Nice Video, Looked like a lively ride. We were sailing our Catalina 22 on lake James, NC last Halloween under the full moon. Anchored out and grilled a steak while the moon came up over the mountains. I would love to do this crossing but I haven't spread my wings over saltwater yet.

Nice. I’ve got a Catalina 22 on Kerr lake. My wife and I are hoping to cross the sound to Ocracoke this summer. Where did you leave from? How long did the trip take?

Hey! My wife and I have a boat on Keer also. We are on C dock in steele creek. We have a catalina 36. I'm very interested in that crossing too. The trailer boat seems ideal for moving around. Ours, not so much haha. We are third from the end on the right if you are over that way.

We usually launch at Swan Quarter or Cedar Island depending on wind direction. We aim for wind on the beam or behind us because wind on the nose can double the length of the trip. 6-8 hours is the usual time. We have come in at night at 1am a few times as well due to light wind.

@@adventuresofsailorpauli1543 awesome. I appreciate you getting back to me. And you can leave your truck/ trailer in the lot overnight without any issues? That would be great. I think we might try for swanquarter.

@@brian7908 The rule is: If a truck has a trailer attached to it, WildLife rangers know you are on a boating trip. Stay a 1/4 mile away from all the big shoal markers in the sound. There are sunken boats on those shoals. Stay far away from Great island on your port side as you are leaving Swan Quarter, it is very shallow around it. Swan Quarter boat ramp is in a marsh creek but I think you'll be fine in a C22. IMPORTANT: mark a gps track as you leave the ramp because the marsh can hide the boat ramp creek when you return. Cedar Island is deeper, but you must round the west side of the Royal Shoals marker and enter Ocracoke via "Nine Foot channel". Some friends of ours tried to follow a ferry to Portsmouth and had grounding issues in a C25. I wouldn't recommend that. I think we are trying to cross in late July. Good Luck Peace!

What is the Carrboro Yacht Club? Do you have a home lake? Races?
@adventuresofsailorpauli15433 жыл бұрын
Jordan Lake , the Fearrington Point boat ramp. Races? Not really, but we are currently making deployable race buoys. We anchor out, full moon sailing, and constantly prep for Pamlico Sound crossings, trips to Miami or Keys

We have been wanting to put together a Yard Sail Day in downtown Carrboro where we set up our masts in town and compare riggings over brews.
