The judge also brought up previous incidents provoked by Drejka. Drejka was a wanna-be cop who appointed himself lot monitor of the convenience store parking lot. The store owner had told Drejka about confronting people for using the H/C parking space, saying something along the lines of "it's not worth it. You're going to run into the wrong person one day." Reportedly Drejka replied, "That's why I carry." The judge also noted how ironic it was that when Drejka drove into the lot to confront the woman parked in the H/C space, he himself parked illegally. Supposedly Drejka would sit in his car across the street and watch the H/C space. When someone without a H/C placard or plate parked in the H/C space he would drive into the lot kinda Starsky & Hutch style to confront them. I don't know what kind of car he drove, but I'd bet money it was a Crown Vic. Drejka had inherited a lot of money from his mother and was retired since his early 40's. This is how he chose to spend his time. He will now reportedly spend his time in prison being a hall monitor asking to see other inmates hall passes. Bad shoot/good verdict.

However Michael Drejka decided that it was his duties to approach people in parking lots to enforce State laws and this is what the instructors who teaches in the CCW class don't want you to do. The only thing they want you to do is if you see something just be a good witness get a good description of the vehicle plate number and reported to the Police because they want you to try to avoid any conflict at all cost in other words don't look for problems let the problem come to you.

Your silly metaphor only applies to certain sick people. Carpenters and house builders couldn't build the house and luxuries YOU'RE enjoying without hammers! The point is- the hammer (or gun) did nothing except what it was designed to do, without fault or crime. The killers are not firearms, but deranged PEOPLE using these tools wrongly. I would never harm anyone but I lawfully own self-defense firearms. I seriously hope I NEVER have to use one, and avoid all conflict. Quite the opposite of "looking for nails" to hammer. I could kill a man with my bare hands, but have never been tempted to do so. Can a gun transform me into a cold-blooded killer!? Law-biding citizens own these because we value the sanctity of life, NOT as an excuse to extinguish it! By your comment, it seems you're against our second amendment. Please consider where there is liberty for lawful citizens to own guns, crime is lower. Heavy gun control places have the highest crime. The world is safer when life-cherishing people own these effective tools. If you think 'having a hammer' 'makes everything look like a nail', then do the world a favor and never buy a gun! I own hammers as useful tools, but they have never changed the condition of my mental health into some destructive psychopath! I also own multiple motor vehicles, knives, chainsaws, firearms, chemicals, fire starters, ropes, saws, chains, and many other 'dangerous' tools that can kill, but they have only served valuable purpose- because of the person using them. 😉

I've been sick and tired of guys walking or doing short time because they're either in a position of power and/or have a lot of money for lawyers that can spin anything. @deano.75333 жыл бұрын
The truth is that the man who was killed had no right to blind side the defendant like that. It was a cowardly sneak attack in the face of a petty verbal argument over a stupid parking spot. That guy wasn't protecting his family... because his family was in no danger. He shoved the guy when he wasn't looking and that was uncalled for. It was an assault. At that point the defendant should have called the police and told them he had just been physically assaulted and the man who died would have lived. The man who died might have even been found guilty of assault and done some time for that charge. With that being said... The defendant did have a right to pull his weapon in self defense because he was violently assaulted when he wasn't looking. Under the circumstances we will never know if the guy who died would have followed up with more violence against the defendant. A reasonable argument can be made that drawing his weapon was justifiable because he was in fear of receiving serious bodily injury at least. But when the man who died took three steps back (which is what we see on the video) the defendant had absolutely no right to fire his weapon... He murdered that man because there was no threat to him after the man who shoved him stepped back when he saw the gun pointed at him. At that point the gun had done the job that a CCW Permit is intended to do. It equalized a violent situation and it stopped the threat completely. At that point if I was the man with the gun I would have got in my car and called the police and reported being assaulted. The defendant/murderer deserves the 20 years. Perhaps it should have been more but that is up to the court to decide. If it were me and I was carrying a gun (or not) I wouldn't have even blinked twice at a person parked in a handicapped space with no placard. That's none of my business. Carrying a gun is a serious responsibility so you have a moral obligation (as well as a legal one) to do everything you can to stay out of confrontational situations like that. A concealed weapon carrier should never be the primary aggressor. You're just asking for jail-time if you fire your weapon in a situation when your life is clearly NOT in danger. In the beginning the man who died was the primary aggressor... But that changed as soon as the defendant pulled his weapon and the man clearly took three steps back. The man who died had no right to push the defendant like that. It was a chicken shiite thing to do... blindsiding him like a punk. But that is not a reason to shoot him... That is NOT A REASON to kill him. If you pull the trigger of a gun you have to assume that you are going to kill your target. That man didn't deserve to die that day. When you're carrying a firearm under a CCW permit you have a duty to not be an aggressive lunatic. But this defendant who is now a murderer was acting like an ass the moment he started getting involved with a woman who was parked in a handicapped spot. The man who died lost his life in a terrible tragedy. It was such a waste of a life. The 20 year sentence for murder is not a tragedy. It is justifiable. It sickens me to think that the man died like that in front of his wife and children. :-I

