I was curious to hear more about the actual geometry numbers. I used to make my own frames as I'm two meters tall and no frame company ever made dirt jump frames long enough for me. But aside from just making them longer in the front, I also played around with making the head angles steeper than normal to keep the wheel base in check. I started out on a large Santa Cruz Chameleon which had a 69 degree HA. Then I tried 70 degrees and ended up with one at 71. And it's never felt twitchy.
@likamuuk2 жыл бұрын
BMX bikes are even more extreme: 75° is considered mid, everything below (aka ca. 74,5°) is rather for speed stuff like dirtjumps or bowl riding esc and everything above (up to 76,3°) is rather for tech stuff. I have 75,5°. One big player is fork offset. Having a longer offset (ca. 32mm) will make the steering more stable and better for high speed stuff. Todays mid offset is about 22mm. A shorter offset makes the steering more twitchy, but makes nose manuals easier (I have 15mm) as well as a steeper headtube angle. Flatland riders for e.g. ride 0mm offset🤯 As you can see, theres a lot of stuff (handlebar height/ stem geo as well🌚) going into this area of the bike effecting the steering feel, stability, wheelbase and maneuverability of course (aka how easy some tricks like nose manuals are). If I had the money, I'd probably spend months bust trying out different setups and their feel. Example setups: -steep ht angle, long offset -mellow ht angle, short offset -steep ht angle, mid offset lol I gotta stop talking, this is getting out of hand ahah I love bike geometry😂😂💀
