Great video! However, I'm having a big problem with lining up my paper to the Cricut machine. I did everything in your video and when I put the paper on my mat and go to cut, the alignment of the cut is WAY off. I noticed I still have small gaps within my printers tape, but no matter what, I only get one good cut and the rest are super off. Any tips for this?
@maryniederlander37752 жыл бұрын
This was a good video for those who prefer doing stickers with an offset white border. I like my stickers without such a border. And while the border does give you a bit of leeway in how well the Cricut cuts the pre-printed images, I still like only printing and cutting my images with no borders. For such images, I have had not as good results of the cutting of the images as you go further down the sheet, they are a bit more off. So for me personally, I will use the limitations of the printable area allowance of Design Space and fit as many stickers as I can within the 6.75 x 9.25 inch limitation. My stickers come out beautifully cut.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Last night i was crying and regretting that i got cricut. I took me a few hours to create the sticker using this method. I'm using inkscape, so i had to save the png in another software and convert to jpeg to print etc. My printer wouldn't print without borders, a total chaos. But I've opened the file as jpeg in adobe and viola! After almost 30 tries, I've found the correct size to print for my cricut to cut. Thankyou once again! You gave me so much hope.. thanks for sharing!! ❤❤❤

I’m confused about the registration marks. You mentioned Cricut uses the squares to know where the edge of the paper is? But the squares aren’t actually printed in color when you print out the full page and before you insert it into the machine, isn’t it already in place between the tape? So the Cricut will cut the same spot regardless if you had the registration squares? I think I’m missing something

Thank you for your video. I'm trying it now. When you print the sticker page do you use 'borderless' printing in the selections?
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
you're welcome! I did not have to choose "borderless" as my printer printed right to the edge automatically. You may need to test this on your own printer first, by making the 4 white squares in each corner black to see if it prints right to edge of the paper or not. If it does you are all set. If it does not your cuts would be off and you might need to google your printer model and how to print "borderless" or remove any kind of margin the printer is adding. Hope that helps.

I know this post is a year or so old, but it's def helpful thus far. I've always cut stickers on my own and found the silhouettes and cricut waste SO much vinyl...and that's expensive. I tried the set up twice now, and in the second time, after a calibration, I found the initial cutting of the tape to be so crooked and off. I did it a second time (to see if it would hit the tape in the same spot) and it was off center from that! Do I need to get the tape EXACTLY on those lines, or maybe the glossiness of this tape is throwing it off?

Sorry everyone's set up is different so it's hard to help or to narrow down the where the issue is stemming from. Perhaps do some testing with your printer. Otherwise the machine isn't perfect and even though I can get this to work for me it doesn't always cut 100% correct either and unfortunately we can't control that.

I have seen a ton of videos about this but there is one area no one has touched on. The exact print settings. For me the registration marks are never exactly at the edge of the paper there's always white space between the registration marks and the edge of the paper. If I choose the borderless setting it blows up the image and cuts a few mm off the registration marks. Either way, my cuts will be offset. I'm at a loss. Any tips for me?
@suiren_vt8819 Жыл бұрын
What I end up doing is that I’ll print with the squares as black and then trim the top and left edge up to the edge of the squares. Then I’ll use a ruler to measure the width and length of the page from one edge of the square to the other edge. Using those new measurements I’ll adjust my cut file size in cricut instead of doing 8.5x11. Then I do the same thing and just align the now trimmed page to the top and left of the masking tape square.

@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
I use the Epson ET-7700 printer and I don't have this issue, but each printer is different. Even when your settings are all correct in the document itself, you may still find that your document won't print border-free. That's usually because the printer driver itself has default borders set for each document, and until they're changed your document will print with a border or your program will tell you that you're trying to print a document that's too large for the page. You can try to fix it by opening "Devices and Printers" from your startup menu, then right-click on the icon for your printer. Choose "Printing Preferences" from the pop-up menu, then look at the setup options your print driver provides. Usually, there will be one called "Layout" or "Page Layout." Once you've clicked "Layout," you should have the option to manually set your margins to zero. For some printers, you may need to dig down another level and find an "Advanced Setup" screen to get to those settings. Newer printers, especially if they're photo-oriented, should have an explicit setting for borderless printing. If that doesn't work you might just have to google your specific printer model and how to remove the border. Hope that helps some.

This is a great video. I’ll be doing something similar with 12x12 to get more use out of my foil transfer sheets. I didn’t see you use the registration marks tho. Did they do anything? How did you use them when lining up in DS?
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The registration marks are white so nothing will be printed, but they do get exported into Design Space along with the "cut lines" in the .png file. The registration marks serve no purpose in DS you have to enter the measurements manually like I show in the video. They are probably not really needed but because they are cut first I can tell right away if my Cricut cuts are going to be off or not. This gives me the chance to stop the Cricut right away, unload the mat, do some calibration tests, then reload the mat and start the cut again.

I do have a question. I'm using Illustrator & am setting up registrations in each of the corners. I'm setting everything up to 0,0 in Design Space, but I'm still a little off. At least, with using your tutorials, I'm a lot closer than what I was. I was wondering how off-setting you are using for your cuts? Also, with elements that require a bleed, how much bleed do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Have you calibrated your machine yet? Give that a shot. Mine was slightly off when I first started printing but now its spot on after doing two calibration sheets.

