The best John Madden was Madden 08, the last time he actually color commentated for a game w/his name on it. He wouldn’t do it anymore after 2008 because of it feeling “stale” to recite a script for hours on end in the EA studios and w/him incorporating Madden IQ his idea would help gamers further understand the X’s and O’s of the game. All EA had to do was fix the quality of its product at the time….

I can see his point of view. 08 Felt like it barely any new lines of dialog between him and Al Michaels since 07 and 06. The editing was kinda janky too. "Number 15....comes up to make the play...at the 34!" Apply that too current day Madden 23, and I think a lot of fans are feeling that the Gaudin and Davis combo is stale to listen too. And that is even with tons of new dialog added from year to year.

I almost welled up when playing this last night. I'm an old head who's been playing Madden since the first one on the Genesis. While EA has mostly done a horrible job with the Madden franchise, causing me to either not buy or play much of most Maddens over the yrs, this tribute just took me back! My cuz and I used to love Madden as a commentator for years but, eventually, as I got older, hearing him actually became annoying but I still loved him for being a pioneer on multiple levels and always had immense respect for him. Add the well done tribute game intro to the fact that EA actually cooked up a Madden that is ABSOLUTELY the BEST game they've ever delivered, by far, is just wow. Playing the beta I was in absolute SHOCK at how well it played.felt. and was insanely addictive. I still just cannot get enough of the organic tackling with NONE of the precanned bullshit, the running, and the freelance passing. 23 is FUN!!!!! THIS Madden we should have had AGES ago but I won't belabor the past Maddens that have been ridiculously trash for quite some time, and I'm glad they put some serious polish on the beta because I already see some of the minor improvements the beta needed, particularly in some of the wonkiness of some of the tackle/post tackle animations and cleaning up the freelance passing but even in the beta, they were light yrs ahead of any previous Maddens. I'll stop there. I haven't felt this way about Madden, possibly since playing the very first one on the Genesis. They turned my borderline hate of what the franchise became to loving what 23 is AND I'm HIGHLY looking fwd to what they improve around the vastly improved gameplay. Time for the bells and whistles to take a huge leap fwd!

Historical rosters are very difficult because they'll need to negotiate the rights for every player not in the NFLPA & Hall of Fame.

I tried Playing Madden 08 on the OG Xbox and it just didn't click for me game play wise. I popped ESPN NFL 2K5 back in and that felt like home in terms of game play, physics, Defensive adjustments etc.

Ultimate team is a money grab. Superstar ok have not been touch since it came out gameplay is too animation reliant most of all it’s because they took away all competitions and left us with them for so long which games like blitz stop 2k football stop and since both of those stop EA felt like it was no need to make more then 1 football game and nfl street stop so that’s why people hate this awful game

This is a decent idea. But I’m almost certain this is only when you first turn on the game and play the little intro game. Like how they did when they “brought back the probowl” Or when they had that intro game with Cutscenes I think it was Josh Norman. Thiss will only be good if this is a mode that has been expanded on. Ik that this is ofc his tribute game, but these cutscenes are great and honestly should be in the regular game involving the teams and that the announcers actually stayed focused on a topic if they are talking about something and you get a big play Brandon gauden will go “and some room to run here 😐” but the commentators actually stay focused on the conversation in this game sure it could be better like mid convo they might make a call but they pick it back up also they need to have gang celebrations because it is so awkward to see one player doing a cheesy dance and his teammates walk away awkwardly but other it seems like a good game so far
