I was wondering the exact same thing. I think Harimoto was just playing WAY TOO AGGRESSIVE for him, he overran and overruled him. Ma Long almost never got the chance to attack first. Harimoto is the most aggressive player I know, he attacks 90% surefire kill. Ma Long couldn't dictate the game against Harimoto like he usually does against all other players, that's why he lost. He lost his composure early on. First 3 games Harimoto annihilated him, there was no coming back from that....

to be honest ma long ball placement and attack is not aggressive like usual seems he want to lose and let Zhang jike rematch and gain more confident in the final. Yet, result is not as everyone expected ZJK lose in the final and thats the last game of we seeing him play on the international stage

Harimoto is an amazing player at this age.. but point is Ma long wasnt even trying to win this game.. if you have seen how Ma long plays , was this his full power game? he intentionally lost the game.. he won two sets just for the formality.. see how badly he defeated him at those 2 sets.. it was just to show i can beat you this badly but i am letting you win the match.. i have researched deeply into chinese national team.. not going into details , this match was fixed to lose.. another good reason is Ma long's footwork seemed to be on a restrictive side.. he has knee calcification..

@@ip5624 doesnt seems so.. Ma long made harimoto work for every point in the sets he lost.. but harimoto couldn't win more points when Ma long played seriously.. Japan team has no policy to lose game sets intentionally but chinese team does have.. but yes , table tennis is all about reaction time..if harimoto is this good.. 10 years later his reaction will be much lower than other players making him number 1 some time in future.. he will have to train very hard to reduce his reaction time.. crazy training.. :O