HIs VERBAL argument with Jacobs had nothing to do with Mcglocton's PHYSICAL attack on Drejka. You think if the judge had been in an argument with someone in a parkinglot and that person's baby daddy came out and decked him he would be conflating the two separate incidents ? This was about race hustling, gun grabbing, and other politics. It was clearly a justified shooting. Had he not shot Mcglockton would have likely attakced for a third time and finished Drejka off.
@chrisdouthat1624 жыл бұрын
@@Thinks-First Well, you are right that the other man attacked him and was the first to escalate the fight. It is entirely possible he would still be alive if he didn't push Drejka. But in the video it's pretty clear that the other man was backing away from Drejka after he pulled out his gun, at which point the gun really did not need to be fired... Also, and I hate to be pedantic, I don't think he decked him, if that means punching him... he was pushed, and fell to the ground. I don't think the violence there was justified either necessarily, but I also think that Drejka was just trying to pick a fight in the first place. He got what he wanted and he ended up killing a man, in my opinion, even though he may have thought that he wan't doing anything wrong (i.e. he thought it was a good thing for him to do). Let's also not forget that he had 3 or 4 previous incidents of road rage where he waved a gun at the other drivers and brake-checked a woman leading to a collision.
@Thinks-First4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisdouthat162 I get all your points, Chris, but you have to watch the entire trial to understand what actually happened. I believed as you did right after watching the video. However, after watching the Sheriff interview and the entire trial I had to change my mind. Any rational person must. At trial it became clear that the only route to exoneration for Drejka was whether Mcglockton RETREATED at the sight of the gun and not just stopped his advance. Watch the video again. When he pulls the gun Jacobs and the bystander INSTANTLY retreat as human nature would dictate. You and I would do the same. However, notice that Mcglockton does NOT retreat. According to expert testimony (that went unchallenged by the prosecution) Mcglockton "bladed" instead of retreating. Yes, he turned his foot out but NOT to retreat, only to "blade". This meant by definition that he was NOT retreating. The reason this is significant is because by not retreating Mcglockton was still within striking distance of Drejka. And since he had already attacked Drejka TWICE, Drejka had every right and good faith reason not to wait for attack #3 fearing loss of life or limb.. Unfortunately the jury disregarded the successful defense his experts testified to, and the judge failed to throw out the verdict as he should have. No doubt for political reasons. As for Drejka's prior gun brandishings and road rage, they are immaterial at trial. He was never arrested nor was his gun confiscated so these incidents are not indicative of any pre-murderous behavior. Let's not forget that he never shot anyone either. Drejka may be a self annointed hall monitor, but his argument with Jacobs had nothing to do with his justified self defense by Mcglockton. By the way, did you know Mcglockton was on drugs at the time of his attack on Drejka. You have to watch the trial to learn important details like that.

Drejka is guilty and justice was served. I would also add that the victim would still be alive if he didn't assault the defendant. You are correct, it's not the defendant's responsibility to enforce traffic law. It's also not the victim's right to physically attack anyone arguing with his significant other. It's easy to bash the defendant, however nobody is learning the most valuable lesson here. Escalation of a bad situation only makes it worse. It went something like this. 1) Person parks illegally 2) Person confronts illegally parked person (escalation) 3) Illegally parked person doesn't apologize and begins arguing (escalation) 4) Person pushes self-appointed traffic vigilante to the ground (escalation) 5) Traffic vigilante murders person with firearm (escalation) Seeing a pattern yet? At any point in this tragic story this situation could have been deescalated. Thug bitch thinks she can park wherever she wants Self-appointed traffic patrol thinks he can enforce the law without a badge Thug homie thinks he can push people down whenever he wants Self-appointed traffic patrol thinks he can shoot people that push him down Seems like 3 people with no respect for law and order to me. I really appreciated what the prosecutor had to say. It seemed very sincere and heartfelt. I live in Hillsborough County, one county to the east of where this case took place, and I remember exactly when this happened. I believed that the defendant was in the wrong from the very beginning. I actually worked with a woman who would "police/monitor" 2 handicap parking spaces that were right in front of the store where we worked. I would get so upset with her because you just never know how people are going to react to being confronted and reprimanded by some random stranger not minding their own business! When this happened, I brought it up and begged her to stop, if for no other reason than she was putting my own safety at risk because of the close proximity. I am a gun owner, but I am *very much* in favor of stricter gun laws and I believe that the judge and jury made the right decision in this case. I hope and pray that this family experiences peace that passes all understanding. 🙏💔🙏
@djea3589 Жыл бұрын
Your attitude is a huge part of the problem. The fact that someone is so self centered and self absorbed that they believe they have the right to violate the law and then be upset with a citizen that asks them not to. This is part of the problem with cosset and especially those under 35 years old today. Self absorbed and self centered and self aggrandizing. IF there was a problem then the police should have been using the CTV to send $200 citations to each violator. As many cops and pass that corner per day they could receive about 4 to 8 times their salary even today just from citing that one parking space. Now for my take. I watched every video many times. I noted that the wife or gf exited the vehicle and confronted the defendant the moment she saw her "man" exit the store. She escalated this, and as you can see from the video Drejka had actually walked back away from her. If you look closely she got in is face the moment she knew her man was there, in order to conflagration the problem itself. Her escalation made her man react in extreme physical violence. The blindside hit of Drejka lifted him into the air and threw him almost 14 feet. Had he been a police officer this would have certainly been a good shoot, period. Had I been the Sheriff, she would have been arrested as well. She committed a crime (unlawful parking which is an infraction) however that infraction and her escalation lead to the violence which lead to the death. She is the actual culpable party. The problem is that today she is feeling vindicated by the action of society to ignore her action and her reaction and her escalation.

