I was 10 year old white kid in suburban Chicago. To say this song changed everything doesn't do it justice. It brought everyone together in a way that only "it" could do. That was the universe acting to line up to put the rappers, music, lyrics, people and distribution for the common good. Thank you guys...that song is not on regular radio but every once in a while I'll catch it and smile....and I HAVE to listen to it. Thank you!

Cool to hear the background to a song that was the end but one of the highlights of my roller skating youth. It has continued to flow in and out of my almost 60 years on this planet with its percussive “B” beat that never fails to get me moving my feet! Love their grounded take on the ride of peak success turned into a grounded well played life. Dare I say “ROLL 🛼 Models” (Pun intended!)

In 1998 I worked for a concert promoter here in Belgium and I was a runner that had to pick them up at the airport. I drove a small VW Polo and Big Bank Hank was in the front passenger seat. Joey Robinson was the lead vocalist if I remember correctly. They were great guys with lots of stories to tell and gave a great concert in Antwerp.

Big Bank Hank stole the lyrics from the other rap artist but never gave him any credit. This is really sad, everyone got paid except the rap artist Grandmaster Cash.
@rogershoffner11 ай бұрын
Borrowed. He asked caz can he borrow some rhymes. Caz let him, thinking the rhymes weren't going anywhere. Now he wants credit. When caz heard the song blowing up back in the day, why didn't he confront Hank then and there? Yeah Hank should've gave him some credit. Hank has passed now and can't defend himself.

Michael Anthony Wright, A.K.A. Wonder Mike born April 30th 1957 coined the term Hip-hop in the opening line of first recognized mainstream Rap Song.Rappers Delight. The Bronx never wanted to give credit to anyone, especially New Jersey. Yes, he wrote his own stuff, Grand Master Kas, Wrote for Big Bank Hank another member.......
@camii405 ай бұрын
The term 'hip-hop' was actually coined by Keef Cowboy from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
@deangelot26005 ай бұрын
@@camii40 that's the story the Bronx tells however how the term spread from that makes no sense, folks heard Rappers Delight and used the opening line as a reference of this new music, old people even said that Hippidy Hop ish 🤷🏾

He would be considered a young baby boomer, and Generation X watched them and took off with it .
@deangelot2600Ай бұрын
@camii40 I heard that story too, but as they say how it caught on,makes no sense. The Bronx wants to claim everything. Especially back then,they gave no love to New Jersey...I'd go into the story but much to type. No hate on Cowboy, he was my favorite member, the only Who wore silk button down shirts, no perm..

Hank didn't rap...he knew someone from his hood who did.....Grand Master Caz of the legendary Cold Crush Brothers.. And Wonder Mike didn't invent the phrase Hip Hop. I loved the music they gave us......but I don't like when ppl take credit for things they didn't originate.

I also have a little bit piece of history for a you, this particular record broke ground here in St Louis Missouri in August of 1979, this is not the first hip hop record release nationwide, the first was a soul funk band called The Fatback Band they had a song called King Tim the 3rd personality jock, it came out in the late spring of March 1979 a few months later in August The sugarhill gang hit and it knocked the fatback Band out, the only thing about the fatback Band King Tim the 3rd it was all original no samples it was all straight original and rappers delight broke ground right here in August 1979 in St Louis Missouri, on the radio station was W E S L -1490 AM radio in East St Louis, where the record really broke ground and in October came The Sequence with Funk You Up, everything else to go from there and then came The Sequence, Kurtis blow, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious 5 and everybody else followed afterwards

Part 2, for those who have never heard of the fatback Band - King Tim the third the personality jock, you need to check this record out it is a very very good record and funky, I wish I had to got a little bit more push
