“Straight out of [a] young boy’s mind” cracked me up, but it is probably the most accurate description I’ve ever heard of this game. It really is like something a kid kicking around a ball on a pitch in Augsburg would dream up. German coach Joachim Löw recently revealed in an interview with the German soccer and sports magazine 'kicker' that he actually raised his voice at halftime. First of all, to remind the players that they should be focused in the second half as he remembered the 4-4 draw against Sweden in which they were leading by 4 goals. Secondly, it mattered to him not to ridicule the Brazilians, especially not in their home country. He deserves a lot of credit for this, initiating the example the German team would set with their great yet humble play. Fans recognised and appreciated this and the vast majority of Germans were compassionate with the Brazilians rather than ridiculing them. All of this created a lot of respect for one another. Sometimes a match is more than just football and this was one of those instances. Löw first and foremost deserves to be lauded for this classy act. Without his address at halftime, the 'legacy' of this match might very well be a different one.

They actually ridiculed Brazil already in the first half. The fact Löw told them to hold back in the second ridiculed Brazil even more because they were no match to the Germans at this point anymore. So I would have told them to just keep on, if the match ended 14-0 it wouldn't have changed the outcome anyways, it was decided from the point they started the match. There was too much pressure on the Brazilian team.

The third goal was Brazil players never expected. They thought the match will go balance, but at that point It was not. It's also the psychology impact to their overconfidence (Look at how emotional they are while singing the national anthem). They are the host. They are the most successful nation in the competition. They felt the third goal was like a big punch to their expectations. I see their face after the 3rd goal was like "Should we hold this scoreline?" "We should end this match early, come on!" Might probably they also were thinking if Neymar and Thiago played, these easy 3 goals would have never happened. You are not the only one felt speechless. Listen to the commentary line of the 4th goal. Ozil, it's like "Who wants it next? Who wants to score a goal?" Sami Khedira said "I think it's my turn. Why not me?" Savage!

@@Mr187Dag I’m not so sure. I think that Germany will bounce back. They’ve had two poor World Cups, but that aside they are over achievers. They weren’t even allowed to play in the 1950 World Cup but West Germany (as was then) won the 1954 edition, even though it was their first tournament back in international football. I’m sure they weren’t allowed to play in the first edition of the European Championship, even though it was 15 years after the war and ridiculous.

Now, I hope our nation AND our players will become so angry and aggressive like the have been in 2014 for 2024. Defeat after defeat and disgrace, that a stabbing against all European nations will happen. I am unfortunately disappointed and also sad about how Germany became overall between 2018 and 2022 Edit: I don't mean however, that we actually stab people. What I mean is, that the German players finally get rid of most of their weaknesses and fear and collect their anger, so they can let their collected frustration out next year

We have no clue how to deal with them and no idea how to stand a chance at all!' and sort of fall apart." But I would have never expected something like THIS! I thought it would be 4-0, 5-1 or the like after 90 minutes but it was just 5-0 after 25min played... It's 7-1 only because Germany slowed down. Maybe the best call of any sports game ever, to be alone in the broadcast booth for a world cup semi final, let alone this semi final, and to give the call this announcer did, just legendary. Manages to keep the audience entertained during an absolute meltdown by brazil. To do the job he did given the context and the fact he was alone is an all time performance. @@Kristianson1 Lahm is probably the king of slide tackles. especially from behind. Ive never seen someone sliding in from behind and fairly claiming the ball so many times. Not just clearing, but stealing it from the opposition player. And dont forget. the guy generally had the most tackles in many games but only accumulated 20 yellow cards in his carrer. Only 3 times did he lose the ball and it ended in a goal for the other team.

It makes the defeat even worse that the Germans behaved perfectly, never overcelebrating, and consoling the Brazilians after the game. They looked like this result was expected and it came so easily for them.
