names i.e. Grandmaster Flash and Furious 5, Kurtis Blow, Cold Crash Brothers, Grandmaster Caz, Afrika Bambaataa and Zulu Nation, DJ Kool Herc etc... and at least they had real talent, not like these guys in video, they should be more humble and pay respects to real rappers of their times
@D_in_DC5 жыл бұрын
You have no idea what you're talking about. There are several backstories behind the how Rappers Delight came about. There are people who contributed to hip=hop and rap in ways you can't imaging, and they never got public credit. But if you ask people who were there, they'll tell you.
@lacheinc2 жыл бұрын
be humble? Youre a clown. They literally created the first RAP SONG paving the way for the artists youve mentioned. They wouldnt have had the platform to turn the underground hip hop culture into something bigger without their contributions
@modifiedcontent5 жыл бұрын
These guys created nothing. They were random kids off the street. Sylvia Robinson brought them together and developed the entire concept. The backing track was Sugar Hill Records house band, playing a Chic instrumental. These guys didnt even write most of their raps. What have the done since that one record? Nothing.