Todd Schultz: Michael Drejka thought in his mind that he was back in the1950's in Money, Mississippi the good oh boys system he absolutely thought that he was going to beat all the charges an that he was going to be a freeman. The reason why the jury made an example of and found him guilty of manslaughter is because when McGlockton pushed Drejka to the ground then Dreka pointed his weapon at McGlockton that's when McGlockton started to back away so the courts feel the since McGlockton started to back away that Michael Drejka was not justified in using deadly force and Drejka has a history of paper trail with the Police Department the courts feel that Drejka raises a red flag and that he shows a pattern of bad behavior. Michael Drejka was properly trained in the CCW class in the use of a weapon for his defense and for the defense of others Drejka was not trained to intervene in situations out in the streets like a cop or to approach people in parking lots to enforce State laws. By the courts finding Michael Drejka guilty they are sending a strong message to all conceal carry holders in Florida that they don't want armed citizens playing cop out in the streets because the courts are not going to tolerated anymore. While Michael Drejka is serving time in State Prison the other prisoners will definitely teach Drejka on how to mind his own business.

@James Edward Sterling, Florida law does NOT allow Markeis McGlockton to assault Michael Drejka he should of had never put his hands on Drejka especially if you don't know if that person is armed or NOT and it was only a verbal argument noting physical. However the courts and the legislators don't want you as a private citizens to confront nobody unless the threat is coming towards you. If you carry a concealed weapon, don't go around picking arguments. Always think several steps ahead, and remember that a confrontation which leads to you having to pull your weapon is a bad one. All CCW instructors teach their students that if you see a suspicious or criminal activity, whenever possible, be a good witness, dial 911, and give a good description to law enforcement DO NOT intervene in situations out in the streets because as an armed citizen your NOT shield by any civil liability and you don't have the same immunity as a sworn police officer. As armed citizens, you are only trained in the use of a weapon for your defense and for the defense of others you are NOT trained to be stalking inside a parking lot to catch people parked in a Handicap spot so that you can approach people to enforce State laws they don't want you to do that at all. Remember Michael Drejka has a history of paper trail with the Police Department and the jury looks at this as a pattern of bad behavior so Mr. James Edward Sterling don't get mad at me I'm not the one that found Drejka guilty it was the jury that found Drejka guilty so Drejka made his own bed now he has to lay in it and he's responsible for his own actions it is what it is bud get over it.

@@robertortiz8540 I reject that analysis. In America you have the freedom of speech. Telling someone your opinion of what they're doing can be recieved differently by everyone so you never know who will react negatively. That shouldn't deter people from speaking their minds. Regardless if they're armed or not, which I believe everyone should be, because it's the only way you can defend yourself reasonably. Its reasonable based on statistics that ONE punch has the ability to end your life, or knock you unconscious to where you're left defenseless from let's say, getting your head stomped in. So its always reasonable to defend yourself from an attacker using deadly force. Unless you continue to follow someone and harass them, you should have the freedom to say what you want. Telling people they can't speak their minds to other individuals who are breaking a law is retarded and that's not a world I wish to live in. @Charles Lee Ray actually he was employed. He worked nights and spent the day with his children. You people will find anything to discredit the victim. If's he's employed - you say he isn't. If you know he's employed you'll mock what he legally does for a living. If he is a father present in his kids life - you'll say he isn't the biological father . You're obviously biased to value a dog over the life of a human being. By the way we all know thug is your new way of saying nigger.

He can't be remorseful for shooting the person who was trying to take his life. But he DID express remorse for the loss of human life in the police interview. Why don't you learn the facts before commenting?!

His facial expressions are way too familiar to me ... unfortunately... An autonomous aggressor with total lack of sympathy and mercy, full of self-importance. "I am right - everyone around me is wrong, I know it better, I have no idea what their problem is, I've done nothing wrong, they're all stupid ... " His stare at the judge is chilling, psychopaths look like this with no blink or need of looking elsewhere occasionally. During the initial interrogation he proved himself rather thick and he dug his own grave. Then he cares nothing about the verdict and almost falls asleep. What a moron.

That's with parole so, 10? 9? Good thing he's white and knows how to kiss a cop's ass. Let's not pretend that if the situation were reversed, if the black guy shot the white guy, the black guy wouldn't be accused of being a remorseless monster and given life without parole. Justice my ass. This guy should be locked up until he's dead because it's CLEAR he will never modify his behavior. If the piss and vinegar hasn't run out of you by your 40s, it never will. He'll kill again if given the chance.
