I do vacuum casting too, just wanted to say sometimes pitting can actually come from the investment drying out for too long before putting it in the burnout kiln; if it dries too much, the surface finish inside gets a little dusty. My rule of thumb is usually not to let the investment sit out longer than 6-8 hours after it dries, but ideally you'd want to put it in the kiln shortly after it's dry enough to take off the tape, which is usually a little over an hour after pouring for me. Hope this helps, great video!

Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful! I had no idea that could happen. It sat until the next day so that could definitely be it. I'll make sure to not let it sit longer than 2 hours before it goes directly into the burnout oven.

What 3d printer do you use? From the looks of it, it looks like anycubic photon m5s?

Great video, great success, I also do vacuum casting and you must release the vacuum pump pressure first then turn off the vacuum switch so you do not damage your vacuum pump, I have heard this by many people in the industry, it only takes a second for the molten metal to fill the cavity, you don’t need to what more then 5seconds to release the vacuum pressure. Good luck 👍

Thank you so much! Someone told me to leave the vacuum on until it's not glowing anymore. I'll add that to the things I'll try next run.

What you're doing is great. I'm retired and just starting to setup a small shop for making jewelry. May I recommend that you include Amazon affiliate links of the products you use so that you have an additional source of income to help with your expenditures.
@MrBeardedJeweler3 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I used to have one. I have to re-enable the affiliate account. It wasn't getting enough clicks so Amazon disabled it.

I'll send you a link on what I'm buying next from Amazon. Won't be until my next deposit (beginning of next month) so you'll have time to set that up. I wish you all the best.

Looks like the metal used might have been too hot, but also siraya tech castable resin can react with the investment and cause something similar, it happened when i used it. I recommend switching to bluecast x one it is alot better and probably the best castable resin
@MrBeardedJeweler3 ай бұрын
Alright thank you! I am going to play around with temps until I get better results. I will end up trying that resin next, so many people have suggested it. Did you ever get it to cast good?

@@MrBeardedJeweleryes i rarely get any bad results now, i casted myself a bracelet in gold that looks flawless, before sanding and polishing it looked just like the print you could even see the tiny print layers

I have a 3.6cfm pump. I already had one so I'm not sure what is required for the unit. It does work though.

What kind of investment powder do you use? Not all powders play nice with resins.

I use prestige pro, people say that it works well with resins.I chose this because I intend on casting some gold as well.

Did you get the vacuum gauge to go back to normal??
@MrBeardedJeweler4 ай бұрын
Yes after turning the valve to another position, it released the pressure from the system. I learned that you're supposed to turn off the vacuum pump before turning the valve to release pressure.