Hi Valerie - did you resolve this issue? We are using Illustrator too and have a similar problem even after calibrating the Maker 3 correctly. I must add we are using a Brother MFC-J5730DW printer with borderless setting. We are in Australia so use A4 paper which we have set in both Illustrator and Design Space. Very frustrating indeed!
@valeriebliss79782 жыл бұрын
@@robertvanriet2178 No. I never figured it out. I finally gave up & just started using Cricut's layout specifications with ensuring everything is staying within the 6.75"X9.25" design space & then choosing the Print then Cut option when importing the PNG file. After I design in Illustrator, I do take the AI file & place it in a template I created in PSD. I export out my PNG file from there. I found that AI creates too small of a file when exporting to PNG. PSD creates a very large PNG file, so it can be shrunken down when brought into Design Space. I hope this helps.

Maybe i’m over thinking this. but are the registrations marks even needed when it’s just cutting? my understanding was the registration marks are for the print and cut from the program to align but you’re bypassing the slightly by cutting out the original 8.5x11 on the mat.

Honestly I've never tried it without them and it could work fine. I do know that I can immediately tell if the Cricut cuts are off when it cuts those squares first, so I could stop the cut, calibrate, and start the cut over. If you do try it without the squares please let me know how it goes 🙂

Can the sticker design file with registration marks be created in Cricut design space or maybe Canva? Or it has to be an outside program?
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
In order for this particular process to work you need a program that has layers and the ability to save as .png (transparent). I'm not familiar enough with Canva to know if it has those features and Design Space does not have the ability to save as a .png. There is a free program called FireAlpaca that does have these features and I made a video overview about it if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKXNhZl9abd2ock

Anyone still has issues with the cricut cutting correctly? I did a calibration and it was perfect but when it comes to doing this hack its just off by a lot.
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
If your calibration is perfect but cuts are still off, it sounds like it could be the printer. I've seen a lot of comments about ppls printer adding a tiny border, which would definitely be a reason to throw cuts off. My suggestion is make those 4 white "registration" squares black, put them in each corner of the paper and just print that. If the printer is not printing them right to edge of the paper then your printer is likely adding a border or margin. You'll have to google your exact printer model and how to remove margins/borders or print borderless. Some printers are not able to print right to the edge, but you'll have to do some research.

Hi Jessica, great tutorial! I am using whit glossy sticker paper and laminate it with self laminating. The issue I am finding is that so far any of the cut settings I use don't cut all the way through and I have to do 2-3 cuts for it to finally cut all the way through. I've tried the different card stocks using the dial and have tried the custom get a deeper blade sticker paper option. No luck with a 1 time run through.Wondering what cut settings you might recommend and/or would I maybe need to get deep blade? Thanks in advance for your help!
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
Hey there - glad you liked the tutorial! 👋 I don't currently laminate any of my stickers so I don't have much experience with it. However, you might need to look into what's called a 'Deep Point Blade'. Here is a link directly from Cricuts website regarding the blades & tools that go with each machine. Hope this helps! help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009432294-All-About-Cricut-Blades-and-Machine-Tools#h_15eaaae0-ce13-45ba-959c-a80bd0b91a0f

Is photoshop free and if so. Do you have tutorial on how to use it Did you create your swing in photoshop?
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
Photoshop is not free. I have an OLD version before they moved to being subscription based, so now you can never have the software, you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to use it. There is the Affinity programs, which are great as they are $50 normally but often run lots of sales. The free programs I know about are FireAlpaca (which I do have a video about here on my channel) and Inkscape, but I've not used that one before. Hope that helps some.

Hello! This hack is extremely helpful 😭 may I ask but is your print like borderless? Because I followed it down to the last point but my cut is off ;; n ;;
@JessicaLynnIllustration2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry - I don't choose borderless in my settings, but my printer is capable of printing right to the edge. You'll have to google specifics about your printer model as some printers automatically add a border.

Can someone please explain to me how this is a print then cut hack? I don't get how it's a print then cut if you're selecting it as a cut file.
@JessicaLynnIllustration Жыл бұрын
It's a print then cut hack because when you use the "print then cut" feature from inside the cricut software it creates a large black border for the machine to know where to cut your object thus wasting a lot of paper when you could fit more objects on it (if the border wasn't there). I hope that makes sense.

I’ve followed the tutorial to the letter, my cuts are 4.5 in circles. The design has a white border, but it’s cutting slightly off center. Not sure why it’s not centered. I created in Affinity Designer, I use alignment tool and I know the design is centered. Not sure if it’s my printer or what. Any advice I’d appreciated.
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry this is happening - it's so frustrating because it can be a number of things. You could do a couple recalibration tests on your Cricut. You could make sure both your DesignSpace software and Cricut Firmware are up to date by going to the menu in the upper left hand corner. It could be the printer adding a tiny border or margin when it prints - I've made several comments about checking this if you scroll through them for more info. Hope that helps some.

Can you make something thru word and upload to DS? I don't have photo shop 🤦
@JessicaLynnIllustration3 жыл бұрын
No unfortunately you can't use word because you can't make the transparent background and you can't do layers, but you are in luck! There is a free software that is very similar to Photoshop called FireAlpaca - (I did a video overview about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKXNhZl9abd2ock) Another one I have heard people use that is free, but I'm not familiar with is, Inkscape. Definitely check them out!
